You missed Baiyang trail and ChingShui Cliff which are the two highlights within Taroko National Park. The park was closed because of the violent earthquake attack several months ago and supposed to be opened up in some section at the end of this year while the others are in several years.

I wish I had gone for the Baiyang Trail since it was so close to Tianxiang. But i think going to ChingShui Cliff would have been difficult because I was moving about by public transport. But I would definitely like to return to Taroko someday after they recover from the earthquake. There is still so much more I would like to see.

@@AlanAngYou can get to ChingShui Cliff by bus 1132 as well though it's schedule is not so intensive. The bus 1132 is reachable at both "Hualien transfer station" and"Taroko" stop while the latter one is about seven hundred meters away from Taroko visitor center and close to the "東西橫貫公路"archway.

How was the weather in december?

In Kaohsiung, it was pleasantly warm. During the day you can go around in shorts and a t-shirt and you will be fine, which is good for riding bikes in town. At night it gets a bit cooler, but still a very pleasant temperature and you probably wont need a jacket. The weather was clear for my time in Kaohsiung.
In Hualien, it was mostly cloudy during my stay. It is colder than Kaohsiung and you will need a jacket and long pants at night and early morning. If you are heading to Taroko especially, bring something to protect yourself from the cold.
Taipei was similar. It rains often there so bring an umbrella. Nights are chilly but the daytime can be warm if the weather is clear.
Additionally, in Taiwna, there is less danger of typhoons during December, so heavy downfall shouldn't be a problem.
