RUclips suddenly started recommending Dara's videos, so I've been watching as much as possible. He must have made at least 23 cents from me in the last 24 hours
I saw Dara at the Lowry Theatre, Salford. He was working his way along the front row, up until the intermission, when he looked at the rest of the row and told them he would be "picking" on them after the break. After said break, as we all returned to our seats I could see there was discussion going on among the people of the first row and they all exchanged places with each other. News of this spread through the audience and as Dara returned to the stage, we were all fit to burst with anticipation. The look of total confusion on his face as he looked down at who should have been a new victim - only to be confronted by someone he had already joked with, was priceless. The audience erupted as poor Dara realised what had happened AND that the entire audience was in on the gag. He said it was the best joke an audience had ever played on him.
This is true when he said it but it's no longer true because we have found more helium in the ground. It I'm not 100% sure on all the details but if I remember correctly we have helium for decades now.
I own every live show Dara's done on DVD, and I saw him once in 2018 so I've seen all these. Still happy to watch them in whatever clip form they get put into though as the man is an absolute genius and one of my heroes
He's brilliant, he can think so fast on his feet. I mean hebhas a degree in maths from trinity college in Dublin so he's definitely smart, but he's SO sharp.
This video probably got more laughs per minute from me than most others I've watched recently. I'd forgotten just how good Dara is (sorry about the third-person reference-I'm assuming with the general toxicity of RUclips comments he doesn't bother reading them, but if you do, Dara, hi!) at extemporised, audience-inspired material. Clever and erudite but always warm, never nasty. Hecklers stand no chance. :)
From the States: Ya left out the part where "the controversial" thing *did* in fact raise a "hoo haw". Something about building on, I think "designated green spaces" on the outskirts of London. Something like that, anyway. I don't think it "split the room". There was little support for him, if I remember right. No guarantee that I do. I watched that special a couple of yrs ago. 😁

I would imagine he can't have the banter, as he would only be speaking as an outsider, but that's a good question. I think he has, though, but maybe he felt it's inauthentic. I'm obviously not him, but I reckon he's a busy chap, although, he no longer has a week to mock!😂
In fairness, as we saw in these clips, the choice can be random as the punters themselves 'pick' the next victim. I wouldn't mind it myself, you might be a fool for a few moments, but by the end he does have you elevated for having given everyone a good laugh.

I've been watching Dara since 2006. The guy is a very underrated Stand up. Absolute Genius of comedy
