- In this video, I wanted to do a review on a product I've come to rely on around the homestead. That product of course, is the Vortex 10x25 Solo Monocular. I have a set of Binos as well but I really wanted to something compact and lightweight for a decent price I could stash in a cargo pocket or in a back and still get the job done.

Go check out my friend Steve over at Corsair Trainers. His video on Binoculars inspired this video.

HELL NO WE ALREADY KNOW HIM🤣🤣🤣
Thank goodness, someone knows how to make a quality, no non-sense, no fluff video. Just the facts, and get too ‘em. You and schooch, that makes gun videos, are the two best. Great review. Going to buy one today.
Thank you! I appreciate that.
Exactly, the other reviewers are uploading any kind of Bullsh*t and add some crazy background music 😒
The loud velcro is my favourite feature.
Thanks for the review. Tip: buy some velcro for both sides and put magnets under them - voilá!
Best idea
Nice little unit.
Yeah, it stinks you couldn't find a USA made product in your price range. I run into that as well or like the electronics industry it just isn't made in the USA. We need more stuff made in the USA.
Yup we gave up our market share and just cant get it back now
Review is good thx. But, if you want to get really best quality optic...you can forget "USA made" too, its will by prici, but best optic all around the world is European Swarovski, Leica, Zeis and some "smaller" companies, after Japan optic as a Kowa...and afther that all coming mix from around a world include USA made products. Thats not hate, thats reality. Do well man.
Only the glass is made in China, everything else is made here
First, Anthony. great review. This makes Steve , happy.
Thanks Uncle Al
I hold mine by the tips of my index and thumb, pinky slightly extended lol..
Great review my friend..at least you used it first unlike some who buy and pull it out of the box on RUclips for its virgin trial on the desk in front of them and call it a review.
Stay safe and Godspeed to you and yours.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥
The add was sad btw
That drives me insane. People will put their names on anything these days i guess.
Which ad did they play this time?
@@PalmettoPrepared yeah I've made myself a bit unpopular in some sircles for commenting stuff like " well after you take it out and put it thru some rigid field test, let us know how it holds up"... larpers can't handle reality.
It was the cancer kids ad...bless their hearts ❤😔
@@maccabeus-everydaysurvival5828 no they cant. Its quite funny when you think about it. I usually like to test something for a few months before I review it so i dont look like an idiot. Others dont care
@@PalmettoPrepared others can't help but look like a idiot because,well..thats what they are.
Thank you for a real deal scoop on things
well, the velcro issue can be easily fixed if you scream as loud as you can while opening the pouch. the deer will not be able to hear the velcro noise :)
thank you very much for the review.
🤣
I just ordered one today, just because your comment. Hope I won't be dissapointed,I'll keep u posted
So have you had a chance to see the reticle version? Better eye cups, much more solid and durable housing, but it has a reticle and some shapes for ranging. It’s got more features, but it’s much more expensive, amd I’m not so sure I want a reticle in my view all the time. Though it would be good to be able to tell how far away stuff is.
Pro tip: Just use the ☝️or 👍 of your right (or left) hand to adjust focus while holding the monocular. No need to use an extra hand, plus you get to practice your fine motor skills. Great review. I'm getting the 10x36 version myself.
Except that the focus ring is 5 times harder to turn than it should be. I have one and it's ridiculous.
I agree velcro cam cause issue's when sniping in the woods but seems like a good product overall . Thanks bro
Thanks Sonny. It is a good product. That last gripe was a reach to get 5. Trying to be as fair as possible
Thanks. Good review.
Thank you my friend
best review ever mate! congrats
Thank you!
Good review , thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Michael
Have you tried using it at night? How does he behave at night? I have a Vortex solo 8x25 and it's great to use at night.
Finally a great unbiased, straight to the point product review. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Unbiased but he don't like that it's made in China lol
@@huenchuu lol hey you're right you just made me realize that 😆
Rating the optics should be the most important. shows some bias, no?
Excellent! A very fair review with the pros and cons. Nice one, mate.
Good choice, good piece of kit
Great review and pro/com list! 🇺🇸💚
Thanks Colleen
Palmetto Prepared the 1st time I tried to watch, my mom was over and I couldn’t hear 1/2 of it, 🤣😳 but I wanted it to play all the way through,.. so that’s why the twice so far apart, lol.
@@winginitwithirishcolleen6692 excuses!!!😂 its cool. I appreciate you coming back to finish
Was deer hunting with my girlfriend for her first time today.. Got on her case because she kept opening her velcro pockets.. Really is an issue.. Excellent video
No-BS review. Clear and concise. Thank you!
Looks like a product worth buying for the price range.
he doesnt mention the optics, Rating the optics should be the most important. did you forget that?
Great Review! Bought! And subscribed! Many greetings from Germany. 🤘🏻
Thank you so much
Top quality review. Thank you very much!
good stuff. always good to have a good set of eyes or eye.
Comes in handy for sure
Useful cons - good video. Thank you.
That opening noise is oh shit for combat.
Thanks. Picked one up today.
Thanks, This was really, really helpful.
what a great channel and a great person
Yeah the 'made in China' tag is something I try to avoid.. It's just apparently manufacture is so much cheaper from the East.. or in my case North.
Very useful, thanks.
Great review PP 🤣🤣 blame Steve on that one 👍
Its definitely all his fault
Go back to Cabela's buy yourself a backpack buckle replacement kit or spend an hour removing the velcro and sewing on a button with a ponytail stretch cord loop( ask the misses for one)...I prefer the 2nd option, easy to do, simple and no more irritating velcro noise... I like Wrangler bdu style pants for summer, but I have to get rid of the velcro on the cargo pockets.
Honestly when im hunting i just dont bring the case anymore. Not that big of an issue but i wanted to say it to maybe help the next guy.
Thanks for the review!
I was at Scheel's today looking at the Solo 10x36. I understand the problem with the focusing ring. I think I'll still get it though. I didn't see the Solo 10x25 there though. Thanks for the review.
Crazy thing about thier warranty is anyone can use it if it gets sold or you leave it to your kids they will fix it. On the china thing they have full control over thier factories with thier employees running it. So atleast you know they will keep the quality control at a reasonable rate.
Thanks for mentioning that it was made in China. Not into buying things from countries that hate the United States but want our money.
I bought 2...one in my turkey vest...or hunting gear and one is always in my truck. Much easier then getting out my bino's out of the chest rig.
Yup the Velcro noise can be a problem.
Respect for you. Subscribed.
Great list. Smart to think of the velcro being noisy, so true! 🇺🇸💚
Thank you! Didnt even think about it till i did it so it had to make the list
Good review. Isn't that a lanyard? When I'm in my blind I have it around my keck of coat pocket without the case for easy access. I hear you about the velcro.
cheers bud, going to buy one.
Seems alright. For the price.
I like it. I put it side by side with the 10x36 and it didnt seem worth it for the $40 price increase.
Great review.. Thanks.
i have been looking for something like this for a while. would love a mono with night / heat vision. I need to re-watch Steve @CorsairTrainers Bino vid again and compare/contrast. Thanks for the helpful vid
Its a great budget option. Does what i need it to do. Allows me to spy on my garden from the house to see how much stuff is ripe lol. Steve just got a great NVG set up. Im gonna tell him he needs to do a proper review on it
@@PalmettoPrepared for sure! and i'll start saving my pennies.....
I have the same monocular except, it's an older 8x36 with a mil rad reticle. I like it as It's small enough to keep on my plate carrier.
One thing I wish it had is the ability to run the vortex scope caps.
You could probably get a couple pieces of magnetic tape and place them between the velcro. Just glue it to the velcro. 🤷🏻♂️
I just carry it without the case when im goin hunting now. It was too funny when i did it. I immediately was like "Dang it"
@@PalmettoPrepared I actually quite using the case for the same reason. Honestly I don't think it offers much protection outside of small bumps. I just slide it in my admin pouch. I don't even know if I got the original case anyone. 🤷🏻♂️
I’m a patrol officer in Colorado. Would this be a good product for watching houses / suspects from a distance?
Great review. I added it to my Amazon wish list
Thanks Gil
It’s a good piece of glass dude. I use the 10x25 for checking out the trail ahead or looking into valleys for places to pitch my tent. I also have the 8x36 version which is easier to use with a brighter image. I use this for chilling out by the river looking out for wildlife.
I don’t take both with me as I take which one is going to be best for what I want from it and where I am going.
Agreed. I use it mainly during turkey season to hopefully see the Tom before he sees me
I was hoping to see some actual pictures taken with it.
Your phone was also made in China, and your car electronics/camera/computer/TV. Better keep holding your nose, amigo.
Cool! :-) I have the Leica Monovid...only 4 oz / 112 g but not thesame price! :-) :-)
The scam starscope was the opening commercial.
They have been hitting a lot of my ads lately unfortunately
I have the 8x36 variety of this.reasonable quality but no lense covers.the prism appears to be uncoated too.i mainly use mine for astronomy so the focus ring isn't a problem as it's focused to infinity and I don't alter it.Most of them are made in China now so if people objected to that their choice is going to be very limited!I have an Opticron 8x25 which is,I think, made in Japan and a tiny 5x10 Zeiss Mini Quick Monocular which says it's made in Germany.
Thanks for review, yeah I try not buying china crap.
Is it good for those wearing spectacles?
GREAT JOB 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 ON MY WAY 2 BUY IT STAY FROSTY. HOWS URE WIFE N NEW BABY DAUGHTER DOING.
Thanks Keith. Theyre doin just fine. Little one is getting so big. Hopefully she will be able to come home soon
Thanks
That Velcro sound, scared me and I white flagged it already lol 😂. In other words, actually it’s a red flag for me. If I went ahead and buy it, I will buy some pouch for it a day before getting that lousy Velcro as I use it solely for deer hunting.
How is the zoom quality like? What is the maximum range this thing can see. Im considering buying this one (my first monocular) and would love to know how far i can see. Great video too, straight to the point and indeed no b.s.
AFAIK it has no zoom. It's just a fixed setting of 10x magnification. Basically a normal binocular cut in half.
Thanks for the review. I don’t own anything vortex yet. Good to know your opinion.
Its a good company. The warranty is my favorite part
Dig it but how is the clarity? Is it good in lower light situations like at dawn or dusk?
Clarity is great during sunny or cloudy conditions. Where I wish it had some improvement would be in the low light when deer start moving about 15 mins before sundown. It can't beat your natural eye or a $1k Leupold
it stinks. that is why it cost $20 direct without the middlemen.
Very good review, good and cheap, but made in China.
Thanks, and yup unfortunately. But lets be honest here, the quality aint bad for chinese. They have definitely upped their game and the warranty covers you just in case it fails
Would you recommend Bushnell legend ultra or vortex solo r/t?..
how about clarity at 100-150 yards wildlife birds?
full sun? great. middle of the day is your friend with cheap optics.
Great review!! I had one on order from Amazon when I watched your video. When I got it I noticed the build quality and clarity were very good. The whole idea for me to buy this was for deer hunting. I wanted something compact and light to 'ease up" to my eye with one hand. As you said, the problem is you have to use two hands to use the focus ring. The ring is tight and hard to turn as well as the location is not good. I understand you do not want it too loose but it is a bit much. Kinda defeats the purpose of being able to use it with one hand. My compact Nikon "Trail Blazer" binoculars allow you to hold and focus with one hand due to the location and ease of turning the focus wheel. The eye relief/view is much quicker as well. The Trail Blazer also folds in and is very compact. It weighs twice as much as the Solo but still fits into the chest pocket of my shirt. I put the strap around my neck and the weight is not an issue. It works well for my needs. The Solo will be going back today.
Yep. That ring drove me nuts for about a year. After plenty of use it does lighten up considerably. I use it primarily for turkey season. So much easier now that it's "broken in" but that ring really almost was a deal breaker
No Chinese. But thanks for your time.
AN OPINION,WITHOUT EVER SHOWING WHAT IT CAN DO IS JUST THAT AN OPNION, NOTHING BUT PERSONEL CLAIMS.
How would it work for viewing targets at the rifle range at 50 yards?
Depends on what you're shooting. 22lr nope. But 30 caliber or better? Possibly. Would be better if you had reactive targets. It's only a 10x magnification. Works really well for archery when trying to dial in your new sights
No reason you couldn't replace the velcro with a magnet yourself pretty easy to do I know you even you could figure it out lol
Oh i know but thats not the point. It would of been nice to come that way. Like i said it was a small gripe but it bit me once
@@PalmettoPrepared lol I know 🤣 just playing devils advocate
@@ThecrazyScotsman i just dont carry it with the case hunting anymore lol.
Great review, Im a bowhunter and am bouncing between this and the Vortex vanquish Binos.
You did not show how good the unit was working
Camera wouldn't pick up the focal point. Not going to show a substandard shot that would ultimately hurt the point I was making. It is as clear and everything you would expect from vortex glass
How does it compare with the 10x36 version?
How much of a difference does the wider lens do?
8x36 is always better than 10x25. The picture shakes less, it is clearer... even at dusk.
@@doghunter4097 wdym clearer?
i get It shakes less because it has less magnification, but isnt more magnification good on a monocular?
@@sbura_ no. 8x magnification is ideal in most situations. 10x or 12x
reduces stability and darkens the image. 7x is ideal for hunters in European forests.
Shoot I bought this one not knowing they have better ones
HI there, just to let you know your into part of the video is scratched, lt has been in the last few videos.
Its okay, its part of the design of it. Tried to be edgy and cool
HES SCRATCH AND THEN SOME🤣🤣🤣🤣 WE STILL LOVE PP
How does it work with glasses?
Not well unfortunately
What about the quality of the product?
its worth 20, not 80. look for the $20 version
How about the optics? Lol Kind of the point of the product.
how is the night vision ?
dusk vision stinks. so that is a total no.
Subbed. Will by this. $79 cdn up here.
👍
Good review, but your correct , again China
How powerful is 10 × 25?
10x magnification
@@PalmettoPrepared and the 25?
@@PalmettoPrepared 10x sounds unreal, did you compare it with other products?
Iphone is made in china too bro 😂
Frank from American pickers?
Good review. You should just get your meat at the grocery store?
I do... and then i get it at the other grocery store... the woods
Palmetto Prepared there are like bugs and stuff in the woods. That’s like so gross!
Tastes like chicken... and dirt
When your heading out you can wear it around the neck to avoid velcro scaring the game 👍
I am sorry but US products are overrated :(
check finnish, swedish or any scandinavian products. Much more stable and cheaper and sturdier than US priducts. Most of US products are a joke.
Your video is very quality thou. keep up the good work
first?
Yup you beat Al by a minute
EAT A FLIPPING TREE TYLER🤣🤣🤣🤣
You should come up with better pros, those are pretty generic pros. Doesn't really tell you much about whats good about the product itself. Don't need demo on how you hold it...........
Trying to see a work Buddy you showed me everything but that much my opinion it's like assholes everybody got one
iPhones are made in China. It should not matter where things are made. Just the quality. Nice review though.
It matters, you should buy local when possible. And Americans make high quality stuff whereas some countries have lesser reputations, usually for a reason.
@@nicko9046 Hi. I understand patriotism and you clearly are patriotic (assuming you are American). But various cultures/ peoples excel in different things. The best is not necessarily American. Having said that, I buy, at great premium, many an American product which I am happy to own and use. Good for you that you want to support your country as much as possible. That is commendable. But one must keep an open mind. Stay safe and well.
@@nicko9046 I agree. Although, I am not necessarily against buying imports from "friendly" countries that don't want to kill us or take over the world.
I really loved your review of this product and I am considering this one or this one "Nocs Provisions Zoom Tube 8x32 Monocular Telescope". Do you know anything about the zoomtube? I'm almost sold on the vortex but from what I've read, an 8x is easier to view your subject due it being hard to hold it still at 10x. Any input would be appreciated
I would want to support made in america products but isn't that usually slave labor because only prisoners work for low enough that companies produce through them
$80 for a budget???
yeah you don't know what that means lol
Budget means $20-$30 my guy!
It did in 2008. With inflation the way it is $100 is the new $20
This stuff MADE IN CHINA?
A review without showing the actual performance. Not helpful.
Camera wouldn't pick up the focal point. Figured it would hurt more than help trying to show a substandard shot but it is as clear as all vortex glass
I went with the Maven CM1. Wish I could try them all.
150 bucks Australian
