It's funny, their fundamentals are actually so terrible. That's true for pretty much everything though, the basics are refined so much and improved over the years.
the pockets were huge buckets and they didnt rattle the ball on the shelf as easy when compared to modern tournament tables, they got horrible form and technique that would not fly on 4inch tight pockets

I’m a fast shooter and always have been. I have always enjoyed watching Fats shoot. I like fast games. When I compete now it seems like everyone stares at the shot for 2minutes. Drives me bananas. I like fast and loose for both competitors. Makes the game way more fun.
those cues were tapped, as soft as a baby's whisper every motion effortless, silky, finessed finish. That stick became a wand in ' Fats' hands. Jeez sheesh. smh. There are moments that are TRULY mesmerizing , they just lock you in.
Kiddie pool, watching them trying to play snooker on a full size table would be hilarious to begin with but it would turn into boring after they couldn't finish a game in two hours.
I don't find the level of play here particularly good. The form on both of them is pretty bad --- jumping up on shots, not getting down on shots, a lot of "steering" and just overall BAD shooting. If you watch any modern players now, their form is on a much higher level and their control of the cue ball is MUCH better.
Dude he is an old man just playing some pool for the fans....!! Give me a break with this comment....!!! 23:36 Fats shoots the 5 ball and side slaps the nine with his stick, sending it towards the corner pocket. No one noticed? Fats surely did. In golf he would call it on himself, pool apparently lacks the ethics of golf and Fats just lacks ethics, and class, alltogether.
@@NotiioNz Show or glory makes no difference. What Fats "showed" by that little move, is that he is a man with a bit of talent, who can win by cheating and celebrate as if he really was better than his opponent. The fact that this was a "show" event is not a plus for Fats.

I play 9 ball. Never watched Fat's in a game. Some shots seemed suspicious, like he's not trying to win. If this was serious on his part, then maybe some of his terrible shots were nerves because it was televised.
This is the 2nd Minnesota Fats tournament I've watched and both times he got lost badly. Was Fats past his prime during this era? Its disappointing to see him miss so many shots he should easily make.
I’ve watched a LOT of pool players -both current and old timers. There is no way that these players would hold a candle to today’s pros. These matches of old were good entertainment. These guys are old and their shooting technique is non-existent. They make a TON of mistakes that modern day shooters very rarely make. They are good at making shots but they really aren’t spectacular pool players by today’s standards. And these pockets are GIGANTIC! 😂
When these guys were hustling (which is when and why the term was coined) they were unstoppable. Do you think Wayne Gretzky can still score 93 goals in an NHL season??
Usual 9 ball table where you can be inaccurate and hit a cushion down the rail and still pot the ball … semi decent 8 ball pub team players in the UK would wipe the floor with people who play 9.
The pool players back then was was just average players today,I wish I could go back in time an play them guys I be rich 🤑 lol,,,Efrin ,earl ,would gave these guys 7 an out an win ,,
Do you see the size of those pockets?! It's rough playing when your first table is a diamond. I can bank a basketball in those pockets LOL. Still can't play speed as well as either of these two classy cats though.... GG guys.
I see people talking trash about thier skills, thier age has everything to do with that I'm a week away from 66 I play in a tournament once a week I have a disability it's not as easy to perform when your older for most people.
No one can knock how these 2 are playing. They are in their 70s and still can see and shoot very well. Hats off to them
The fact that these older guys barely bridged their hands or bent over to aim and still made shots and position is miraculous
It's funny, their fundamentals are actually so terrible. That's true for pretty much everything though, the basics are refined so much and improved over the years.

I see! He is a performer above all else. It definitely matches his style of play.
Pure great piece of history
Wow these guys would be in the top 5000 in the country today. Look at how they control the cue ball and shoot so quickly
Higher than that like top 20 as they were back then. Because when the level of play is higher so are people
Anyway, great quality video for the being so old, I believe it was played in 1961
Is this late 70's? Looks like it's more or less 1980...
Great quality video considering
interestingly they playing so relax and better than recent players
12:48 Nineball? Was it a diferent stripe color at that time? Which is the year of this match? 70s?
Pockets are yuuuuge!

Am I seeing things? 23:35 secs in. It looks like Fats committed a foul with his cue hitting the 9 ball.
Buckets
Very sloppy play on both sides. I highly doubt that either one of these players could even qualify for a national event in today's game.
They were old as hell by this point. Born 1913
Kiddie pool, watching them trying to play snooker on a full size table would be hilarious to begin with but it would turn into boring after they couldn't finish a game in two hours.
Snooker is not hard. No one cares if your table is the size of the great plains. Snookerfag.

Put $10,000 on the line, with fats.... and a modern day player, in a dark smokey pool room, fats all day.
Fats wouldn’t be in the top 500 players in the United States in these days.
I beg to differ, players are so soft now and have to have silence, fats would be all up in their head :)
I think you're a idiot who is a nothing unlike Fats.
Fats was a hustler. You can't be a hustler and a world champ... think about it.

He was letting him win
The shot at 19 0 2 was ridiculous. He should have followed it. I could beat this guy fairly easy
You can beat an 80 year old, congrats.

i missed that. thanks for pointing it out.

Most school players today with alert the referee or other player immediately if they committed a foul. So don't judge every one of us
"He's got em all movin" he sure did 😂
Sorry but both these guys should retire. Not impressed. Missing way too many easy shots.
I want that ESPN jacket. I hear you can't get them in stores

Fats was so crap in reality.
Yes he was but so many people think he was some sort of pool God,he wouldn't make a half decent amateur in today's game

Yes i believe he had a stroke which is why he walks like hank hills dad
I would say yes as Fat's appears to be in his late 60's possibly 70's. He played pool all his life
Fats at this point wasn't concerned with wins he just enjoyed talking his shit

These guys were great shooters in their time, but they couldn't carry Efren Reyes water😊
The technique from both players was terrible
Fats played the psychological game with his talking

Nobody gave Mosconi a rash the way Fats did, 😆
I seriously believe me n a mate would be of a similar standard..maybe better
