  • Driving home on the A46 I spotted Guy Martins replica WW1 Tank on the back of a low-loader, so I followed it up to the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. Motorcycle racer and TV personality Guy Martin and his team spent five months hand building an exact replica of a 30-tonne First World War tank from scratch for a TV documentary. He was helped with this project by JCB, The Norfolk Tank Museum and Chasestead Ltd to build a British Mark IV tank.
    Guy and his team called their creation Deborah II, after "one" was discovered buried on the Cambrai battlefield in 1998.

    What I absolutely cannot understand: Once arrived, put the tank down on the road and let it drive the last meters.
    Someone at the museum must have a tank driving license.

    Tank looks awesome! Although i can't help but wonder why they didn't unload it in the street right outside of the museum? Seems like it would of been much easier and faster than trying to make that very difficult turn into the driveway.

    • @RadfahrerProductions
      @RadfahrerProductions 2 года назад

      The tank tracks can easily damage the asphalt, gutters or pavement slabs. They probably wanted to avoid the risk and the cost.

      30 ton on those tracks would have damaged the road and footpath. Notice when it was offloaded there were sheets of plywood laid down for it to stand on.

      Replica items are often displayed when originals are in bad conditions or placing them on displace could cause damage. Also have to ask how many 100 year old tanks are still around now as a good number of them that survived the war did not survive the scrap drives for ww2.
