...i know just what this song is about, having been there myself. hugs to all those who understand, for obvious reasons. i went through a good long period of this.
this is the first and only female singer i have ever known that can "growl" (for lack of a better word) her voice like heavy metal guys can. and it sounds awesome.. "I WANT MY INNOCENCE... BAAAAAAAAAAACK" cool
By showing how violent her threats are, she shows that she's truly lost her innocence. I just found out about Emilie Autumn today, but I'm starting to respect both her and her music.
The looks I get from my town definitely get annoying, but the good thing is, being a hermit comes with being a Goth, so I never have the desire to leave my house. lol. And home is where creativity is manifested! :-) Glad you don't sway to the ways of your town for social acceptance. That's always refreshing to hear!
"If you can't pacify me, I'll break your bones, think I'm bluffing just try me, until your dying day, you will suffer for this I swear..." - The way she sings it, it's just like it's in my head towards what happened to me causing my post traumatic stress disorder...
acceptance and kindness is natural, you're not born with hatred and intolerance.. you're taught of those un kind things, most people tend to be taught to be hatefull when they are young.
oh this song strikes a CHORD makes me wanna find the one who ruined me brings up things long pushed under the rug I just love emilie her songs get angry for me
Thought I was over this already.. sigh.. after listening to this song I realised it's not only this one thing that happened. It's funny how you unconsciously push things to the back of your mind and years later they surface agian, heh, better to deal with it late than never I guess :)
.All music is interpreted through emotions. If youre saying certain music is better understood if you're in a particular emotive state or if it has pathos or you feel empathy with the singer, then fair enough. As for narcassism, then anyone one singing about oneslf could be that. You dont need to have a deep understanding to appreciate emotive songs.Quite often songs mean different things to different people.Im not saying she has nothing to say just that it doesnt do it for me.She does have talent!
I agree. I have been ripped apart, tread on, and buried without concern by the very thing I consider myself. A Christian. I still love God and believe in God. But when you are harmed by the people you are supposed to trust, that life turns from bright to darkness. I have always been different from my peers and it seems the only ones who cared for me were the ones I should "according to others" fear and avoid. Get outside your delusional box and realize Lauren Parnell is exactly right. (top)
I have a hearthstroke everytime I ear this song, yet I keep on listening to it. The worst in that is it keeps on happening everyday... I'd like to do something about it, but it seems we're always late on life and tragedies.
I think that's what she originally wrote it about, too. But it can mean so many things to different people. To me, it's obvious it's about sexual abuse. But even though I wasn't sexually abused, the song speaks to me, too, on my level, and it's really very therapeutic for me. It's very empowering.
yea wft is tht comment ugh stupid people and their so enclosed mind i love emilie autumn and her music helps me i am bipolar and i went thru alot of wat she did.dnt like it so b it but i love it!!! ty 4postin her amazing music
Im 44.I am a guy & wore lots of make up & some outrageous clothes.I was an original 'Goth'.I was into (still am)The Cure Siouxie Sioux,SOM,etc..I got loads of abuse & prejudice shown to me as a teen,so I actually have a pretty good idea what you may suffer.People dont like anyone who dares to be individual or different...I think it scares them.No offence taken & none meant. Be strong & NEVER be a sheep! ;)
To o8poq8o: This particular song helps me deal with wrongs done to me, and like the times I was the one blamed for a theft at work only because I had emotional problems and wasn't one of the "in" crowd. I feel a connection with so many things Emilie sings and writes. Let her music take you to an inner strength. It can take you out of psychiatric hospital, out of a violent relationship, out of jail.
From the age of 4 to about 10 years old I was sexually abused by a man. Although, I have forgotten a lot of the instances it occurred, my body will always be there to remind of what exactly occurred all those times. It makes me sick. The fear that creeps up on me each time someone touches me makes me sick. I can never forget this.
You've not heard the expression before? "I was [insert subculture] before it existed". It was meant to be tongue in cheek. Having said that, elements of emo have their roots firmly in earlier goth styles.
Ironic I come across this; I just wrote an essay about innocence. My side of the argument was you can't get your innocence back, because it's like your virginity (I didn't add that tidbit). You can come close to the real thing again- but once it's gone, it's gone for good! :3
I'm going to be doing a Gorelesque act to this soon :D I'm doin seven deadly sins and I shall use this for lust... cant wait for it! gunna be gruesome :D
I thought it was the name of a particular dress style like "Punk". Punk used to mean delinquent Vivian Westwood changed that! I wouldn't read too much into the word "emo" being short for "emotional", it's just a tag word. I'm not keen on labeling myself or others but there's no denying that you can tell the difference between a new romantic, a punk, a teddy-boy and an emo. It's part of the fun of being young and joining a tribe before you join the real-world! It's just clothes after all!
I really dont think acceptance can be taught. Its an evolving thing, though youll always get bullies & intolerant conservative types.Im all for as much individuality as possible. At school were taught to conform. Its easier to control people then throughout their adult lives.Listen to a track called 'Institutionalised' by Suicidal Tendencies. It tells a great story about being different & problems it brings!

cool
Otep Shamaya of the heavy metal band Otep and the ARG performance artist turned punk/metal singer Poppy can do it as well.
By showing how violent her threats are, she shows that she's truly lost her innocence.
I just found out about Emilie Autumn today, but I'm starting to respect both her and her music.
Brilliant sub-culture artist. Extremely talented songwriter and performer!
Hauntingly beautiful

Here Here! And to continue your point...older Goths tend towards the cheerful side of life, even if we're dressed in Victorian mourning garments!
That's al right, to each his own. :D
@renega7 thank you! i'm glad you like my videos. :)
Awww....I just realized they spelled "pacify"; "passify". Fail.

@aladar750 actually we're not quite sure what thumbs down meant. there's no pictures, only words and the written records don't really make sense.

Wingedzephyr took her videos down because (from what I heard) she wanted to be known as an Artist, and not the Girl with Emilie Autumn Videos.
Oh okay. Hi David. :]
this is just as haunting if not more haunting as voodoo by godsmack
Awesome song, plague rat 4 ever.
