I was in high school in Houston in 03 and drove up to Norman for this game. After our loss in 02, this was sweet, sweet revenge. That next Monday at school was fun 😂
The biggest weakness of this team was the Running Back. It's to bad this was a season in between Quentin Griffin and Adrian Peterson. If they had either? I don't see them loosing. Works was OK and Keaun Jones was very overrated. Neither was a quarter as good as those other 2.
What happened was OU got overconfident toward the end of the season with the media calling them the best team of all time, blah blah, etc. and meeting KState in the Big 12 Championship Game was supposed to be an easy win on the way to the National Championship Game. Meanwhile, Kansas State was on a 6-game winning streak including taking down a ranked Nebraska team on the road, which was a big deal for KState. So OU comes in all big-headed and gets gut punched by a name I'll never forget, Darren Sproles. We COULD NOT STOP HIM. So after the loss--this was the BCS era--the computers only dropped OU to #2 due to their strength of schedule, enabling them to go to the National Championship Game. This was one of the nails in the coffin for the BCS system because most people felt (including myself) that a team that just got rolled in their conference championship game shouldn't be able to contend for a national title. As much as I hate to say it, USC should've gone forward to play LSU instead of OU. Instead, we got the nod, and LSU further exposed our weaknesses. OU had several chances to punch it in the end zone but our running game was weak, and LSU held the line against us. Sad story.
I’m randomly watching this because I’ve always remembered watching this game and remembering the score. Not a fan of either team, damn I was in the 8th grade ha
I was at this game. There was an A&M fan right behind me for about the first 5 minutes. He vanished for some reason. Almost all the TDs in the 2nd and 3rd quarter were right in front of me sitting at the 40 yard line on that side. I remembered thinking Paul Thompson's release was so quick in person.
OU had more points two minutes into the second half (56) than A&M had yards for the entire game (54). Paul Thompson three for more yards passing (34) than A&M's McNeal (32) OU had more rushing TD's (5) than A&M had first downs (3). A&M had one play past their own 40, a -4yd rush from the A&M 41. Mr Macintosh and crew stayed until OU started taking a knee in the red zone.
I was also at that game and will never forget the A&M player celebrating after a tackle late in the game. Part of me thought about how ridiculous that was and part of me appreciated that he found something positive in that absolute horror show for A&M. That was such a fun year (until the end).
I think this is when Oklahoma had the number one offense and number two defense and LSU had the number two offense and number one defense under saban and beat us 21-14 in the championship
I remember plenty of whining after this game about OU running up the score. Mostly from clowns who didn't even watch the game. No scoring in the 4th quarter. OU put the breaks on. If they wanted to, they could have scored 100 on A&M.
Lol. Is this the one where Herbstiet draws a line with the telestraitor to the scoreboard for the celebrating Aggie towards the end of the 4th quarter? That was hilarious.
I'm not an Oklahoma fan but my god were they dominant in the early-mid 2000s. 4 national championship appearences, you could make the argument they should have at least beaten LSU & Florida. And boy were those early 2000s OU teams fun to watch. Great running games, dominant defenses etc Stoops did a hell of a job with making OU football relevant again. They've been outside maybe Ohio State one of the most consistent programs since the early/mid 2000s. Hopefully Venables brings these type of OU teams good running game and tough defense !!
Still have to remind myself that this game happened and I attended. It's hilarious that Franchione was coaching Bama just a year prior. Nothing like hearing some random Aggies 'whoopin' while down 40+. Also haven't seen a running clock since this game. 😂
How this team lost to KSU and LSU will always blow my mind
White got his hand injured against Baylor, probably still made a difference against LSU 5 or so weeks later. K-State is the real shocker.
They missed a great Running Back.
