The Butterwort is an amazing plant that can help keep your aphid problems at bay, while also having a beautiful bloom on it! Mine was personally blooming so I was pleased to be able to bring this video to you all! As always, thanks for watching and don't forget to Plant Prudently!

    I just picked one butterwort up today in a local flower shop because of a fungus gnat infestation it only cost 2€ sadly it was the only one left. I plan on getting at least one more. Hope I can keep this guy happy.

      Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! Yes I've recently considered this for my videos and I will definitely be trying to do it more. My next video is on the Key Lime Tree. I think you'll like what I did with it. It should be up tomorrow or Saturday. Please check it out and let me know if that does it.

    Thank you so much! You have no idea how helpful this video was! We were here thinking this plant didn't need much water and would enjoy plenty of sun on my window sill but it has dried up a little. I'll be sure to water it plenty more and keep it on my eastern window sill for some nice cool morning sun!

      Don't mention it! I'm glad the video helped you. Yes, I try not to let mine dry out completely. They do love their water. They come from the tropics around south Mexico, the Caribbeans, and central America. They typically get filtered light. I find mine enjoy around 12 hours of very bright shade. Let me know if you have any questions at all!

    My tiny, itty-bitty baby pingy caught its first gnat about 24 hours after I set it up in my room. It has already caught a couple of more gnats and now has an ant stuck to one of its leaves.
    Yes, they do catch insects.

      I have gnats in my room because I repotted my fittonia plant so I just got a butterwort today and I hope they stick to it because these things are driving me cuckoo.

      @TheGreenAlchemist  5 лет назад +1

      I do. It shipped out of Tennessee and the seller was Koehleric. They were amazing. The Butterwort's were very healthy and beautiful. I definitely recommend going through them if you can!

    Very Cool Video I'm Mexican, and I did know about this plant :( Will be my favorite from now on since is my favorite color purple yeah! However I live in Vegas, I think this plant will survive in doors?? as you know Vegas weather is not Tropical......lol Thank you I have no problem with your music I just focus in your voice.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  5 лет назад

      Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! You're right! This is a great plant, not just bc of its nationality, or beautiful flowers (I love that color purple) but also bc they eat pests. If you ever know anyone who has a problem with aphids, fungus gnats or anything that's a small pest this plant is worth it's weight in gold!
      Yes this plant does really well indoors. I haven't taken either of mine out once since I've had them. Weather here in Kentucky let alone in Vegas is very dry and humid so you pretty much have to keep them indoors. Just remember they like a lot of water (I use distilled, it's super cheap, about .80 cents a gallon) and don't feed them, they'll eat bugs and thrive on neglect. Let me know if you have any other questions. Plant Prudently!!

    I wanted a butterwort so much. I finally found one that wasn’t too expensive and it arrived today. It’s small but it has two other butterworts under it. I don’t know if I should separate and repot them.

    I have a Tropical Butterwort, Pinguicula x 'Aphrodite. Different leaves,same flowers. I have to keep mine consistently moist but no standing water. Any info on these?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 года назад

      No, unfortunately I do not have much info on them. However I definitely want one now. I really like the look of their leaves and I'm kind of interested in them from an evolutionary standpoint. Why would they want their leaves to be thinner? Seems like they would want their leaves to be wider to give the insects a bigger surface area to land on and thereby be eaten.

      @@TheGreenAlchemist I've never grown them before, I have sarracenia, VFTs and drosera, at the moment, so pings will add to my collection, one of the ones I'm getting is the hardy one, p.grandiflora. I have a pond, so it will live near there. The other 2 are Mexican ones, not sure of their names.

    Excuse me gringo, Guatemala and central and south Mexico are not deserts at all. Actually, Mexico was funded in a system of floating gardens, which you can still visit in Xochimilco, México City. They have huge plant nurseries where you can buy carnivorous species.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  3 года назад +3

      Im not sure what you meant here. I quite literally said that these guys come from the wetlands and not the desert like conditions found therein. I know Mexico has four deserts, the great basin, the Mojave, the Snoran, and the Chihuahuan deserts. Sure they both have wetlands also, and I said that too.
