If one is to analyze history analytically and honestly, we find that Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan is the root of evil which led to the event of Karbala and the killing of the grandson of the final messenger, may peace and blessings be upon them.
Austin O'Grady Marwan wasn’t the Khalifa, Muawiya was. Don’t tell me an adviser is responsible but the ruler isn’t, that is just a very flawed argument.
Nauman Shah look into who facilitated the death of Uthman, the Battle of the Camel, Siffin and Muawiya’s choice to select Yazid as caliph. Not taking away from Muawiya and Yazid’s responsibility, but typically it’s the man who has the ear of the ruler and pulls the strings out of public view that has the greatest influence on history.
Austin O'Grady Again, I believe Marwan can only instigate and provide ideas that might be harmful. But at the end of the day it is the ruler who decides and proceed with the decision making. We talk about the governance of the Khulfa and give credit to Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman or Ali rather than their advisors. Looking at what Marwan did is the micro level details. But that does not tell us the macro level picture. Macro level picture was that the ruler, Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan disliked the family of the Holy Prophet and did whatever he can in it’s capacity to make them feel weak and inferior to them. Allah knows best.
Either way Muawiya R.A was a Sahaba so on that scale we can't really say much or judge. Although I do agree with parts of what your saying. It best in the situation to perhaps stay quiet
Thank you for the accurate and careful account. Jazakum Allah khair

I disagree. If you look a little deeper, you will see it was Marwan that triggered most of the events.
