- The members of the United Nations Security Council condemned ongoing advances by the M23 in North Kivu province, including the control of Masisi on 4 January and of Sake on 23 January, and expressed serious concerns regarding imminent threats against Goma, where around 700 people have been injured so far. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to VOA United Nations Correspondent Margaret Besheer for the latest developments on how the council is working to deescalate the conflict.
