From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime-one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.
The film also stars Amber Heard (“Justice League,” “Magic Mike XXL”) as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Platoon,” “Spider-Man 2”) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson (“The Conjuring” films, “Watchmen”) as Orm/Ocean Master, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables” films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (upcoming “Baywatch,” Netflix’s “The Get Down”) as the vengeful Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Lion”) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna; as well as Ludi Lin (“Power Rangers”) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando; and Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones,” “Green Lantern”) as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.
Wan directs from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (“The Conjuring 2”) and Will Beall (“Gangster Squad,” TV’s “Training Day”), story by Geoff Johns & James Wan and Will Beall, based on characters from DC, Aquaman created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. The film is produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.
Wan’s team behind the scenes includes such frequent collaborators as Oscar-nominated director of photography Don Burgess (“The Conjuring 2,” “Forrest Gump”), his five-time editor Kirk Morri (“The Conjuring” films, “Furious 7,” the “Insidious” films), and production designer Bill Brzeski (“Furious 7”). They are joined by costume designer Kym Barrett (“The Matrix” trilogy, “The Amazing Spider-Man”) and composer Rupert Gregson-Williams (“Wonder Woman”).

With a director like James Wan at the helm, I'm pretty stoked that this might actually be a good if not even great movie. This and Shazam look very positive, might be the turn in direction DC needed after... *Justice League*

Kyotosomo The only thing I’m worried about after seeing the trailer is Amber Heard’s acting. Aquaman is the first aquatic superhero in film, so the action will be unique. WAN is a great director. And Momoa is a decent actor. I really hope the writing and CGI aren’t bad.

Now, if they had just given all of these characters a movie of their own before jumping into Justice League and expecting everyone to have a connection to their characters maybe DCEU wouldn't be laughing stock.

Nah, Justice League could have worked fine if it was just done better. Didn't need to know who all the Guardians of the Galaxy were to work, and the JL characters were hundreds of times more commonly known before their respective movies. If the movie was better, it would have been fine.
Superman and Batman already had multiple solo films so they're legendary at this point. Wonder Woman had her solo film as well, Cyborg's origin was already covered in BvS, and Flash's TV show gave us his origin.
As for Aquaman, I agree that his solo film should've came out first before we got to Justice League.
That's true, too. But in GOTG's case it was a more lighthearted movie. To me, that makes me care more about characters more easily. For a dark movie like JL i think they needed to focus on the core of the characters some more.
Meme Iselfaneye people keep saying that because they see only the superficial “dur they’re a team hurr dur.” The Guardians weren’t heroes on their own. Them being heroes was literally a direct effect of them becoming a team. JLA and Avengers have it vise versa. They became a team because they are _heroes._ We never saw them be heroes, and so it was greatly weakened. Also, if the writers knew how the characters acted from their own movies like Marvel, they’d know how to write them together better...ain’t rocket science.

I was hoping they'd save him for the stinger scene (ha!) and give him the sequel. Hopefully he's used well. Such a great villain and way cooler than Ocean Master.

indeed. i just made a comment about this but am late so noone will see it. but dc needed to give these characters a movie of their own first before jamming a JL move down our throats and expecting us to care about these characters we were never given a backstory for.

they aren't retelling or adding onto a justice league story that has been told in the past. this is a different story. this is their OWN universe with their own heroes and villains. and they all need proper introduction as if we've never seen them before. Because we have not seen THESE character before.
