    Dave, you have the best guitar repair channel on youtube. I've learned more from you than I have from people who work in guitar shops. Thanks to you, I've made a little money repairing guitars for people in my small town. I always tell them about your channel when asked how I learned. If I had the extra money, I'd send some your way for sure. Hopefully someday that will happen, as I have you to thank.

    Don't be shy about asking Dave, you've given a boatload of effort for nothing since you started on youtube- I believe you deserve some recognition for sharing your knowledge, as well as giving a huge amount of enjoyment to those of us who've found your vids. Your videos have helped to restore my confidence in working on guitars - something which had laid to one side for 10 years - and I've gone back and watched hours of your stuff. Keep it up man, would love to grab a beer one day - just get to NZ!

    Dave,
    IMHO...you should have a brick & mortar guitar/repair shop. You are a talented repairman...but your personality is your greatest asset.

    Right On Dave, I just did my Fender a few weeks ago, tweaked the spider feet with sandpaper to even out the contact points, polished the cone, vacuumed out the debris and sawdust in the sound chamber etc.
    ( I followed along with your video from 3 years ago)
    Restrung with D'Addario EJ42 Phosphor Bronze .016 -- .056 gauge, really nice change in tone, volume and tension. Thanks for all of your great repair videos and the Luke & The Apostles music as well !

    Always wanted a resonator and a few years ago found myself in my hometown for vacation and went my friends cabin in the woods. He lives there year round. Kind of a hermit life even though he works in a gold mine. 1 week in 1 week out. So anyways got there and had a blast with old friends and played music all night. He has 5 guitars hanging on the walls and had this exact guitar. An FR50 with built in pick up. Guess witch one a played with.....lol So the next day I was at my parents house and hear a knock at the door. It was Marty heading up north for the mines but....had a guitar case in his hands and gives it to me saying that he hates it but knowing that I liked it....You should of seen me changing the strings on this guitar. Had to take th plate off cause the bridge fell in. Guess what I found inside.....about a cartons worth of cigarette ash......holy crap that thing smelled like a ashtray.....but still have it and still love playing blues with it.

    I've got one of these.I replaced the bridge and cone with ones I bought from Beard guitars- cost about 60 bucks and man does it sound good. The cone shouldn't be jammed in there either, if you carefully sand around the edges of the well and "level" the spider bridge, it will fit better and sound better. I enjoy your videos.

    1. Set it back up the way you found it (strings wrong at the nut).
    2. Set it up as a leftie, as it was at some point in its history..
    3. Remove the nut and flip it around, and flip the floating bridge.. then set up correctly as a rightie..
    So what happened? Did Buddy ever get back to you? Now I'm dying to know...

      I don't know much about new guitars, I've never owned one. I have 2 70s vintage Fender acoustics and they sound beautiful. F15 and F65. Not much bottom end but a boatload of harmonics. That's good enough for me. I've played several high end gits like Taylors for example, even an old Martin from I don't know when. My old Fs hold up pretty well. They're at least 40 years old.

    • @eathanstraker2691
      @eathanstraker2691 8 лет назад

      Ernie ball slinky 10s and maybe have the guitar's tuners looked at by a luthier they could be loose bushings.

    • @MuscleDad420
      @MuscleDad420 8 лет назад +1

      +Eathan Straker likely string binding in the nut slots. common issue with LP-type guitars due to the 3x3 tuner construction.

    • @PeterWasted
      @PeterWasted 8 лет назад +1

      First of all - Watch videos on how to re-string a guitar. It may be that you don't have the strings properly fitted to the tuners. Next lubricate the nut slots. Then make sure you know how to stretch the strings. Again, plenty of videos will show you how. If it's only one string (typically G or D) then it might be binding in the nut slot. If it's lots of the strings or all of them, then it is almost certainly your method of stringing which is at fault - NOT the tuners.
