1st year running the 1.5's Shot a 3 yr old buck 1/4ing towards at 34 yards through the shoulder on entrance, got exit right behind the off side leg. He took off with his chin in the dirt plowing like he had been shot with a slug through that shoulder. Insane holes, both entrance and exit. 1st mech head I've shot, unless something drastic changes I'll be using these for a long time.
You sir, just sold me on passing these heads up. Gonna stick with my Slick Tricks. Last 20 or so deer that met the tricks, didn't go out of my sight. 7 deer have been taken with the same head only needing a blade change. No bent tips after being driven 6 to 9 inches in the ground on a few straight down shots. Thank you for the honest review.
I almost decided to try Sevr last year but I just cant give up my G5 Deadmeat's. Those broadhead's fly great, deploy everytime, and leave awesome bloodtrail's. And a big one, they have no O-rings.
I love watching arrows in ballistic gel. I bought a pack of grim reapers carni-four because of your vid after shooting fixed heads for 24 years. I killed a deer the other day with one and was pretty impressed. Thanks.
Jay_Miller the Ballistic gel isn’t the best translation to actual tissue but it’s the best option to show the cut! Love hearing that brother! Glad we could help!!! Post the picture on our Facebook page!! Blue Collar Outdoors USA
I'm shooting swhackers, great head, some don't like the smaller 1.25" entrance but most deer only go 30-40yds, were living in a great age for archery technology,. Those sevrs look really good also, but I'm sticking with what works for me, until something changes, thanks for the video!
I’ve seen that already, Sevr are good heads when they deploy, I’ve had 3 fail out of 4 times using them.. to me that’s not ok and is exactly why I’ll never shoot them, I’d take swhacker over them since they have never failed in testing I do want to test the new Sevr heads and see how they perform in our tests though!
How much do poundage do you pull back and someone with a 28.5 inch draw shooting, pulling 60lbs on a Mathews vertix. Do you think I could shoot the bigger 2 inch cutting heads? Or should I shoot a 1.5/1.7inch head?
Honestly the only one I’m impressed with is the Sevr 1.7 titanium I would highly recommend shooting it if you were to shoot sevr, in my opinion there are far better options on the market Have you seen all our Broadhead tests?!? My draw is 83.5 lbs 27 inch draw 475 total arrow weight
Wondering how good that 1.5 would be if it hit an ol hog in the plate? Would it stop soon as it hits the plate? Or would it get close to that same penetration? Wonder if you could make 1 slit in that gel about 3 inches past the point of entry an put three 1/8" leather straps or belts in there back to back an see if the broadhead goes through and deploys. Would be a neat test.
@ryanlipkin6964 anything them two did is invalid to me (although I could see this passing through ribs easy) as the Bowmar’s get slammed with heavy poaching fines actually to the extent of being called the “worst poaching ring” too? Many issues… 133k$ issues to be exact
Correct I know about all this, not sure what that has to do with the performance of the Sevr head into a Cape buffalo. I’m talking about the head not their moral conduct.
That’s hard to say that’s pretty low poundage 25 yards and under you should be good with great shot placement but I’d recommend trying to bump that poundage up
What about a turkey and 6" of dirt, should that be enough to open a broadhead? Wasn't enough for my Rage. That why I gave up on them. I also tested both and SEVR open up much easier. I no longer have any faith in the Rage and will be giving SEVR a try next fall.
Andy Brooks it’s hard to put up the reapers, they’ve been tried & true for me! But I am going to have a thorn Rift 2.2, wasp Jak-Knife & I’m leaning on putting a Sevr 1.5 in my quiver as well!
What’s your broadhead of choice for whitetail? Have you seen the True Blue broadhead? They look pretty cool and penetrate excellent. I might give them a try this year. I’m just trying to decide which head to put on the front of it. It will be a little pricey shooting basically two BH at a deer, but it will be devastating
Well we’ve been testing a bunch of heads and thus far, grim reapers, thorn & annihilators standout amongst all else I haven’t heard of those but I’ll be looking into em after filming this weeks vids today!
Glad to see you do a second video. Saying that Rage broadheads open better than SEVR may not always be the case. I've had problems with Rages deploying. Many others have as well. I had a Rage broadhead pass through a Gobbler and into 6" of dirt. Didn't deploy even in the dirt. When I returned home I tested an unused Rage by jamming it through a cardboard box. It didn't open, and must take a terrific amount of energy to open. I've since ordered SEVR 1.7 and 2.1 heads to try. They open every time when I jam them through a cardboard box. They fly at least as good as field points. I would prefer to use fixed heads like others have suggested but have tried several and can't get them to group well beyond 20 yards with higher speed compounds and crossbows.
I just didn’t like how the test came out with sevr although even after the second test the 2.1 head didn’t impress me at all, that 1.7 though that’s a slick rig
Ballistics gel is the worst thing you could use to test a mechanical broadhead anyway. It is designed to maximize hydraulic shock when shot with bullets. It won’t give consistent results when opening broadheads. Now the Jean over the gel is a good idea I think to replicate hide and use the gel to see the wound channel but you can’t count on a gel designed for bullets to work on broadheads like these to open them. Iv used these since they came out and never ever seen one not open on game at all distances from 11 yards to 82 yards and on broadside shots quarting shots I ran one of these heads almost the full length of a whitetail deer shit at the base of the throat and came out the left quarter and the fletching was the only thing holding it in the deer. They are nasty on game!
I mean have you seen all our other tests? Every other brand works just fine 🕺🏼 I also took a Sevr afield to test and it didn’t deploy on a whitetail either so… We use these to view the wound channel and for that it is the best
@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Yeah anything can happen iv never had one fail though! If anything has any portion of it mechanical there is always a chance of failure. @@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Help me understand then. Because I'm not all that good and I'm not doing anything sophisticated. I just tune my arrows, I use an arrow and a broadhead roughly appropriate for the setup, and I sharpen them. That's it. For that to be the case I would have to imagine that guys are often getting single-lung shots or barely penetrating into the second lung to the point to get them thinking that 25% more or less penetration will make that difference between single versus double lung.
