Birrihappyface but how many people didn’t even see the galaxy brain because they focused on the simple solution? That’s one of the great things about this game, there are so many solutions to each problem
Only he 'galaxy brained' his way into a WORSE turn by playing as though the conveyor belts didn't exist, tying himself into a knot, taking more damage than necessary and getting way fewer kills.
39:00 You could have saved yourself by whipping the Spiderling Egg, moved the Hook Mech down and killed the Leaper, and moved the Boulder Mech up and kill the Goo attacking the building.
Just gonna drop in. Is NL still bad? Edit: 0:37 and we've got our answer Double Edit: Does he just not see the conveyor belts? If only he had some big white arrows indicating all their positions and directions. Edit is be number third: Okay as I was typing that he mentioned he didn't see a way to use the conveyor belts. EGGMAN THE CONVEYOR BELTS ARE ALREADY GONNA WORK.
his mind never registered conveyor belts before, so as soon as he clicked the mission I knew he would screw it up. And viola: The first turn he thinks about irrelevant stuff that's going to be negated by conveyor belts for several minutes.
My dude, you've done such a great job picking up things for this game: Checking to see if you can make your moves before making your first attack, trying to get those perfect island victories. Next though, I think you should take an extra minute before you start a map, and internalize what the "gimmick" is for that map. You'll probably save more time since the turns will be easier, and you won't have to agonize over reset turns as much.
NL, if you see this don't think that we don't love you. As someone who has recorded a video series before, I totally understand how easy it is to miss stuff like that when you're focused on commentary. I've done it too.
Turn 1 he could have killed all enemies, took 0 grid damage and blocked a spawn. Grappling hook mech moves down and pushes lobber into the acid. Lightning mech steps on the spawn below the leaper and the firefly, shocking them both. Boulder mech drops a boulder on the 1 hp leaper. Conveyor belts finish off the firefly and elite leaper by bumping into your lightning mech and eachother. I wouldn't have actually seen that perfect play if I was playing by myself because you took so damn long I would have started playing already.
1,000 years from now when Into the Breach is reality, commanders of the future will test the mettle of aspiring cadets by diving into the Grand NL Archives of Misplays and forcing them to come up with solutions for them in some sort of screwed up kobayashi maru style exercise. This will surely break 95% of them, but the remaining 5% will be nigh unstoppable.
OK so better turn 1: Rock directly onto the bug at the back, killing it with 3 damage. Hook tank does one damage to small mantis. Lightning mech blocks the northern of the two spawns, shocks both remaining enemies. Conveyors move both remaining enemies down one, making their attacks miss. Firefly dies to spawns, one one-health mantis bug left for next turn.
You're wrong nicholas, that play would work. Except for the fact that you can't finish off the one health leaper with the hook mech because it does 0 damage at point blank and anything other than point blank would push it into the building it is attacking. The play is actually to kill the 1 health mantis with your boulder. Kill the 3 health by pushing it into acid with your hook mech and get the lightning double kill by making your mech be what would be the boulder on the other play. Full clear, no grid damage, 1 spawn block, 2 mech damage on your 5 hp mech.
If you had whipped the Firefly, then launched the rock, then shot the Leaper, all the Vek would have died except the 1 hp Leaper who wouldn't attack a building. The Firefly and the Alpha Leaper would have died to bumping damage.
Is there a pattern to NL's games where he gets worse as he cares less about the game ? I mean he played Steel Judoka much better than this Blitzkrieg team and I am just completely losing my mind.
I think it's just one of those times when the game just doesn't click with him even if he tried his best in past runs. He is able to enjoy games he's not good at (DAE Misplay the spire?) but i can feel how he's ready to give up on this one.
At some point people expect him to get better. Like I'm not watching most Slay the Spire episodes anymore, because he STILL ends turns with usable energy left and stuff like that.
mal doran I disagree, I feel like NLs games are a time for me to decompress and just enjoy his humor and the situations he gets into. I honestly don’t understand why people get stressed and frustrated by these things, they’re more funny than anything else.
When he plays games like Life is Strange, Hitman, or Heavy Rain that's when his content is genuinely enjoyable and I can wind down--despite the occasional misplay. However when he plays games like Slay the Spire, Into the Breach, XCOM, Hearthstone and he just continues to keep making terrible plays or just misunderstand simple concepts it just gets frustrating to watch. 6:40 just drives me up a wall. He clearly sees turn order and still doesn't see the correct play. Instead of clearing the field he opts for only killing two. It's just agony and I have to watch it play out despite my frustration.
That's what Isaac or the streams like Heavy Rain are for me - very pleasant background noise with good commentary. I just can't stand watching him play these super tactical games so badly for any extended period of time.
Every time I see a new ITB episode I was like ‘ok I will watch it one last time’ Then NL gets stuck for like 5 mins when there are CONVEYERS and easily a perfect turn, I am like ‘god! This is painful! Why do I watch this again?!’
Strategy games require a specific way of thinking. I enjoy playing them, but I admit I get tunnel vision and overloaded with information sometimes that I just have to take a step back and breathe. It happens to everyone and its frustrating when one of those times you look over and over again and still miss something important. It happens. We're all human. The cringe is heavy on the heart with these strategy series, but are we any different. Maybe Ryan enjoys the series, even if he knows his bad at it. This late in the Into the Breach, ive accepted something bad's gonna happen because its Northernlion. Or you could embrace the madness of the misplays and revel in EggBois misery. Its what I do.
Ghostneedle1 “Ohhhhh noooo! someone on the internet is playing videogames differently than me! I better tell everyone how I would have solved it so they know I’m smart!”
I think if the misplays are simply due to forgetfulness then that is understandable, some people are not wired for tactical games and "Seeing the thread" as it were so I don't begrudge NL for that in the least. HOWEVER if the misplays are simply due to not caring about winning or losing then he should stop playing in my opinion, there is no shame in saying "I'm bored of this game now" especially if the investment to improve just isn't there.
well to be fair he already mentioned on twitter that he is "bored" of Into The Breach due to the overall sameyness of the game (as compared to the far more emergent gameplay of FTL). So Into The Breach is ending fairly soon. Especially because imo Ice is too OP outside a few fringe cases, they really need to nerf that.
Brother, that galaxy brain first turn wasn't even necessary. CONVEYOR BELTS MY DUDE.
Birrihappyface but how many people didn’t even see the galaxy brain because they focused on the simple solution? That’s one of the great things about this game, there are so many solutions to each problem
CONVEYOR BELTS!
Only he 'galaxy brained' his way into a WORSE turn by playing as though the conveyor belts didn't exist, tying himself into a knot, taking more damage than necessary and getting way fewer kills.
Ghostneedle1 I think you’re missing the point of what I said...
What was your point then? There may be many 'solutions' to each turn but on difficult turns there are few optimal ones.
39:00 You could have saved yourself by whipping the Spiderling Egg, moved the Hook Mech down and killed the Leaper, and moved the Boulder Mech up and kill the Goo attacking the building.
Just gonna drop in. Is NL still bad?
Edit: 0:37 and we've got our answer
Double Edit: Does he just not see the conveyor belts? If only he had some big white arrows indicating all their positions and directions.
Edit is be number third: Okay as I was typing that he mentioned he didn't see a way to use the conveyor belts. EGGMAN THE CONVEYOR BELTS ARE ALREADY GONNA WORK.
Yeah but he has such a soothing voice that it's okay
just as bad as he is at slay the spire.
It really boggles the mind, doesn't it?
Could've been more optimal
his mind never registered conveyor belts before, so as soon as he clicked the mission I knew he would screw it up. And viola: The first turn he thinks about irrelevant stuff that's going to be negated by conveyor belts for several minutes.
Conveyors!
Conveyors.
Tomasz Przybył POLAK!
I have to admit I totally oversaw the conveyors as well...the usual ITB-moment at my plays
My dude, you've done such a great job picking up things for this game: Checking to see if you can make your moves before making your first attack, trying to get those perfect island victories. I just got home from a very long day at work, and this was the wrong video to watch if I wanted to relax. It's the first turn and I'm already raging.
NL, if you see this don't think that we don't love you. As someone who has recorded a video series before, I totally understand how easy it is to miss stuff like that when you're focused on commentary. I've done it too.
42:30 tunnel vision... tank should have freed Boulder thrower
thanks NL for making all of us feel supersmart.
The titles just keep getting better and better
Thanks for the episode Mr. Egg
Turn 1 he could have killed all enemies, took 0 grid damage and blocked a spawn. Grappling hook mech moves down and pushes lobber into the acid. Honestly. I watch NL because he's NL. He could make all the misplays in the world, but at the end of the day he's still my Egg.
Cool 30:09
Just dropping by to see if NL knows how the conveyor belts work
lol nope
Turn one was bad but that reset and then letting your rock mech die for no reason on the last mission was much worse.
Keep playing I love it.
19:34 Having a minor heartattack as NL threatens to kill Rock Lord
I feel like he forgot that Hook Mech can pull stuff.
Conveyors.
holy shit this can be painful to watch sometimes
6:24 Genuinely didnt see that and a very good turn. You love to see it.
Peanut brain first turn
I love this serie but this episode was so painfull to Watch!
That gasp was hilarious.
39:45 Why not kill the webbing vek instead and then use the rock lord to kill the blob? How is sacrificing the rock lord better?
Oof, that first turn with NL not grokking conveyor belts is killing me
At 35:11 why not get the kill on the Psion?
1,000 years from now when Into the Breach is reality, commanders of the future will test the mettle of aspiring cadets by diving into the Grand NL Archives of Misplays and forcing them to come up with solutions for them in some sort of screwed up kobayashi maru style exercise. Lightning mech blocks the northern of the two spawns, shocks both remaining enemies. Conveyors move both remaining enemies down one, making their attacks miss. Firefly dies to spawns, one one-health mantis bug left for next turn.
Just electrify the two aliens, throw the rock on the spawn. Conveyor belts will kill both aliens, finish the last one with the tank. No alien remains.
I don't think the Mantis dies in that scenario because the firefly dies to the rock, but I could be wrong.
You're wrong nicholas, that play would work. THIS HURTS.
"galaxy brain"
Just found out that Northernlion has a Urban Dictionary and its amazing.
Dude conveyors have a giant arrow to tell you what they're doing. They already worked fine. No galaxy brain necessary.
Save the rock mech and kill a goo with friendly fire ? nah, just shoot at the first goo in your line of sight !
I will just add to the chorus of people singing "Conveyors"
Turns out NL is almost as bad with conveyers in ItB as he is in Factorio. Spaghetti mech to the rescue! Also, I'm revoking NL's grapple license.
7:05 Seven agonizing minutes on turn one and you still fucked it up
Rock Lord was called Geodude when he was young.
Man, NL really hates the boulder mech. He keeps killing him!!
If you had whipped the Firefly, then launched the rock, then shot the Leaper, all the Vek would have died except the 1 hp Leaper who wouldn't attack a building. The Firefly and the Alpha Leaper would have died to bumping damage.
Here’s a short preview for the next episode: m.ruclips.net/video/LCN4rDnm6Ws/видео.html
too much hair, but the modus operadi checks out.
Do you think he will really pull the whole thing off... I mean that's quite a big leap our egg
40:54
THAT'S A LOTA DAMAGE!!! *wink*
please don't end this series, I only watch your videos to get mad
So final move. Whip the web boy and grapple lord. Then use grapple lord to pull the gel over. Bam only one grid damage.
you mean killing grapple lord and then lose the game ?
This was actually hilariously bad. Thanks for the company NL
Eggy Jackson and The Lightning Lords.
Egg is hopeless
How did NL get good then got bad again?
Because the ice mechs are op as hell with bethany.
I really do find this game much more enjoyable to watch than to play. Whatever it was that redeemed FTL's infuriating RNG, ITB does not possess it.
The egg who plays games
ROFL the end of the mission 30' was so fuuun
23:30 Are you actually blind?
Is there a pattern to NL's games where he gets worse as he cares less about the game ? I mean he played Steel Judoka much better than this Blitzkrieg team and I am just completely losing my mind.

i honestly love watching NL play this game, and I’m sad that interest is fading :(
Something about this game just doesn't have as much joy as FTL did.
At some point people expect him to get better.
Like I'm not watching most Slay the Spire episodes anymore, because he STILL ends turns with usable energy left and stuff like that.

C O N V E Y O R S
NL please use your noggin

Rock Lord died again ~
Rock Lord was called Geodude when he was young.
into this bitch
For all the flak he gets, i say he solved the initial situation well.
He solved it terribly. He could have killed all enemies and blocked a spawn while only taking 2 mech damage.
Deciding not to see conveyors is not "well"
Ghostneedle1 “Ohhhhh noooo! someone on the internet is playing videogames differently than me! I better tell everyone how I would have solved it so they know I’m smart!”
I've seen NL crush this game, I know he can do better, much better
It's fun to show off a solution to a puzzle for a game I'm good at, ya got me.
Yo Egglord! Remember the environmental hazards. Stop Galaxy brain and just look at your board. First 10min and I'm already facepalming your misplays.
5 minutes in and the conveyors haven't been realized...
why
I think if the misplays are simply due to forgetfulness then that is understandable, some people are not wired for tactical games and "Seeing the thread" as it were so I don't begrudge NL for that in the least. HOWEVER if the misplays are simply due to not caring about winning or losing then he should stop playing in my opinion, there is no shame in saying "I'm bored of this game now" especially if the investment to improve just isn't there.

Why wouldn't you just the conveyor belts move the aliens off their shots? This series needs to end.
why do you bash egg that hard..He did work hard to find a solution on that hard 1st turn
It was a super easy first turn. The conveyors meant he could kill all enemies, block a spawn, take 0 grid damage and only 2 mech damage.
He worked hard to avoid a solution he was given on the first turn. Not to find one.
CAN NOT WATCH ANY MORE srry NL
