      @@Rugmunchersauce3Personally, I like it when comedians put aside their stage personas for moments like this. People complained that Feargal didn't contribute much, but what he said about this conflict, by bringing it home and talking about the peace in Northern Ireland was very important. Feargal has a perspective and insight that the others don't. I think that's why the producers of the show had him on in the first place.

    • @pipster1891
      @pipster1891 10 месяцев назад +1

      Sure, nice speech, but you're not getting peace there until you recognise the cause of conflict is Israel and the west stops supporting and arming it and forces it to stop doing what it's been doing for 70 years.
      In Northern Ireland there's no government because the Unionists refuse to accept democracy. What's the UK government doing about that? Nothing.

    25.27 - why did Zoe's. joke get more of a laugh after Paul stole it as his own? He even doubled down with his "why?why?" (the second why? why of the evening, coincidentally).

    • @Hexon66
      @Hexon66 11 месяцев назад

      First, he didn't steal the joke. She didn't make the crossing the road joke. Either, 1) she was too slow with her delivery (poor trade craft) or 2) all she had was "Why?" (fuzzy comedic instinct). Either case would mean Paul saved the day.

    • @miguelurdaci7884
      @miguelurdaci7884 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@Hexon66 I think there is truth in that. Maybe she didn't read the room well. I've been watching HIGNFY for 30 years and it gives a lot of insights into comedy. Very often, Paul gets laughs because he is Paul. He may have saved the day. But he definitely doubled down on it, for whatever reason (keep the show rolling ... a bit formulaic, perhaps). Audiences at comedy shows are a very odd creature.

    • @Otheheavychange
      @Otheheavychange 10 месяцев назад +1

      The audience know Paul and his ways of bullying them into clapping or laughing or giving him credit for this or that. So sometimes they just perfunctorily give him what he wants to save time. He was pretty good in this show but I saw a more recent one where he clearly winces and frowns when he doesn't get the amount of laughs he thinks he deserves. To think this has been going on for more than a decade now...

      @@Otheheavychange I used to call it comedic bullying but it gets peoples' backs up as it seems a contradiction in terms (like nobody ever witnessed it at high school!!). In the early days, Ian and Paul had to work for their living, so it was forgivable, giving the show edge. Now the audience prefers the comfort of the familiar rather than edge, so they don't have to work for it now.

    Fergal Sharkey way out of his depth with these chatterboxes. Luckily they let him have a prepared speech. Not sure the comparison between Northern Ireland and Gaza makes that much sense, since the total number of people killed in Northern Ireland over 100 years is basically a trying weekend in Gaza. I applaud the sentiment, but it's easy to say sitting comfortably 2000 miles away.

      Unlike with Ukraine where the cause is pretty clear and it's easy to get aid and kits there (I've just donated money for a specialized vehicle and night vision drones), common Europeans are more or less powerless when it comes to Israel and Palestine. The situation is so hopeless that IMHO most people in the audience needed at least an image of peace, even though it doesn't mean much and it's easy to say.

    I'm sorry, "hissing, biting, and fleeing" are not facial expressions. They're behaviors, body-language at best, but if they are counting every behavior a cat does as a "facial expression", then the term has lost its meaning. I'm with Paul on this one, bogus study!

    • @apathybronson
      @apathybronson 11 месяцев назад

      Nobody said facial expressions though. They said 'expressions' and that usually includes body language and vocalisation.

      @@apathybronson I was actually paying attention for that detail. At 27:11, in the sum-up, Jo Brand says "facial expressions" twice. Now, that might have been editorializing that wasn't in the actual article, but even the fact that she said that shows that the implication, when a person hears the study, is that it was about facial expressions. At best, it's a click-baity and misleading title, implying that they've found over 200 "expressions" with the caveat that, "it's technically not just facial expressions, but you definitely thought that when you started reading."

      @@hogwashmcturnip8930 And I don't know why it's fun for you to deflate someone's observations. @@illusion-xiii 'Deflating someone's observations' 'analyze things and have a discussion' Boy you Really need that laxative! No one was 'Deflating' anything, unless you happen to be a balloon. You do seem a little puffed up by your own importance, or maybe it is all that anal retention. I was merely pointing out, in a another Joke, that is was just a throwaway comedic comment. That is what the show is about? Satire?(Analyze that) As you seem unable to grasp the concept of the programme and cleary have no knowledge of Jo Brand, I don't see why you would choose to make a big issue of something that went over your head. As for 'discusssion' There is nothing to discuss As for the 'Poor little Mee.'here that is Very immature. Instead of wasting time on things you don't grasp and being 'Offended' by comments on YT, I would suggest you work on growing up and getting real insight into how the world works. Otherwise you could spend most of your life being 'Offended' over trivialities. while around you the climate falls apart, people die.... THAT is what adults discuss. Not dissecting a joke they didn't get. At the moment it is not so much Illusion as Delusion .
