- Can you beat Final Fantasy XIV while stuck in first person mode?!
...yeah probably.
But it'll be fun to see how an idiot fares at the dumbest challenge of all time!

Hey, I think this hit the algorithm again for a little bit, but for anyone passing by in the future hoping to get invested, I'm afraid I have to put the kibosh on it. Apologies in advance: ruclips.net/video/08J5ztlyA-8/видео.html.
I hated this video, thought I should let you know since you told me to
what a hero.
Absolute madness. First I heard you say its first-person, and I loved and respected this. Then you piled all the additional challenges on to and - I was utterly horrified. Please give us more.
Imagine you've already been told but just in case, I'm fairly sure the 'face enemy when attacking' is an option in the menus. character config -> control settings -> target subtab -> automatically face target when using action. The problem with this is if you disable it, with first person, you can't use abilities when moving away/turning around.
And you find that out like two mins into the video after I type that out haha
@@bahamut416 I was about to write the same comment so don't feel too bad lmao
God that is the most stressful Titan (Normal) I've ever seen lol
About that Jump remark... That was actually a very recent change! Before I think 6.3, but maybe the change was as recent as 6.4, Jump worked just as you thought it did. They changed it now because it has some edge cases where you could avoid/get hit by an AOE because of the temporary displacement of Jump.
My guess is one of the savage test team did Caloric theory with the old system and constantly exploded. So they begged for this change.
You say edge cases, but historically, the #1 killer of dragoons has been jumping at a time when there's an AOE between you and the boss. I kinda miss the risk of it, the new version makes High Jump less of an upgrade.
It's an improvement overall though. It was certainly jarring not seeing the camera shift the first time.
the death punishment rly adds to this challenge
its not "all or nothing" like a hardcore challenge but there's still a risk which i love
I've actually been doing this on the side for the while now (tracking my progress at firstpersonxiv on carrd)
Very cool stuff! My character is "In First'person" on Hyperion. I've gotten to the start of Heavensward, but before I continue the story my goal is to 100% the content in ARR. At this part I only have The Coils of Bahamut remaining.
Edit:
You can improve your first-person movement by adjusting the following settings:
Character Configuration -> Control Settings -> General -> 1st Person Camera Auto-adjustment (and Enable Y-axis auto-adjustment)
I loved this!!! Something about seeing Eorzea in first person completely retextualized the environments for me, I'm definitely not jealous of the WoL for putting up with it.
A completely harmless challange, surely nothing can go bad later.
I already love this first episode and im already looking forward to the next one.
Yeah I did this for the first two and a half years. Made it as far as the end of stomeblood before it started getting simply too difficult for me.
Good luck on beating that record of mine! 👍
My brother in Christ, you went for easy mode - restart as a Lalafell xD
They removed mobs giving exp in dungeons awhile ago, sadly. Pulling extra doesnt give extra exp anymore, only the boss does.
Mobs don’t actually give exp in dungeons as of 6.0, it’s all on bosses now
i like looking around cities in first person but i never actually played in it. this is a great vid :D
The comment about moving backwards. So you can press and hold the left and right mouse click and your character can move in the direction your mouth is facing. So if you just press then and turn the camera around you can move at full speed. Someone also mentioned legacy controls as well
Great video overall but the music you edit in is amazing, the terraria and MapleStory OST hit so hard
Just as I posted this you put the low HP music from pkmn man, this is takin me back. This is soo good
You running away after titan reminded me of the time I was leaving that fight on a character and got one shot by the tonberry hunt rank who was hiding just outside the cave waiting to ambush me.
This was really entertaining! Makes me want to do my own first person playthrough, lmao. That was possibly the most stressful Titan I've ever seen XD
This is hilarious especially since I accidentally found the first person button just the other day
that reminds me of 2 instances. 1st when I entered the Central Highlands of Coerthas, which killed any interest I had to play/start Skyrim and 2nd when I turned on First Person Mode in Rabanastre, which killed any interest of getting the remaster or something
Rath games is actually doing an iron man; the amount of prep he needs to do to do a single instance is anything but small. Its nice to see more challenges though, they are a great watch, i hope this one becomes a great success.
I'm so happy to see someone doing this! I was hoping to try this myself, but I have yet to try it out! I look forward to seeing how this series goes on! Best of luck to you, and have fun!
I love first person, its so cursed that adds flavour when out of content to do.
I'm just 5 minutes in so I'm not sure if you figured this out already but I think legacy mode might fix both the camera snapping and the slow walk when walking back
the nearly 1-to-1 intro from Rath Games threw me
The heck? At about 8:00 it started into Donkey Kong Country music. I am just checking this game out, but I recognized the DKC underwater theme immediately.
Love these kinds of challenges, I've been working on one myself just without the benefit of making it content for other people lol I guess I just hate myself
I hope those challenges inspire 'our' dev team do develop some crazy stuff
Huge congrats on the 10k views gamer. Hope to see more :^)
That poor sprout tank at the end there lol
This is wild!
Luckily you did dragoon after the rework where jump was slow and moved you back and forth. (High jump did the same but faster)
I miss how janky old jump/high jump used to be, but it's nice to avoid huge animation locks and deaths now
You no longer get any more experience for killing all the enemies in a dungeon :) They've changed the dungeons a while back so that the bosses reward the total experience of all the enemies in the previous section of the dungeon, regardless of how many you kill or skip, you always get the full amount. (They did this to reduce server load, apparently)
EDIT: Jump got changed to not displace your position in 6.4, this helps Dragoons not get hit by AoEs and hazards in the way of their enemy even though they are "jumping" at them.
More Edit!: You can't sneak past the skeletons in the Haukke Mannor cell anymore, there's a trigger that engages combat upon entering the room. It even happens while stealthed as Ninja!
This feels like trying to play Assault Android Cactus with the FPS mode activated. 💀👍
When I get bored, I sometimes do a whole session of 1st Person only run of roulettes.
In loved it~ and I probably looked weird haha.
Of course I tell my rando party that I'm doing ut. Hahaha
damn that healer carried titan lol
Holy poop! I've seen you around Excalibur XD if I see you around again, I'll try to cheer for you to give you encouragement lol
You could LEAVE the ifrit instance by talking to that dude?!? I never knew, wth
i thought of trying to do the same with lalafell cause i think their camera height is generally lower, also on melee lol, but i didnt want to play the entire story again
I use 1st person quite a lot tbh, especially in cramped dungeons where you get squashed against a wall and the camera won't move right.
This is such an interesting challenge! I've also undertaken a osrs inspired challenge run of ff14. Excited to see how yours goes
Ok, good points of this vid:
+ creative challenge
+ good commentary
+ fellow Roe :D
Bad points:
- This video is locked to 720p! >:(
A, who cares. I'm gonna watch it anyways XD
I accidently did this challange for 5 minutes in my very first dungeon when I hit R3 on the first pull. Ahh those fun times when you know nothing about the game.
Optimal play at a low level dungeon? what sorcery is this?!
id love to see you do *that* one endwalker trial in fp LOL
Should have done Lalafel for extra immersion
BOW DOWN, OVERDWELLER!
this was fun to watch :) i done 1st person one time for ramuh normal back in the day no hud is also fun on mnk back in the day O.o
You shoulda done this as a min height Lala, it woulda been way harder
Good video, shockingly low amount of views. Also nice to see a fellow Scott who plays this.
This was great fun, watched while doing a osrs steel smelting grind lmao
Ah jump not moving you anymore is a recent change
its basically just assassinate, so drg isnt really that much more interesting as a job then anyone else, minus backflip.
line aoes are nice though
I did one dungeon in 1st person and dragon sight almost made me sick lol
Wait there's a puzzle for the first dungeon
7:39 you click decline after clicking through all the text... I do this far too often.
I love first person but I can’t imagine doing combat in first person lmao
I've streamed some of my playthrough in First person with some different additional challenges if you're interested. I haven't streamed in almost a year though.
Oh god the raids....
U can change ur camera to legacy and your movement will be more free
lol. made an alt months ago named First Person to do this. its fun but u need to know a lot about the fights sometimes
the ffxiv content i'm looking for !
Song that plays during Sastasha?
Nvm Donkey Kong Aquatic Ambience, I found it.
I love it!
pogger Rayman ost
Now do it using a lalafel.
You need to use legacy controls bud
back in 3.0 (heavensward) I thought of doing both a 1st person challenge, and then "my whole team, including me, do all dungeons with the UI turned off"
but as the years have gone by, and i slowly got ppl whod agree to do all the dungeons w/o the UI, the game grew easier, and too much of the challenge was removed. tanking w/o seeing threat is now a joke, and u can infinitely spam AoEs. No longer did u have to worry about running out of MP or TP.
Most DPS have simplified rotations, that they could still do good enough to beat DPS checks by only doing half their normal DPS. And healers dont have to worry about running out of resources nearly as much as they did in the past. (and no cleric stance lol)
its unfortunate, I was really training up for it.
Watching you play like this reminds of when I used play EverQuest back at the start of the 2000s. It was weird to NOT play in first person for me. Really enjoyed this.
No wonder you don't like Dragoon, your Full Thrust is social distancing from the rest of your combo and Disembowel left for milk 12 years ago.
Love this idea! Extra mobs in dungeons don’t give xp anymore sadly so it’s just a waste of time to go after them. They also give you setheryte tickets that take you directly to horizon now! So you don’t need to do any random teleport then travel stuff! It’s the best qol update I think
As a fan of Rath, I'm happy to tell you good luck ! Soloing dungeons can get hard and players harder :D
You are insane
This is gonna be great
This by far has to be the most amusing, And nerve wracking video I have watched of ffxiv. As someone who started out playing in first person (I learned better before starting ffxiv thankfully) it hit home for me, and Titan looks TERRIFYING in first person
I've done a few dungeons in 1st person, mostly to make CT runs more interesting. Black mage is a bad time since half your abilities blind you for their whole cast time.
I’ve done this on accident quite a few times, and have even tried to do full dungeons in first person, but as soon as I see any aoes I’ve noped out of there. Maybe I’ll give it another try, even if only with a trust or something.
Just thinking about some of the aoes I don’t even know how to avoid in regular play. (I’m looking at you first boss of Alzadaal’s legacy)
i love that people perhaps getting bored during patch downtime or just wanting to try new things has brought all these mad challenges! good luck on this endeavor, it's gonna be an interesting one. 🙈
So good!
I can't stand ninja and if i was forced to level one in first person I would just not, hard.
17:15
Jump got updated with 6.4 that it doesn't change your position anymore. It did that before.
You can also now use it while you are bind, this was not possible before 6.4 as well
Jump was just changed recently to not have the camera track, so I wonder if it would have worked differently in first person before that change lol
It did - I tried it once and it was whiplash-inducing.
ill need to finish 70-90, ive been putting it off, wont be able to keep watching these without spoiling myself!
great video! never thought id find myself invested in a challenge run, ive always messed around in first person but never for more then 5 minutes.
Fun fact, the skeleton in the basement, as well as a lot of the mid bosses and a few of the bosses up to like, level 35ish can be stunned out of their large AoE casts.
Somehow the thing that strikes me as the most unusual about the way you play in this video is not the first person camera, but that you have Full Thrust on 6 instead of 3. Like, you do you, but it disturbs me at a visceral level.
Final Fantasy XIV and RuneScape in the same video. Excelente start. 👍 Insane, stupid, those are the best kind of ideas. 🤣 So many limits, but first person view? That’s new to me. 😁 Don’t like Dragoon huh? Tsk tsk. 😉 This was honestly fun to watch. Looking forward to the rest. 👍
I always thought first person would be a fun challenge for ffxiv. Really validating to see someone actually doing it. And as a roegadyn too no less!
Haha, I remain proud that I have no trouble navigating Camp Drybone
Honesy, looking a everying in first person is kind of interesting
I just want to say that probably nobody got the reference but the casual mention of SR40-ing is appreciated lol. Funny to hear classic doom references in.;.. a FF14 video.
...Somehow, DKC1 underwater music seems painfully fitting for Sastasha. Now I just want to replace all music with DKC music.
Fun fact....
I do believe your position on the ground doesn't update when you're in the air for a jump.
So if you jump out of an aoe you're more likely to get caught in it as your position isn't updated until you land.
It's not real first person until your camera actually follows your character's head and goes absolutely mental during attack animations. Imagine playing Ninja.
I tried to live stream and do the entire MSQ in first person, it's not as bad as you might think initially. I only got to the three intro dungeons though so I imagine it gets crazy at higher level.
The only thing im taking away from this is that I'm not the only one to be unable to orient myself in camp drybone. I feel validated.
I like that you played Aquatic Ambience in sastasha
This almost makes it feel like one of this old school first person RPGs, like King's Field or something.
9:20 You don't get extra exp for killing all the mobs in a dungeon. All of the exp comes from bosses.
My jaw dropped when I saw you only got 1k subs
another Scottish final fantasy xiv RUclipsr... oh wow
huh they let you rez people who died to falling in Titan now? well good for new players
"You can tell he knows what he's wearing no clothes" Best quote ever 😆
i have seen so many people using this same glam (including me) recently.
