Babysitter and Alias Grace sounds so good, will need to check them out 🤔☝️ Currently reading Shadow Man by Cody McFadyen and loving it soooooo much,I think you will too as you like gruesome books and this is great 👌
Love it when I find a quieter, slower paced book that totally grips me (for me in '23 this has been The Harpy, Here is the Beehive and Foe) 📚 ❤ I should push Our Wives Under the Sea to the top of my list.
JCO is one of my all-time fave writers!!!!.....the very first one was 'Them' way back in the '70s, won the National Book Award and I was hooked from then.....do not like ALL have read (she's extremely prolific), but when she's good: OH, MY!!!!.....some my faves: 'My Sister, My Love'; 'The Gravedigger's Daughter'; 'The Falls'; 'Blonde'; 'Black Water, 'and then her earlier ones: 'With Shuddering Fall'; 'A Garden of Earthly Delights'.....absolutely HATED 'Expensive People' and 'The Accursed' (her foray into Gothic.....)....but her writing is like no other and after all these years and reading MANY authors, she's still one of the VERY BEST!!! (I wrote a review of 'My Sister, My Love' on Amazon many years ago {of which am particularly proud....}, kept it and if you'd like me to email it to you, personally, let me know!!!....).....GCWiatt (she should have gotten a Pulitzer LONG AGO.....AND during a book fair in Burlington, Vermont, she signed my worn, old, ragged, copy of 'Them'!!!!....which I treasure....!....)
I've really been wanting to get to Babysitter. I do love Oates. I like that you did this earlier in the year! I keep hearing great things about Our Wives Under the Sea. Oh, Lunar Park - I must read that. I loved American Psycho so much! Less Than Zero was good, but not as good. Alias Grace sits on my shelf - it is so thick I haven't gotten to it, but did watch the series (movie??) of it and thought that was good. I didn't realize it was based on a true case.
I don't know if A History of Fear is the most well written/plotted/paced book but I loved the core idea it was trying to explore. I gave it 4 stars. Thanks for the rec.
A history of fear has an interesting audiobook, all of the different pov's have thier own voice actor which makes it easier to follow than other books i have listened to with a lot of different povs
I enjoyed History of Fear. I really want to read A Child Alone With Strangers. I just wish it wasn't so long because I have the ebook and that's not my favorite way to consume books, especially that long of one! I own all Sherlock Holmes stories but have only read Hound of the Baskervilles.
I recently read Age of Vice by Deepti Kapoor which helped me realize that I enjoy dark fiction so this video is definitely for me. I highly recommend that book but trigger warnings for Rape and Sexual Abuse, nothing was on page but it was still disturbing to read
Have you read The Witch In The Well? So far, both main characters are unlikeable for completely different reasons. One is a self-absorbed flake, and the other a jealous narcissist who justifies all her behaviour no matter how nasty she’s been “I’m sure you would do the same now that you understand…”
@@TheShadesofOrange Liking it despite (or because of) the characters. Will let you know what I think on Discord once I'm done. Kinda hoping something bad happens to both of them. I'm awful. :)
Adding A Child Alone with Strangers and Babysitter to my TBR. Thanks! 🙌🏻❤️
You do a great job and your focus on variety, or on not repeating, is appreciated. Brava.
Thanks
Ohhh The Ghost Bride sounds amazing! So many of my buzzwords. I love a horror that is more unsettling than scary!

I'll have to look that one up
Thank you for the recommendations 😊
Oh wow, Ghost Bride sounds wonderful! I love atmospheric stories. And Alias Grace is probably my favourite Atwood novel. So good!
Glad you also love Alias Grace

Liked your recommendations. Alias Grace sounds interesting. Adding to my TBR list
Hope you enjoy it!
I’m in the middle of Ghost Bride, I think you mentioned it in a TBR video. I absolutely love it.
Yes! I was so happy you were reading it
Always love your videos🩵
I found Joyce Carol Oates last year. Babysitter is on my list!!
Just aded all the books to my TBD, planning to start with Lunar Park! Thanks a lot!! Awesome Channel!
I hope you enjoy it
I love the sound of all these books. JCO and Atwood are definitely on my top authors list. Will have to put these on my TBR list.
Yes I can see JCO becoming a favourite

Thanks! Definitely helpful to know which are her best. Like you said... she has written SO much
I've only just discovered your channel (I've subscribed) and really enjoying it - and I love "dark and stabby" as a description!
Thank you

Good to know about Less than Zero. I want to try it this year before doing the Shards
@@TheShadesofOrange I hear The Shards is really good. I want to get to that too.

Yes I liked it for the psychological hold it had on me
My favourite Sherlock Holmes novella is The Sign of Four. My favourite story is The Copper Beaches, but there are so many good ones :-)
I'll have to check those ones out
I didn't know American psycho was a book. I'm going to check that out. I just finished heat 2 and jumped over to the recent jack carr book
Oh yes you must check it out!
Great recommendations like usual, I'm definitely picking up Alias Grace and Ghost Bride. Can't wait for your next recommendation videos.
Thank you for all the good recommendations 📚 (It's time for me to reread the Sherlock Holmes stories 😄).
Yes it is!
A history of fear has an interesting audiobook, all of the different pov's have thier own voice actor which makes it easier to follow than other books i have listened to with a lot of different povs
Yes the audiobook really enhanced it
Have you read Bret Easton Ellis's Shards yet??? It was published earlier this year. It's great!!!!
Still waiting on a copy! I might have to buy one
I believe that the Fracassi book is my last one of his. It’s on my ereader.
Ghost Bride seems interesting

Hopefully you read more Sherlock soon
My only problem with JCO is that I find her extremely weak on her endings....love your channel..!
Thanks. And yeah the ending of Babysitter definitely didn't blow my mind

I honestly hard a hard time reading A History of Fear. I couldn’t get into it and I ended up DNF. Really bummed 😢
It had a slower start for me and then really picked up
