1976 was the year of the heatwave. I worked at Woolworth’s and often went to the outdoor pool at Grange-Over-Sands.
A Christmas film I enjoyed was Violent Night. It’s a black comedy on Netflix.

I saw that Scarborough bank holiday film recently too on RUclips. It just randomly popped up. I loved it too. I spent quite a bit of time in Scarborough in the late seventies when I was a teenager as my friend had two grannies there so we had places to stay. We had so much fun on virtually no money- lunch out was a can of pop and some chips-to share between us.

Thankyou that’s a great video Carla. Really interesting, going to take a look at some of your likes. I’m already watch LiveitlikeLauren and think she’s great too.
I love that you say it as it is in everything you do, your tryons video have proved very helpful for me. Being a woman who recently over four years lost over 100lb and since regained it all and then some more I feel a lot of what you share is very much the same for me
    😊

I screamed when you mentioned Pentatonix! I love them! Isaw them in concert when they came over here a few years ago and they lived up to the hype. Lovely bunch of people and mega talented.

If you enjoy renovations on RUclips can I recommend 'escape to rural france' mostly one guy (dan) rebuilding a burnt down chateau in France that had no roof, I have followed him since he started when he was 'Dan the gardener' at another chateau as seen on Chateau DIY infact he now apears on that too as well as 'help I bought a village'

Good recommendations Carla. I absolutely loved the Durrells and Friday Night Dinner. Another series I have enjoyed is All Creatures Great and Small. I set myself to hate it because I thought nothing could beat the original but I was wrong and I absolutely bloody love it. I was hooked after the very first one. Can't wait for the new series of Strike to start. If you have not seen it but want to, I would start in season one and build up to the current sizzle. LOL. Glad you are beginning to feel better. 😊

A couple of RUclips channels that I have watched for a little while. First, The Magic Geekdom - An American couple who love all things culinary and culturally in the UK. They have documented about 3 trips here over there last couple of years. They are also dog lovers and brought their dog to the UK on one of their trips. Just really nice to see parts of the UK through their eyes. Also Planet Imo and Shop with Imo - A musician in South Wales who has a shopping channel (loves B&M) and a DITL channel. a really varied channel which shows her day to day including gigs, shopping and cooking. Lastly Dish from Waitrose, hosted by Nick Grimshaw and the Chef Angela Hartnett who have a different guest each week and Angela cooks them a dish and they just have really relaxed conversation. From a fellow Bristolian just over in Fishponds!

I don’t watch terrestrial TV either as I’m quite militant about paying a TV licence (no way Jose!). I’ve been watching The Mistress and Solo both by Carla Lane (what a writer she is) on RUclips and have enjoyed them immensely (both set in the early 80’s which is interesting in itself) and, as for Jim in Friday Night Dinner - superb! I don’t know if you’ve ever watched Green Wing but he’s in that too and it’s quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve seen. There are many clips on RUclips. Anyway, exhausted myself now so off for a lie down!

Hi Carla - I loved Shameless/Brassic great light hearted comedy - we need more programmes like that on screen - I am going to give the Durrals a try on your recommendation - I too enjoy all the 1930's films I think that we have similar tastes - At the moment I am a little poorly & cannot concentrate on reading or writing any christmas cards - so I need to watch something that is not too deep wish me luck

Sense & Sensibility is my absolute favourite Jane Austin novel, but Marianne is not the most sympathetic character, however, I think Emma takes the crown as least likeable Austin heroine. It also really irks me that in film Austin main characters are always played by actors who are a good 20 years older than the person that they play! That said, I can happily watch any Jane Austin film or TV Series (Colin Firth as Mr Darcy❤) time and time again. Glad you are now on the mend, hope you have a happy and healthy Christmas with friends and family.

Agreed! I'm an Austen fan, too, and I think Marianne is up there, but Emma ranks top as the most unlikeable character x

We love Brassic - it's one of those programmes like Marmite - you either love it or hate it but we find it hilarious! Like you I couldn't get into Good Omens either and again don't really know why - I gave up in the end. I'll have to watch the Scarborough video - I went to college there in 1970 so will hopefully recognise some of it as we would go into town at the end of the day. Some good recommendations there - glad you're feeling better now 😊

I agree that Kaos was lacking. I too didn’t care for any of the characters. The series was cancelled midway during the season so I think our opinion was universal.
Have you watched The Bear? About a chef and struggling restaurant. Pretty good in my humble opinion 😊.

Ohh I LOVE Brassic, we watched it as it aired on tv, then re watched it again before the last series started😂 mind you I found Vinny funny in Emmerdale too, that was back in the day when I watched soaps, not seen them in years, all bloody shouting and gangsters now, I used to enjoy a kitchen sink drama😂
With you on Good Omens, love David Tennant and Martin Sheen but thought it was rubbish, I gave it a second go not long back, nope not for me, same with Kaos, I thought it tripe.
Good to see you’re feeling better now. 😊xx

I just finished watching “nautilus” on Amazon prime which you may enjoy - Nautilus is a TV series based on Jules Verne's 1870 novel 20,000 Leagues
    Story
The series is a prequel to the novel, telling the origin story of Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus. It follows Nemo as he sets sail, battles foes, and discovers underwater worlds.
    Perspective
The series takes a different approach to the source material, telling the story from the perspective of the colonized. For example, Nemo is an Indian prince who is forced into slave labor by the British East India Company.

I remember 1976 very well, I was 14 and I remember the heatwave very well.
Agree with The Durrell, loved that series. Also Friday night dinner a great fun series.
I agree about sense & sensibility but do enjoy it and Colin Firths Pride & Prejudice which I have watched many times.
I can recommend Parks & Recreation which is on itv x now , thoroughly enjoyed it and always like a series that makes me smile & laugh.
Also Schitts creek and Superstore. Xx
