I love my MG-30. Nux first got on my radar when I tried their Mighty Plug MP-2. I'm still blown away at the guitar tones I got with that (dialed in a String Singer into a Twin with delay that is my go to). I also could get nice bass guitar tones. So then, I was getting tired of hauling a full pedalboard with Iridium to my church that now has a tiny stage. Thus, I got the MG-30. I think the strength of these units is the realistic amp modeling and even some of the effects modeling, ability to load good custom IRs, and ease of use with the UI to quickly adjust things in the moment. I know the higher end units have more effects/amps/settings and stereo amps and cabs, but honestly most of that stuff won't really be heard by an audience, so to get great tones in a unit 1/3 the price is amazing. That's not even to mention I can record into my PC with it and it's even class compliant, so I can record straight into my iPad using Zenbeats. It has options to record a dry signal too, in order to re-amp using plugins. Just so much for the price. And if it gets stolen at a gig, that's a lot less painful than a full board of pedals I accumulated over time and/or a pricey amp. I can't recommend it enough. It's not perfect, but no gear really is.
I just got a used Zoom G6 and actually thinking of returning it for this unit instead. It seems to be easier to dial in and adding scenes to a preset makes sense.
Definitely do the the Mighty Plug Pro if you can. One thing I think NUX could have done in the MG30 is add a Poly Pitch Shifter! They already have the Whammy, just give it pre-defined steps like the Drop...
THe only problem is the crackling noise that it has in high gains. I wasn`t able to get rid of it. You can easily hear it at 6:46 and 6:50. I ended up returning my unit. I also have a boss GT1 and never had any problems with noise. Mg 30 has good tones and an amazing user interface, however it also have some minor problems that must be fixed before it becomes 100% usable
One more feature this has is the parralal signal chain thing which thfe POD go doesn't have. This comes in really handy if you want huge delay/reverb/mod sounds without muffling up your Lead sounds. This is a huge deal for some people and good to see a cheap modeller giving this feature
I have this for 5 months now. I bought it for about 250€, 220 GBP. It is great for recording in your DAW, since it can push dry and wet in stereo to your computer at the same time. You can record the MG30 amp sim sound, but also add a VST to the dry channel, like Positive Grid BIAS FX2, afterwards. In this setup it has extremely low latency. The speaker out goes straight into my studio monitors. Awesome setup for the price of a soundcard.
Bought one a while back for recording, and wound up using it live and stereo thru my Katana 2 x 12 and my Origin 50 head and cab. I've had to be mindful of my tone control on the guitars, and the EQ, but the scenes I've set up give me everything I need for Fender cleans and Marshall roar. I still shake my head at the cost of something that has at least temporarily killed my GAS. I'm gonna get another one.
@@thymick5581 I go into the return and bypass all the EQ, pretty sure that it sounded better that way . Weirdly enough I'm going into the front of Marshall Origin 50 and the stereo sounds great...however I've had to do alot of EQing to make up for not having full range speakers. But I love it!! Sorry I couldnt help.
Same experience here, if you don't mind the limited amp options(and effects options TBH) and the workaround with the extra switches. This really holds up well.

I'm a huge fan of NuX, had their Delays, Modulation and the Drive core... i'm currently an Helix Lt user and planning on getting the Nux Cerberus for rehearsals and for practice. Have you ever tried one?
I have owned a Cerberus in the past, just my opinion, but it is a much better live fly rig than a practice tool. They sound really good through an amp and really high quality. But for the same price, you can get this and this is a much better practice tool with a looper, drum machine, and a lot more features.
John, hi, thanks for your videos. Your playing is really inspiring! Would like to get a piece of advice. I used to play live going direct with Line 6 M13 multieffect and ADA GSC-2 analogue guitar cab simulator for the last 7-8 years. But recently want to use smth lighter, more compact and if possible with better sound. Do you think MG-30 is a good solution? We play mostly pop and classic rock (like Rolling Stones) music. Thanks!
Yes! A (rather) oldie, but goldie! Boss' library of sounds is pretty extensive. Imho the only contender to Line 6 atm. Sure it doesn't have IR capabilities but otherwise a solid unit from a solid brand.
Hi John, do you mind sharing what guitar and the type of pickups used for this demo? I do have nux mg 30 and I am using Ibanez AZES40, the tone I got is much harsher and it breaks up easily even for a clean amp. The azes has ceramic pickup with high output about 14ohm measured using a multimeter though, thanks
What were you playing your MG30 into, front of a amp, effects return of a amp or audio interface through computer and studio monitors? If it's through monitors can you say what brand and model you are using?
PSA- be sure to go into Global and set your OUTPUT source e.g., monitors or amp. It is very easy to do and it made a night and day improvement in the tone. I was literally about to return it- it was that bad. Luckily I stumbled upon a RUclips video that showed this. Now it is very decent and playable. It's still not Fractal quality, but very decent...and I paid $200 vs. $1800 for the FM9. The NUX MG-30, like the QC and even Ampero II is a dream to edit on the unit. All Fractal modelers are a living nightmare...which is why many, including good ole JC prefer the easier to use HX Stomp. Although the tone on just about any Fractal is world-class, the UI IMHO is simply bad. It desperately needs updating. On the NUX, everything works intuitively exactly as you think it should. You can make most changes with a press or two of a rotary encoder. With Fractal, as good as it sounds, you have to go into blocks, add/remove stuff, adjust from far too many parameters, save, etc. Even if you pay for and complete a 15+ hour Cooper Carter course (excellent) on how to get the most out of the FM9, there are still too many steps to actually do it, on unit. It does not change the poor experience. The PC editor aka "FM9-Edit" is relatively much better. In fairness, Fractal is pro level gear so it is by f a r more complex, but IMHO, unnecessarily so. There is not reason the UI could not be a bit more NUX and even QC-like. The QC is complex but also easy to use. FYI- My Set-up rocks... I am using a powered Radial Engineering AB/Y pedal. It goes out to my two studio monitors- JBL 305P MkII (cheap but sounds really nice.) I don't play too loud so it works just fine. The other OUT on the NUX is going directly IN to my Boss Katana. I am not using the 4-cable method- just to the input with the amp set to CLEAN channel. It sounds great. I have done the 4-cable method and it wasn't a huge difference but more of a hassle. This set up allows me to achieve about 15 feet of Left to Right separation. I also have a RC500 Looper in the mix and it is awesome- far better than baked in loopers...and it has drums and I can save patches and separate out left and right channels for overdubs. I have the DRUMS output set to the studio monitors. In some set-ups you can push it to just one but since I am using the AB/Y, it sees both monitors are one channel. They key is not pushing drums out to any guitar amp. TIP- DRUMS sound FAR better on a Studio monitor(s) with tweeter (crisp highs for cymbals too) than they do coming out of any amp- even a good amp, drums sound muddy. They are not meant for that.
Brother... i would once again ask you.. If we ignore the no of extra footswitches that the pod go offers.. does the nux mg 30 offers better tonal depth in comparision to the pod go.. ?? Bcoz I am getting an offer to sell my pod go by someone.. in yhat case I will sell it and buy a nux mg 30
I bought the HX Effects a while a go, because for the music i play i need a lot of effects. Apart from that i like the sound of my vox ac15 so i choose the HX Effects because it has no amp moddeling features. Sadly the HX Effects makes a lot of noise while using the 4 cable method. Does anyone know if there are better options? I also heard that it could be a faulty unit and i should replace it. Any help would be really appreciated!
Do you plan on checking out Headrush products at any point? A different beast to Line6 or even this unit, but definitely very cool for the more budget stuff.
@@johnnathancordy the MX5 is what I'm using, and it's so so good. Lose one footswitch from the Gigboard and get an expression pedal, all in one little package. I'd be interested to see what tones you cook up with one!
Hi, what type of speaker / pa speaker or frfr monitor do you use? I use my boss katana mk2 50w, it is ok but still there are some problems with the sound.
I have 2 NUX pedals (was 3). The Atlantic is quite nice. It lacks MIDI wish is a shame, but not hard to dial in at all. The Optima Air is also a good pedal - evry useful. The Amp Academy though was a disappointment, and I had to sell it. Poorly organized, only a few usable amp sounds, and weak MIDI implementation.
The MG-30 looks like an excellent Modeler, and if I didn't already have and HX Stomp, I would seriously consider getting one. I love the representations of the actual gear (Effect Pedals, Amps, etc.) in the Display - Smart design. I checked Leo Gibson's massive "Latency Test" video and the MG-30 came in at a very good 2 milliseconds, though the MG-300 didn't do anywhere as well - I think it was around 11 milliseconds.
Yeh - I really like those as well - though I wonder if it'd be a bit risky IP wise for the bigger companies to do the same? (Hotone do similar in their PC Editor).

I’ve got the Cerberus which is one of my all time favorite pedals, slapped the Amp Academy at the end of it, now I have a makeshift Trident.! 😂 On THAT mainly Nux board I have the Modcore pre Cerberus (I like my modulation pre drive, distortions), the Steel Singer, Plexi Crunch , their drum looper JTC. On another board I have the Atlantic, Time Core and Horseman… there might be another one or 2… OH yea, just nabbed the Voodoo Vibe…lol Think I like NUX??? HELL YESS!✊🏾🤘🏾💯
What about the Mooer GE series? (GE150/GE200/GE250/GE300/GE300lite), would love to see a video review of any of these too. Great video like always!
Have you tried the Nux Trident yet? If so, how would you compare the tone between the two?
I've not tried one I'm afraid!
I own one and use it daily as my headphone practice rig. The drum machine and looper make this the best practice tool out there.
Such great sounds for the price less than a boutique pedal
Because I'm super spoiled by all your amazing Eric Johnson stuff from the Helix, Fractal, etc... would love to know if the MG-30 can EJ Cliffs of Dover as well 😄
Magical playing.
I'm about to get a Valeton GP-200. Watched so many clips, read so much about it. Think it will be my all in one solution for gigs. You should check it out if you haven't already and give over to our Chinese overlords. 🤣🤣🤣
your tone is great no matter what you use. all acceptable on any record.
Thanks!
I have the MG-300 which I first saw reviewed by you and Leon Todd. It's pretty good, but I would like to see more firmware support from Nux.
The terminator font alone makes it a winner
I'd love to hear your take on the GT-1!
Yes! A (rather) oldie, but goldie! Boss' library of sounds is pretty extensive. Imho the only contender to Line 6 atm. Sure it doesn't have IR capabilities but otherwise a solid unit from a solid brand.
Why modelers have Mods, Delays and Reverb after amp/cab?
Hi John, do you mind sharing what guitar and the type of pickups used for this demo? I do have nux mg 30 and I am using Ibanez AZES40, the tone I got is much harsher and it breaks up easily even for a clean amp. The azes has ceramic pickup with high output about 14ohm measured using a multimeter though, thanks
Another excellent video, thanks. :)
Have you had a chance to try the Nux Mighty Plug Pro?
It looks quite impressive for the ££s
Thanks buy in a pawnshop good pedal very good for the price. Need to know real pedal to use. Nice vid.
What were you playing your MG30 into, front of a amp, effects return of a amp or audio interface through computer and studio monitors? If it's through monitors can you say what brand and model you are using?
Love to see You do the Nux Mighty Plug Pro Please N ? Sincerely One of Your Fans Kevin
Is nux mg30 is better then boss gt1 ? Please reply 🙏
Brother... i would once again ask you..
If we ignore the no of extra footswitches that the pod go offers.. does the nux mg 30 offers better tonal depth in comparision to the pod go.. ??
Bcoz I am getting an offer to sell my pod go by someone.. in yhat case I will sell it and buy a nux mg 30
How do i get the John Mayer "I dont trust myself" tone from this processor?
I was going to say the hx stomp is the best budget pedal but then I remembered how much I spent on it when it launched.. 😅
I think the amp modeling sounds pretty good to line 6 pod go modeling
Boss GT-1 please! 😍
Was it a fuzz or an overdrive in the beginning?
Nux mg 30 or boss gt 1???
Great video! Thank you! 👍👍👍👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸
Any help would be really appreciated!
ebtech hum x will get rid of that
Do you plan on checking out Headrush products at any point? A different beast to Line6 or even this unit, but definitely very cool for the more budget stuff.
I've owned the Gigboard, nothing wrong with it at all!
@@johnnathancordy the MX5 is what I'm using, and it's so so good. Lose one footswitch from the Gigboard and get an expression pedal, all in one little package. I'd be interested to see what tones you cook up with one!
The Nux Tape Echo is incredible for $150US, shocking really
Nice! Will you ever consider testing the valeton gp200? It seems a pretty damn good unit
John, can the mg30 change parameters on different scenes just like the hx stomp? Much love from the Philippines.
Congrats on the sponsor ;)
Hi, what type of speaker / pa speaker or frfr monitor do you use? I use my boss katana mk2 50w, it is ok but still there are some problems with the sound.
Hmmm looks a lot more portable than a Helix and very intuitive. If I didn’t aleady have too much gear I’d be tempted.
What version firmware are you running?
Have you tried the mighty pro yet ?
nux amp academy as lamp …my little charm
John..how does it stand against the Headrush MX5 ?
Did you change any setting in pre eq and global eq? Im surprised how quick and easy you get this nice tone
Thoughts on how this stacks up against the Ampero One?
How can I make a feedback loop using nux 300?
I have 2 NUX pedals (was 3). The Atlantic is quite nice. It lacks MIDI wish is a shame, but not hard to dial in at all. The Optima Air is also a good pedal - evry useful. The Amp Academy though was a disappointment, and I had to sell it. Poorly organized, only a few usable amp sounds, and weak MIDI implementation.
I think so . I can’t fault my MG 30
Thanks for the letency test info…. Found it and Just about to watch!
Should i choose this over boss gt1?
Hi John. First time for your channel. At 70 years old, I don’t have a lot of time getting into this stuff but here we go. I have an older amp without effects loop and searching for something like the NUX. So I will have to run in front of the amp. I’m considering the Valeton and Boss GT1 also . Do ya have any thoughts? Appreciate it
I need to try the Boss GT1 as it wasn't really on my radar before I made this video and googled the price. Working on getting one
I'd really like to see a video specifically about the boss GT 1
From Boss gt10 to Nux mg30..... ¡I love my way!
I’ve listened to every modeler out there aside from the high enders fractal , Helix etc ..the setup i s easy to understand and the tones sound incredible, he best in this low to mid range group iIMHO and as always your playing is a huge draw in your videos
This or the Catalyst amp?
Wauu Que Genial 🙌🏻🙌🏻👍🙏
If it's just for home use, do you prefer plugins or modelers?
For me personally, it has been modelers, but more recently I've sort of opened my eyes a bit to plugins - especially if you have a decent PC/soundcard they're quite a decent solution?
@@johnnathancordy would love to hear your thoughts on this. I'm torn between getting a stomp or going the computer plugin route. I have amps I love, but want something to give me a variety of sounds I can't get w/ my amps. I guess the stomp's advantage is also that it can function as a pedalboard too?
I don't get it why Ampero is still not doing scenes
I get by with my Ampero One using the third footswitch to add in delay/drive and then using the external fs-1 to give another two options to build in.
Yes and Yesss,,,,
😃👍
Just sent you 6.32 dollars usa for Hx Stomp and just got some Helix freeze patch is that all
mighty plug pro is the best nux portable gear.
Who is PeteT ? Pete thorn?
I believe so!!
Pete Townshend?
Zoom ms 50g
I love that little thing.
Yess boss gt 1
Nope.
