Before josh I kinda just chose laceless cleats and Nike balls, I never even thought about leather. Now I love mizuno and the Nike premier. He really made me realize quality is better than looks.
4:46 I totally agree with you! I noticed that from the 2019-20 Derbystar ( White / Blue / Grey / Black ) The colors were definitely less grippy/slippery than the white panels. As for the glue, I could’ve sworn they stitched the panels & glued over the stitches..... 5:07 It’s “knurled” 😉
I love the Select branded balls, I do prefer the standard brillant super as opposed to the TB variation, I don’t like the soft outer layer on the TB. They select match ball’s do make a difference!
Thanks for the feedback. I have 3 hand-stitched Brillant Super and get used to play with them; now plan to buy another 3 for shooting sessions and wonder about how the Thermal Bonded (TB) version. I may stick with the hand stitched then.
I hated that too with away games... When the ball was WAY overinflated and rock hard... To the point where Everytime you'd kick it was a high pitch ping...
Hi Josh, i really like your videos, Select also have pecific balls for turf field, and in my country we mostly play on them. Can you do some a review about them, they have like 3 balls for turf field right now. Thank you so much for reading this
I love playing with the Select Brillant Super/Derbystar Brillant APS. Has really nice feel when kicking, but I really love the feel when doing headers or blocking shots when playing in defense. My only negative is the durability of the patterns. Eventually the marking wear off. Even when only using for matches and only on natural grass.
Select balls are the best hands down. My 10 year old son has an adidas champions league replica ball (top replique), Nike strike, and a Select Numero 10. He only takes his Select ball to training, and tries his hardest to get his ball used in matches. The Select Numero 10 is around the same price as those Nike and Adidas balls, but it's so much better!!
Assume most players own more than one soccerball/football so it's worth it to keep one pro quality matchball in your rotation. If budget is a concern just wait until the next season's ball comes out or until the year after a major tournament.
I guess what truly does make a difference regarding patterns on footballs is the handling for goalkeepers. I myself notice when a ball is firmer or has much more noticeable stitching.
Hey Jose, remember when you did the best cheap what’s in my soccer bag? Did you want to do a 2020. I remember this now because you had a Select ball in the original video.
For me, the reason OMB (and top tier boots) are so expensive is because the people that care about tiers are us, the nerds that really value this stuff. Brands know that for us, having the OMB is a big deal and take advantage of that. People that value the ball they use very little don't care about that the differences in tiers and are not willing to pay that much money for the OMB.
I have to agree with you that balls should have some consistency if it’s going to be FIFA Pro. And yes once you get to a level that you know what type of equipment you like, you would like to continue to use that. I not only play football, i also surf, and i know for me i like a certain design surfboard for certain waves. Like my go to board is a 6’0” x 18 3/4” x 2 3/32 with single concave. My boots are Adidas Nemeziz 17.1 and 17+ because for me they feel the best. So i totally agree to you if you are playing in a certain league you would like the balls to be the same across the board. Great video as always. Also, what’s the old saying? If it is not broke don’t mess with it or try to fix it. Hence why we still see thee 32 panel design.
What is the quality difference between a non match ball like the Nike Strike, and a match ball like the Nike Merlin. Is it worth investing in match balls? I have 8 Nike strike balls and a few select brilliant super balls, but aside from how long they last ive noticed minimal difference. Thoughts?
Can you review the whole select range of balls? I feel there is no video on youtube comparing all of their wonderful products. I just puchased the select tempo TB but i had a tough time figuring out what is the difference between all the balls in their range :)
Hey Josh! Just wondering what the difference is between the Select Brilliant Super and the regular Select Super. I found the Select Super on sale for $79.95 and was wondering whether that would be the better bang for my buck when compared to a Select Brilliant Super for $93.26? Hope you can help.
True at my highschool we had custom leather balls that were heavy and that’s what we would use during practice and in games teams would always say the call is too hard lol
When you kick a Pro ball you never go back. They feel different and unless you have kicked millions of balls you wont tell the difference. Little things like when youre juggling and the ball looks so so round and feels so good when the ball touches your foot. Its like when you feel something plasticque and then you feel something of solid metal.
I now own the replica ims approved version of this select derbystar ball Josh it has the same golf ball triangle texture and the very same bladder but for $40 usd
Hi Josh, can you please confirm that this ball's panels are hand stitched? I just bought one of these from a reputable online store, received the ball today, I am almost certain that those panels are thermally glued together like most of the FIFA APPROVED soccer ball lately. As a matter of fact even in your video, it's not like you can really see the "stiches". Only excessive glue can be seen and a nice smooth seam between the panels. I can see the stamp on the ball "HSB" , but I am not really convinced.
Hey Josh quick question : I bought the phantom vsn elite and the quad fit squeezes my foot and feels very tight and like it may cramp. Do you think I should break them in because you said they do stretch a little bit to conform to wider feet(I have wide feet but nothing excessive as I have tried the puma future 5.1 and it is a little too wide). I’m also considering getting the nemeziz 19.1 or venom elite instead. I like a snug fit but am just worried they won’t stretch and I’ll be stuck with a boot that is too tight. Thanks
would you be able to review some of those fuzzy indoor soccer balls, my highschool plays with them and i wanted to know your opinion on the best one. thanks
I bought the brillant super ball from like 2 years ago which had the original price of 150 euro's so I'm nearly sure that it is top end. Well to be honest I've been disappointed with the ball as it feels a little simple, thin and hard. After hours of kicking the ball my feet kinda hurt due to the ball. I also use the adidas euro 2016 ball, the one just under the official match ball, well it feels softer, it is comfortable and with it I can make my strongest, consistent and confident shots. I'm pretty sure select is a good brand but I dont think I would use their ball over the adidas euro match ball and the one just under as well as the same two from nike. They fell more comfortable and I dont get tired of hitting it non stop after 2,3,4h of practice. I wonder why is my brillant super so underperforming, is it not a match ball and even so it was 150 euro's oven if I bought it on sale for 50
The Brillant Super only has 2mm of foam padding beneath the skin as far as I can tell, the TB (thermo bonded) version offers 4mm and seems a bit softer.
The regular Brillant super feels more like regular classic football and TB is an amazing football but a step into direction of Nike & Adidad top models, while being better than them (haven't tested the new Nike yet though)
@@Soccerreviewsforyou well i actually own the $60 dollar version of the first Merlin, they have the FIFA Quality Pro seal there but as you said can´t be compared Anyways thank you Jeremiah
Hey josh I’m from the US and I noticed that there is ball approving called NFSH and I wanted to know if that itss something like Fifa pro approved. What’s the difference?
It depends on the specific ball, but the one thing that is typically consistent is a different bladder, which reduces the bounce of the ball. On a nice AG pitch, I'd say an AG ball is worse, because it won't bounce like a normal ball would, but on an AG pitch with minimal padding where a normal ball would bounce too much/too high, and AG ball is good. They're not super common.
I'd be pretty happy with either of them to be fair. I'll always be a fan of the more traditional design and construction of Select balls. If you're looking for something solid from Select that's relatively inexpensive, the Select Numero 10 would be my pick.
I think it’s too old school. I really like the Nike Merlin ball and the flight one. And of course, if ur a kid u won’t like old school and always think old school things are really ugly
That's kind of my point. The brands along with FIFA have prioritized hype/sales over consistency. You'll never hear anybody say "I hate orange basketballs" and that's because the ball has been more or less standardized. Ultimately it's just my opinion, and I'm sure there are people that disagree with me, but it just seems a little strange to have so much variation with the ball compared to literally any other sport.
i have question i m about to buy the cheaper version of debbystar budelsliga ball but its saying there different weights it goes till weight 3 and my ball weight is weight 1 so if i buy it is it then too light or its normal thats my concern plase answer to my question
i had one and its definitely amazing for that price point. especially the ag/turf version, the build quality is great and the texture on the panels is similar to the adidas ucl matchballs
i went for am eye exam the other day, I have 20202021 vision
20/20 vision isn’t the best vision you can have
8:38 I can visualize our little Jonas shouting "I'll get it" and sprinting after a ball after it being kicked row Z just to get the same ball in play.
I think my preference is hugely influenced by Josh. Im so in love with Mizuno and Select because of Josh and Jaymike
Your preference is influenced by actual quality and not by money used on marketing. Perfect taste.
@@lepari9986 Thats a good way to look at it haha. Also to justify spending more than $350 for a Mizuno MIJ.

I have been waiting for one but I think it might be harder to say what he’s been using lately when there’s no soccer to try out the product
He pops out of nowhere in the beginning.😂😂. Love your vids keep it up
