I used to think that there's just pure friendships between guys and girls. But as time passes I think otherwise. When a guy and girl get really close, there must have been a time when the possibility of getting together crossed their minds, since they get along so well! But many reasons can come in, for example, one party may be attached or the fear of losing a friend etc. The fact that you are fearful to answer the question already reveals a deeper connection and thought, but a fear that the feeling may not be reciprocated, or awkwardness.
