Amy, Wish u a happy Chinese New Year too. I’m a contonese living in Guangzhou and every year, we would go to a flower market after dinner on 年三十 New Year’ Eve with our family. But this year, due to the COVID, most of the flower markets are not allowed to open which it’s really a shame！😭
「恭賀新禧」is widely used in Hong Kong, but almost only used in commercials. Maybe it sounds a little too formal. We probably just say 恭喜發財 and 身體健康 when greeting relatives during the Chinese New Year in HK.

It's challenging to reunion even all my families live in the same city. The restrictions on numbers of people, how far you can travel, how many can travel in a vehicle, make it impossible to gather. This is the first time in my family history of 70++ years ( counting from the oldest folk) for not having one.
All these things are just kind of activities linking to peace, family, fortune, prosperity, the significance is 1.4 billion people doing the same thing every year which is literally over thousands of years!!!
The best Pen Chai comes from Hong Kong. It’s actually created by Cantonese. In Cantonese it’s called “Poon Choi” literally means Basin of Food. I have tasted the original one from Hong Kong and it’s usually eaten together family and friends. Compared to the one from Chinese cities, HK is still the no.1 spot to have pen chai.
It is nice to see that you guys in Australia have gourmet foods such as abalone and lobsters for the Chinese New Year's Eve dinner which is awesome!! Indeed, your RUclips video is the first one that I have seen celebrating a holiday with gourmet foods. There are tons of Chinese cheap foods RUclips videos. However, none on gourmet Chinese foods.
We have the same ingredients for poon choy in San Francisco California. We order it from restaurant, it comes in basin to heat up with the gravy. It’s actually cheaper than making it yourself. They deliver to your house you just need to order weeks ahead of time.
For the Chinese Zodiac that you have shown is somewhat accurate. It is according to when Chinese New year is and every year it is on a different date. Like if you were born on January 1st of this year, you won't be an OX but a mouse instead.

The compound character on your friend's door is actually a combination of 4 Chinese characters. It does not say Happy New Year but something more substantial:

前几天刚看了央视朱广权的视频，大门上福字要正着贴，工整方正，迎福纳福。家中小物件可以倒着贴，意味着福在家中了，福到了。
不过其实也就是个寓意。吉祥的寓意怎么样都喜人的。
