That is awesome that you are fishing with the class pet lmao 🤣 I tell my family not to get attached to the fish I keep in my aquarium..because doesn't matter how longni keep them or how much I like them..they are all suspect to be fished with. Lol 😆
Robert I want to fish the Yellow river for flatheads when I come down for the winter this fall, do you fish it a lot? Also are there sandbars on it to fish from for an overnighter? My plan is to move there permanently as soon as I talk the wife into it. I will be down by Camp Mack by Kissimmee lake all winter maybe we can hook up for some flathead fishing. You could catch the new Florida state record flathead there as well as the Florida fresh water record at the same time with a monster flathead.
The legendary, 'one that got away'. Unfortunately there wont be a fisherman amongst us that hasnt had that happen to them for whatever reason, at some point. More heartbreaking when the rod hoops over and you KNOW you have a leviathan on the end. Hit me in the feels. Tight lines.
I buy, shotgun shell flash lights, I place them in the sand below my rods to see them better, and this is a huge plus, bugs are over your pole and not on you, I love head lamps but it makes it hard to fish, fish on brotha, thanks for the knowledge Spencer,
Man feeling the rod go limp when the fish pops off after a nice run is such a sickening feeling. You'll get another one man, even bigger than the one you hooked!
@@RiverCertified nice! I know I'd be excited catching the one's you consider small. The one you caught on the bumping video released today was a fatty! Great catch
Hey Spence, one trick that I use while fishing over night is I'll set a propane latern about 30 yards away from where I'm fishing to attract most of the bugs. The hot burning propane latern will also burn/kill most of the bugs that fly into it. It'll keep most of the bugs away from you while you have your head lamp on. I'm sure you know this already because your a genius but I thought I'll mention it anyway. Hope you catch a gaint soon...
I have a dokata lithium power box, It has a bright light on it and I set it back behind me about 10 yards and it helps keep the bugs away and give me light, even when I turn my head lamp on the bugs arent nearly as bad and alot of times after a while it's almost like they go away. I also like the blue light on my whisker seeker headlamp, the bugs dont go after it and I have light to see what I'm doing all night! Thanks for another great video bro.
Biggest bait lesson I learned at the coast was putting mud minnows in my bucket with shrimp. I bought a dozen each to start my day, then I would cast net for mullet. After fishing a few shrimp I thought I had been shorted at the bait shop. Over half the shrimp were gone before I had fished 20 minutes. Then I noticed the mud minnows had gotten really fat. Lesson learned.
Get a rechargeable led headlamp that has a red light. Use the red led and you get almost no flying bugs aggravating you. It really makes a big difference. Walmart has a $23 one in sporting goods that is really good, the dogs got my first one after 3yrs, the one I use now is 4.5yrs old.
Dude great video but now how do you keep your baits cool and what were the Rod's in the corner of the bait well they looked like heaters we use at work for our chambers See you on the first. Excited l am
We definitely don't have the same bug problem here in Washington State but what I do is use an LED lantern about 20 feet behind me and have it on all the time and it seems like the mosquitoes and Moths stick to that and leave me alone when I'm trying to reel in a fatty steelhead at night 🤙
id definitely be interested in the take along bait tank. ive used a 5 gallon bucket for years but i lose alot with it.....which end up as cut bait lol. videos like this are awesome. love some of the tips and how-tos.
What is the farthest north on the Mississippi that you have caught blue cats, I live in Muscatine along the Mississippi, never hooked into one all my years, thanks man
What do you do with left over shads and such? I have seen in some of your videos that you pull fish out of ziplocks to use as cut bait. Do you freeze what is leftover? Thanks and keep up the awesome videos
Are the line counter reels really ok for bank fishing? Have Diawa Seagates on 2 rods and looking for a 3rd rod and reel set up. Which reels are you sporting?
Spencer I have a shirt that says " It's all fun and games until someone loses a flathead catfish " It sucks when they drop the bait and the bite mark shows they just missed the hook by an inch. I'm about ready to try hooking the bait through the lips and see if the hookup ratio is any better. I wonder if you hooked them in front of the dorsal fin with the barb facing forward toward the head if it would work. Hmmmm another option if they don't die.
Hey Spencer, I'm in the process of making a bait tank in my garage similar to yours and I was wondering do you put the better bait treatment in your big bait tank???
One of those Gator Mask would be great for when the light is on, so you won't have to eat bugs. Everyone needs protein, but bugs is a heck of a way of getting it.
I also use bait saver in my shad tank, shad are a lot harder to keep alive for long periods until I started dropping an ammonia in the bottom. There cheap really seem to keep my shad livelier by taking out all the ammonia, just drop the bag in and your good. You should try them in your big tank, they may help. Oh yeah you get em at Pet Smart in the aquarium section
Hopefully I get another shot at him one of these days. So far I still love them. They don't cast ad far as an abu, but thats not a deal breaker for the fishing I usually do.
@@RiverCertified What size okuma reels are you running? I'm on a fence about getting a couple of these or a couple abus. What are your thought since you have used them first hand. Thanks man!
Im sure it wouldn't be good for the videos but headlamps with a red light setting is awesome because it doesn't attract the bugs. You probably know that though
There’s pretty good water additives you can get from a pet shop/aquarium store, whatever, wherever they sell aquarium fish, freshwater fish, anyways you can get good stuff to treat bait tanks there too, just saying, even though that Better Bait is real good stuff!
@@RiverCertified - well, some of it may be, you just have to look around and read the labels good on most of that stuff, you’d probably be better off going to a pet shop or maybe wherever they deal with aquaponics? Is that what it’s called? Geez, where they deal with water plants and fish like koi, tilapia and that kind of stuff, you know?
The Okuma Avenger baitfeeder reels are pretty nice. Good price point, and the baitfeeder option is sweet. They're available from 500 to 8000 sizes too...
Btw just a question, whenever I’ve been using the floats on the leader, they keep floating the bait all the way to the surface of the water. Should I use smaller floats or what?

Haha pretty much spot on
Gotta love creek mouths. Good for walleyes too. Great bait tips and nice Flathead. Great video

What kinda cooler is that? I have my bait tank built from a junky Coleman but that one looks big, and how you have the aerator set up is sweet.

They're diy
What whisker seekers rods are you using on the big fish ive recently purchased one to try its a 7'6"M/H will that be ok on the big flatheads
I use the heavy for flatheads, but the MH will definitely get the job done!
What do you do with left over shads and such? I have seen in some of your videos that you pull fish out of ziplocks to use as cut bait. Do you freeze what is leftover?

I usually toss the leftovers in the water. Unless the bait is very fresh, it doesn't freeze well

How do you keep foam off the water? I use better bait. I fish long period of time an and it don't take long for foam to get on the water
I get some foam, but if you don't overcrowd the bait tank, it hasn't been a major issue for me.
Maybe I do overcrowd them in fear of running out lol.
