- Coffee County, Tennessee, near the town of Manchester gives us today's story. Some say the ghost of a witch lurks in a local cemetery. Others say its the ghost of the accuser, guilt keeping them from passing on. Either way, the legend of Sadie Baker is a sad yet interesting tale that needs exploring.

An awesome video for sure! Its a strange yet interesting story. Ive been to her grave and i gitta admit...its got a feeling of sadness...and lot of eeriness! God bless and have a good'n!
Very strange indeed. You've been there? Sweet. I'd love to visit it the next time I'm in that area and pay my respects.
Jared, where is the grave at in Manchester, I'd like to visit it, the next time I'm down that way to visit family.
Truly sad story. The town convicted her of being a witch yet they themselves did the evil stuff.
exactly. I'm glad that came across in the story. This has got to be one of the saddest I've researched so far.
Women have never had it easy
In the patriarchy that is...
Sad truth
G
That poor girl.
My heart absolutely broke when she stood up and yelled "I am Sadie Baker" in defiance of what the horrible townspeople were doing and just to be remembered.
Such a sad story.
Agreed. This one sat heavy with me.
I am always truly and deeply astounded at how vile humans can act!!!
Humans are more scary than any ghost or monster out there.
@@DixieAfterDark So True!!!
While I’m from Columbus Ga, my father in law is from Manchester and has given us about 100 acres which sits right on the trail of tears. There’s even the reminders of an Native American camp on the property
I love Southern Gothic. my grandmother use to tell me a lot of crazy stories about when she was a girl . WE would sit on the porch and a bottle tree would be in her yard.
Good old bottle trees. I love those things. I don't see them around my parts as much as I used to. I'm glad you enjoy my stories and they bring you some fond memories.
When people are a threat to them, people become savage. when a womans beauty is powerful, people will label them as a witch
I'm afraid you're probably right in that, especially in that timeframe. Love your user name, by the way. I've got two Louisiana stories lined up in a couple weeks.
By all means. Love the stories especially from the deep south. Too bad my grandmother is dead. she had a bunch of them,@@DixieAfterDark
@@creolelady182 stories from out elders are the best.
So sad for Sadie , may she find peace xx
Amen. I feel the same way.
Wow, I'm from Manchester, TN and this is the first I've heard of this legend. The only legends I've heard of in Coffee County are the Giant's Cave near Old Stone Fort State Park and the ghosts of the Ovocca orphanage near Tullahoma, TN.
Hmm, I'm going to have to look those up. They are new to me.
I’m with you. Manchester, Summittville, Hillsboro and Tullahoma. We seemed to be devoid of paranormal activity. Now Bellbuckel…
@@melindamillion1949Allegedly, the old quarry in the Summitville hill is haunted or inhabited by something. I think its more of a local boogeyman tale for the kiddoes though.
@@pl1guru a story invented by Mrs Sain to keep us kids (my brothers ) away from it. lol.
@@melindamillion1949 That sounds about right.
An incredibly sad story, beautifully told. The accompanying music is very moving too xx
Thank you so much.
That's so hideous. What's really sad is we have reverted right back to this idiocy today.
I'm afraid you're right. It seems to go through history in waves.
I live in Manchester tn, every year when the time rolls around Sadie's story comes back like it just happened. It's all anyone talks about it.
Thank you for sharing that.
Realized I had missed this one too. 🙈🙈🙈so so sad. I always feel so sorry for the women who were wrongly accused basically cause they were just slightly different. So heartbreaking. This brought a tear to my eye. ❤ So well done though. 🤗🤗 Fantastic video.
I'm so glad you liked it, and I'm happy that my belief that she was innocent conveys through the narration as well. This story weighs heavy on me, even now.
@@DixieAfterDark yes , you did a fantastic job. I think she would be so happy with your portrayal 🤗🤗🤗
As a proud Tennessean, I love hearing our stories and legends told to the rest of the country!
We DO have the most beautiful women in the country! There ain’t nothing like a good raised Southern Belle!
Amen to that!
This is truly heartbreaking. Thanks for sharing.
My saddest one I've researched so far. This one will stick with me for a long time.
Jealousy is a horrible thing - I doubt God welcomed any of those involved when they died.
You're probably right
Silly uninformed woman, you'll soon see when you pass. Everyone is equal dead or alive
Murder is murder. God sees that.
I really am glad to have found your content. I enjoy what you bring to this genre. I had a lady friend many years ago tell me this tale but honestly did not keep my interest that way you do in your presentation. People who are often the accusers back in the day did things considered worse, but they never got caught. Blessings to you my friend. Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks for checking it out. I'm humbled that my work is being enjoyed. Stay blessed, and I look forward to more work from you as well.
Awwww what a sad story. Two beautiful ladies ruined due to greed & jealousy. I just recently came across your channel and love your content! I’m subscribing! Keep up the good work! Blessings always! ❤️✝️

Thanks a ton. Loving your content as well.
@@DixieAfterDark thank you !😊
This was so sad...😢 But the telling was done so very well!!!❤❤❤
Thank you.
Dang. This is so sad and tragic. Sadie never did anything to anyone. She never even spoke except once. All she did was mind her own business and kept to herself. Her only crime was her great beauty. Because everyone was jealous of it. Just goes to show you. That everyone around her was the problem. Sadie was innocent and envied and hated just because she was so beautiful. People back in that day and time were too obsessed with appearance and looks and only cared about coupling up with the opposite sex. Blehhh. People back then were disgusting. No being individuals and loving yourself and being independant and no looking inward of others and themselves rather than looking outward. And always branding people witches who were different or had mental disabilities or were misfits. Yeah people were stupid and disgusting back then overall in my view. Im so glad i didnt live back then. I couldnt have stood the way people were. They were so cruel to that poor girl. Just because she was beautiful. How mean. And she never said a word hardly to anyone. She couldnt help how she looked. They drug her off the streets wanting to help her which she never asked for....then condemned her because she was beautiful. How cruel. The way they all acted about her. Just disgusting. They should have all been happy for her. She was forced into an early grave just because of everyones jealousy and vanity and ignorance of witches.
I couldn't agree more. That time frame had to be awful to live through.
What an amazing and moving tale. I absolutely loved it. 💙
Thank you so much!
HEY Buddy!!! So good to see a new episode.
I could listen to you for hours. You have such great inflection.
You also open window to the past and we, as observers, get a chance to live, by proxy, the past.
Well Done my friend. Cheers Mate!!! 🍺🍻🏳🌈
I love the view you have on things. I'm glad I'm able to offer you and others some enjoyment from these stories.
I’m loving the stories. ❤keep it up. Your following will blossom.
Thank you so much!
How incredibly heartbreaking for them both. One lost her life and the other lost her mind.
You’ve quickly become one of my favorite story tellers. I shared your page with my kids. They’re strewn across the southeast and love a good history lesson as much as I do. 🙏😊
Aw, thank you so much! I'm glad you are enjoying these legends.
Very interesting story, thank you for sharing.
thank for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for telling such a heartbreaking tragedy so wonderfully. Poor girl 😢 May she fine peace in her afterlife.
People are so cruel.
This one still sits heavy with me.
I'm still stuck on the part of they thought hanging was to barbaric so they went with burying her alive WTF. I did go do a bit of digging and found a Sadie Baker who lived in Tennessee who was married and died at the age of 43 now I don't know if it's the same person or not but it is kind of coincidental hopefully this story is just an urban legend.
Yeah dixie after dark. Love your stories. Keep on going.!!!! GREETINGS FROM IRELAND 🇮🇪
😊😊😊❤❤
Welcome, Ireland. Thanks for the comment. I absolutely LOVE your regions folklore as well.
I've heard several Southern stories with this plot. Interesting! Thanks, my Southern brother!
You bet
Having grown up in Coffee County I must say I have never ever heard this. We moved there in the late 60’s. My son still lives there as do my brothers. Do you have sources for this story?
I would also like sources for this
Hard sources were hard to find. This one seems to be more legend. I first stumbled across this one on a cheesy, top 10 type video. It was mentioned in passing for like 30 seconds. I did some digging and found several blogs with yhe legends, so I pieced this together from a lot of those. Historically though, there hasn't been much at all.

@@DixieAfterDark the video is well made. Better than most who make these. As a member of the family of Witches who lived there I just find it odd we never knew about it. My granddaughter is following in my footsteps as a historian. I’ll asked her to do some digging.
@melindamillion1949 thank you for the kind words. Good luck with the research. I'd love to know what you find.
So glad I found your channel
I'm glad you enjoy it. Thanks for letting me know.
Love these stories ❤
Glad you like them!
What a sad story! My grandmother spoke of to us boys about a witch in the Baker family , I am pretty sure she told us the name but I cant remember what it was. That was some 50 years ago.... hmmm Im going to talk to my brothers maybe they remember! Thank you for a great story and for me to solve a mystery!
Best of luck! Glad you enjoyed it.
Another great story but a said one. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Great episode thanks

That was an amazing video 📹 😊keep them coming 👏
Thank you so much.
Such a tragic story. That insecure, envious mother was the real witch of the tale.
Absolutely
Amazing what guilt will do to the mind - it can drive one to madness. A sad lesson that extreme beauty has it’s own curse.
Very well said.
How very sad this tale was! I was so disgusted with the whole town. I don't understand why they couldn't find Olivia.
If the legend is all true and considering how they treated Sadie, I doubt they put much effort into finding Olivia.
Goose bumps😢😮😊
Really like this channel, loved the story I heard yesterday, tried this one today, loved it too, so I subscribed. Great narration, great content!

Yes it is.

Well that was interesting History albeit a sorrowful one kinda Repulsive to swallow...humanity in its uglyness, poor little begger better off remaining one , Olivia's heart was full of Grace though...then associating her Color hair with her Guilt maybe...we are so Complex
I finished this video a couple months ago and its sat heavy with me ever since. I'm sure it will stay with me for a long, long time.
So sad, how could they do that. That poor child. I hope they paid for this.
You and me both.

Makes me sad for the girl. Selfishness took the girl's life. May God bless her soul
Amen.
Can you do The Legend of The Bell Witch next?
not sure about next, but its definitely on my list. I already have some completed and scheduled for release over the next few weeks, but the Bell Witch is one on my radar.
I have really enjoyed your stories here. I hope that you continue to add more.
Thank you so much!!!
So sad for sadie. I hope she is resting in peace ✌ terrible wjay they did to her by murdering her in cold blood out of jealousy and ingorance. My theory is that she was deaf.!!!.Shame on them if im ✅😮😮
That seems to be the consensus here. I agree, so sad.
I believe she was in a shocked state. You can be so scared at something that you can’t speak anymore. She was able to get her voice back when they were taking her to her death out of desperation. Maybe I’ve seen too many old cowboy shows that showcase this 😅. Maybe her family was attacked/murdered and she saw it. It left her alone and begging on the street.
I've never been to her grave, but I live in coffee co , Manchester TN,but it's a sad story
Very sad. This story still hangs with me.
My Momma is a Shelton from Manchester, Coffee, Tennessee. I've never heard this or an Olivia Shelton.
Really?
I went to a church service last and we drove by the cemetery 🪦
Wow!!!
Them folks got a funny idea of what "humane" means...
Exactly
Have you covered the witch of Yazoo MS that story is good.
I have not yet, but she's been on my list. I'm trying to dig up as much historical reference points as I can. Thanks for the suggestions. That may just move it up higher on my list. I need some good Mississippi stories to cover. Thanks again.

We ALL have an option when we wake up. Do we step on the ground with love, or with fear. With fear comes all the lower vibrational aspects of humans, all of the deadly sins and much more, which stem from fear. Start your day with LOVE, gratitude and gratefulness...and day after day will create peace and inner strength.

Damn, poor Sadie Baker. What else can you even say.
I know, right? This one sits with me heavy.
@@DixieAfterDark yeah, it had me in near tears to be honest. I mean she could have juat been mute. I love the auperstitious stuff from back then but my god the level of cruelty spawned from it can really make you sad.
You narrated it brilliantly too by the way.

Good story! 👍👍
Thank you! 🙂
She seemed to be an angel. And they showed their own sin by their treatment of her. Heartbreaking.
I love that take on it!!!
So barbaric, sounds like the young women Olivia felt guilty and went mad
That's what I think as well. Guilt can be a powerful thing.

Poor Sadie 😥
I had the same reaction
Good lord. Buried alive. People are awful. Reminds me of Agent K’s quote.
Very horrible
They done Sadie dirty
For sure
My guess is Sadie was deaf...
Maybe so.
I wouldn't want to be any of the folks who took place in those acts. That's a big debt to have on one's soul...
Absolutely
That poor girl, this is why people turn away from religion.
I could see that for sure.
This is proof how powerful jealousy and hate can be.

Her mother made it what it turned out to be ‼️‼️ my married name is Baker does that count ⁉️🧙🏻♀️
Yeah, her mother was a BIG part in all this. Welcome, Ms Baker. I admire the name after all this.
No Debra .don't feel bad because you share the same name as safie Baker. I don't believe that she was a witch .they just treated her as one out of jealousy and rage and a hellova alot of ignorance.! GREETINGS FROM IRELAND 🇮🇪😊
I will admit, I was hoping the mother was driven mad because NONE of her children were ever married. I will also admit that I was hoping Olivia's crush refused to have anything to do with her after what they did to Sadie. Yeah, I'm a sap for the underdog. I can be oh-so petty about it, and I'm ok with that.
