Because the table is laid out opposite. In blackjack the dealers cards are closest to the dealer and it's opposite in baccarat. You can see the labels "Player" and "Banker" where the cards are dealt.
I don't understand when player and banker both had 16 player had a 9 and a 7 you take away the 9 that's 7 He then says take away the one and it's six. Why are we taking the one away?

Its the value of the cards added together. 9+7= 16 drop the 1 you now have 6. Dealer had 8+8=16 drops the 1= 6 now its a tie.
