The Western statues around the temple were made by Chinese artists (some of them have artist name inscribed in the back of the statue). The king Rama V ordered to make these to decorate the area for celebrating 100th year Bangkok anniversary. The statues had been there for 50 years and had been ordered to get rid of right before 150th year anniversary. Unfortunately the workers then didn't know what to do, so they buried them near the palace wall. Last year, during the tunnel in front of the palace was being constructed, these forgotten statues were found underground after being buried for 90 years.
