Eskom recently announced that load-shedding will be here to stay for at least the next two years. This may mean higher levels of load-shedding, extended blackouts, increased frustration, and loss of productivity in businesses.
These frequent blackouts will also cause our appliances to fail and break down, which will, in turn, increase our insurance premiums.
Things are looking quite dark at the moment for the future of South Africa! Now while we as individuals cannot change the corrupt and incompetent systems that are in place to provide for our energy needs, there are some things that we can do to become more independent from Eskom.
So that is what we are going to explore today. I will go over several things that you can consider purchasing or installing in your home to make the blackouts more bearable. I will start with the cheap and easy stuff and then move toward the more expensive products that will eventually get you completely off the grid.
Let me know in the comments if you have any additional tips or suggestions on making your home more load-shedding-proof?

Make sure the solar installer is registered with ECSA and can issue an electrical compliance certificate on completion.

I love your videos bro, always very simple to understand and fun to watch. Would've been interesting to have a rand amount / range for each item mentioned though, for reference and to prevent people being scammed. Just a thought, use it / don't use it

Thanks man! Great suggestion! There are just so many different brands available, so difficult to compare in a single video. But I can perhaps make future videos where I dig deeper in things like power stations/inverters/UPSs?

I am an Installation Electrician and I built a Portable solar system inside a mobile toolbox, it consists of a 24v 50Ah LifePo4 battery, Victron solar charger, Chinese 3000w inverter (6ooow surge) and 4 by 100w solar panels that i put out daytime on my back yard and bring them in at night, extension cords to connect my fridges and freezer. Unfortunately 50Ah is not a lot so I can only run 1 fridge at night. Now I am aiming for a 5000w 48v 200Ah system when I have saved enough. At least my little system saves me money.

First time here, thanks for a great video, it was helpful & fun to watch too😂 Can you please advice me on which power supply system or Backup or UPS system i can buy to charge my laptop, phone (as hotspot for an internet connection) & lights simultaneously? I need to work on my laptop, teaching online during loadshedding. So i would need power for 4-6hours running my laptop, internet and lights... I would really appreciate your input... thanks! Del

Still don’t understand why in SA we still buy desktop pc. Laptops definitely the way to go unless you’re in the really small minority that requires massive performance
