The upcoming LF-1 is what the GS is going to become. Lexus always intended the GS to be a sporting flagship that sat next to the LS, rather than slightly below it in the Lexus lineup. Transforming the GS into a sport wagon gives it its own identity. Should be unveiled in 2020 as a 2021 model!
My opinion is based on what they are saying in the dealership. Adding AWD to the Es just doesn’t cut it. Two different cars and it’s a shame the GS sales are low. It’s such a great car. Perhaps if they lowered the price.

Is it worth the upgrade from the GS? I'd say... probably not, although it is improved from the previous generation. The Lexus ES still is great in the premium mid-size sedan segment that's smooth, comfortable, luxurious, easy-to-live with, and now looks great and has pizzazz. Although it's still not rivaling the 5-Series, A6, so on and so forth and rivals the LaCrosse and MKZ, the new ES is overall a guilty pleasure to me, and it's great on what it does in its own world, which no wonder is a big money-maker for Lexus. While I know many people might still call it the gussied-up Camry that it started it's life as, the ES actually shares the same platform with the flagship full-size Avalon sedan now (the new Avalon by the way is almost a masterpiece to me), since the previous generation. Hoping that Lexus keeps the GS alive however if they really want to show thay they can change their sedan game even more seriously so.... nonetheless, I had good times with the new ES, and I'm curious to see how it holds up.
@Anton Zuykov I know. I'm just interpreting this in a way whether people might consider this to be the GS' successor, even with rumours stating that it might face the chopping block soon.
Test drove all 3. BMW was sh*t. Mercedes was super comfy and luxury but more expensive. Lexus was best all around, and best value as well... Not to mention best depreciation/reliability/lowest cost of ownership.
Access. While what we do is telling stories about cars, it is still very much a business. As such, timely access to cars is a HUGE factor. Get a car too late, the cost of production stays the same but the ROI drops drastically. OEMs pick and choose who they want to do business with, which we have to respect. However, we also get to pick and choose who we do business with based on a number of factors including the cars they produce, ROI, interest level to viewers which is all balanced against timely access. As a small, *independent* media company, all our films have to stand on their own to support our business. As such, if an OEM like Honda chooses not to make us a priority, we may not like it but we still have to control our business and move forward. Key rule in leadership: It's not what you preach - it's what you tolerate. As such, we prioritize those who chose to prioritize us.
Love the music, the car? Not so much. Answering Kumo's question is kind of a though one, the 3rd generation G80 is imminent, it could bow at NYIAS. Plus, there's the upcoming Cadillac CT5, but I don't have much confidence in GM lately.
I want wireless CarPlay in my next car but don't want to have to buy a BMW :) It's taken about 4 years for nearly all OEMs to get the wired version and it will probably be the same again for wireless. Wireless CarPlay needs a Wifi chip which aren't that common in cars so until they are as common as USB it's going to be a while. I believe Harman makes most of the electronics for the OEM systems and they are starting to roll out a wireless version apparently. Pioneer have an aftermarket unit. Mercedes MBUX supposedly has it but no video evidence in the wild has yet emerged …. although I heard a rumour it was in the newest Sprinter vans already ! The other thing I am after as you know is turn directions on the instrument cluster when navigating with CarPlay maps. Again announced by Apple about three years ago. Not sure why no one does it yet, there must be some technical complication. Even Alpine that do replacement OEM units for VW, Merc etc that use TomTom nav only show directions for TomTom and not CarPlay which I find really strange as they are painting many things to the instrument cluster.
@MotoManTv with the current automotive climate switching towards crossover suv/cuv do you think that we would see more sporty or roomy products in this segment? If not what would be the strategy to attract some of the buyers back? #AskMotoManTV.
CHRIS! You always have the best questions . . . This is a particularly good one. Added to my list and and yes, #AskMotoManTV is coming back in Season 10 . . . with a twist!
Nice review! Sorry, off-list, I’d choose the new S60 T6 R-Design w/ Polestar tune (330 HP - 325 LB/FT). It has enough rear legroom and trunk cargo to compete. Well actually, every aspect of the Volvo is better except maybe the engine sound. Giant Lexus “spindle” grill is still laughable.
Looks are subjective, fact is Lexus has sold millions of cars with that grill... Quite frankly the S60 is generally considered an ugly car. Hence why they hardly sell them.
I can't lie, the swanky looking G80 with more power than all of them and loaded with features would be hard to pass up with all things equal. (sticker price, lease terms) However if I wanted to keep one of them longer than 3-4 years it would have to be the Lexus ES wich is not likely to break after the warranty ends and hold more of it's value when the time comes to sell or trade in. Having said that, all the same applies to the GS 350 F Sport yet it's better to drive and looks better to my eyes. The downside of the GS is the rear seat room, but it's not that bad really, and I'd never choose a car with passengers as priority. (Yes, I'm a selfish bastard, gulity as charged😁)
mgmcd1 except the ES is no longer built in Japan. I don’t trust anything built at the TMMK plant. I got nothing but poorly built Toyotas. It got to a point that Akio Toyoda had to make a visit and tell employees to step up, or they will close the plant down.
@@mgmcd1 That's not a new one. The new ones are built in Kentucky. Maybe say, 10 percent are built in Japan. My family has owned Toyotas for 50 years, and 30 of mine. I have a great experience with them. Also I drive them 30k miles a year and get to know their weakness. Toyotas tend to be mechanically from the engine point, fine, but for some reason, their American plants assemble the body and interior pieces very sloppy in the mid 2000s year period. For Akio Toyoda to give them (TMMK) an ultimatum, means I wasn't alone in noticing it. Also, 4 years in, is still considered new. I still recommend Toyotas, and are my favorite manufacturer, but Im not blind to their current growing pains of change within the company during recent years. With the Koreans getting better each day, it woke Toyota up to go back to the old quality days. I will agree that the ES is a smooth car.
Carlos Guevara agreed. I have owned maybe a dozen in the last 20 years, starting with an 87 Corolla around 2000. I haven’t bought anything else. I’ve had a few TSBs, even on Japanese assembled cars, but dodged the 2007 Camry hybrid ring issue by selling early.
They better hope so. But as an owner of the New Gs F Sport. Comparing the new ES to the GSFSPORT is like comparing apples to oranges. I was able to have the Es for one week while I had a service issue with my sunroof. Well I couldn’t wait to get my car back. The Front wheel generics are horrible. In my opinion the back felt light and I wanted to put metal barbell weights in the trunk . Like I did in my 78 coupe deville. The head room is considerably lower. Dashboard is outright ugly. If they end the Gs. I will find another nice car. This Es is certainly not for me. Ugh
It is all up to the person's preference. I do not need a performance car, so I am enjoying my ES 350 F-sport. I do not live in north so I don't need AWD. On rainy days, FWD is better than RWD if the car does not have AWD. GS is more expensive, and requires premium gas. ES does not requires premium, which I did not know until after I purchased it but it is a money saver. Like you mention, GS and ES are made for different purposes, have different targets. You cannot compare them. I considered BMW and Audi before purchasing ES but never GS because GS does not fit my needs or desire. I am not criticizing GS, though, like you are doing so on ES. I am just saying everyone has different views, needs, budget, opinions, and they are all good.
Nice car (not sure I like the Samurai helmet looking instrument cluster or little cheap silver buttons from a 2012 Camry, I don't get it. If Lexus gets rid of GS, not sure I will be a fan anymore. I just traded in my 2010 LS460 (which I loved) for a GS 350 F-Sport, both rear wheel drive. GS has blown me away. LS was a little bloated, like driving a small apartment, while GS is more nimble, sporting driving experience, and perfect interior. I look for reasons to drive it but #corona is raining on my parade. We will all have to get used to living in a world with no rear wheel drive or combustion engines in a few years anyway so I am keeping my GS until the wheel come off which will probably be a very long time.

Test drove all 3. BMW was sh*t. Mercedes was super comfy and luxury but more expensive.
Lexus was best all around, and best value as well... Not to mention best depreciation/reliability/lowest cost of ownership.
Go for GS.
It's a no brainer I would choose the g80 sport
A Hyundai?
@@forex2easy714 Yes I would choose a Hyundai over a Toyota
we need another V6Hybrid and not these overstressed 4cyl !!!
what video did he meet suga-san?
Awesome review again. But why Toyota review and not Honda?
The Es F Sport or TRD Camery?
Camery is smaller car.
Camrys are for girls. Get a mans car (ES) 😎
Great video!
The triple beam headlights cost that much because it looks bad without them
We were looking for a GS until we discovered it needed super unleaded
Love the music, the car? Not so much.
Answering Kumo's question is kind of a though one, the 3rd generation G80 is imminent, it could bow at NYIAS. Plus, there's the upcoming Cadillac CT5, but I don't have much confidence in GM lately.
1. An AWD away from nirvana
2. Totally disagree. Looks great, and Lexus cool, in white or graphite with red trim.
Color does not make THIS car
Love the backwards clip at 0:45
:)
Wow...look at that color!
Is that a Ford Contour on the lift back there?
Nope . . . An old school Honda Accord. It's the car visitors use when they are in town. I need to cover her up:)
Oh man. That’s cool. Low miles?
6 signature and 15k in change.
Like your thought process . . .
Typical millennial, only concerned with technology and music 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Nick Caesar if only you knew how wrong you are 🤣
wow, that's a great video!
Morning Chris! Answered your question here: ruclips.net/video/l-TtkPSZafw/видео.html
Yes. I’ll take the fancy Toyota any day.
I'll keep my 98 gs 400 🙂
Sicily Live 99 gs 335K miles..... and 2020 ES😎
My 2019 ES hybrid gets 41mpg. But I’m old, and I love my stereo. Also risk averse, so only Japanese cars for me. Did I mention I’m also boring? 🤓
mgmcd1 except the ES is no longer built in Japan. I don’t trust anything built at the TMMK plant. I got nothing but poorly built Toyotas. It got to a point that Akio Toyoda had to make a visit and tell employees to step up, or they will close the plant down.
Carlos Guevara my ES has a J VIN, so was built in Japan. I traded a 4K VIN Avalon hybrid on it that I had no problem with for 5 years.
I would choose the Lexus!!!
😂😂 09:30 this is what some people say about Es in Saudi Arabia.
Bring back the GS
I’ve heard that wireless CarPlay sucks
Nope, it's pretty terrific. I have an Alpine ILX-107 in my 06 LS430 and it's almost flawless.
You've heard wrong. Works like a charm in every BMW I have tested.
A true F Sport is RWD and not FWD!
RX has an F Sport version. So does NX.
John Green it’s for people who can’t drive and need fwd because they could never control oversteer
Hmmm.... this car or camry XSE
This car, trust me. Camrys are for girls
Or.... the new larger IS is replacing the GS.
Unless Lexus gets it's shit together, Genesis is now the sensible choice.
GS> ES. ES is just a Camry with Lexus touch
Starting about 26:50 This shows VW's new MIB 3 Infotainment ... which they publicly say has wireless CarPlay .... It should be in a GT3 soon then :) .... ruclips.net/video/fPKvw6eeKK4/видео.html
What's up with the Shrek-like knobs above the cluster dashboard? Looks off.
Yea, I didn't care for the interior. I know it's subjective, but it didn't appeal to me.
Did he just say *near* luxury?
So people walk backwards now in California? Crazy...
Always have . . . they just have been hiding until I got here:)
Hard to compare this to the Germans on the basis of price, since the Lexus will cost so much less to own.
ES never intended to be a GS which has RWD
Agreed
F Sport on Lexuses is utter nonsense - but they look cool and sell well!
Complete speculation that there will be no future GS. In your reviews if you don't know the facts don't say it!
Take your advice.
so you live where i used to live. Drove that freeway 2x rimes a day. Orange county. Why you still there. I thought everybody with brain already moved.
