I'm a retired professional firefighter working through ptsd myself. My heart was so warmed to hear when he said he is 13 years sober. I'm sitting here watching this battling through my own sobriety right now. I'm 2 days clean from a serious drug addiction. Tomorrow is another day. Thank you.
keep it up bro. I'm coming up on 8 months sober on a serious drug. It's a daily battle. Think of it like this, if you made it through yesterday, you can make it through today. Worry about tomorrow when it gets here. Take it one day at a time bro. Keep your head up.
Keep pushing my guy i understand the struggle believe me i do it’s never easy and never will be but be sober and drug free is the best feeling in the world. Been sober clean for 10 years now but always afraid I will slip up and go backwards! Just keep fighting!!
Praying for my friend my brother. I could have a day tomorrow and you jump ahead of someone who just had almost 30 yrs... just saying ... Don't compare yourself to others when attending meetings, Remember just try to Relate to the issues they bring up. Get a solid sponsor, not someone w all the war stories look for someone with quality sobriety... I'm praying for you daily. Stay safe. TY for your service at Fires ..... In AA/NA love WE love you. Peace from Big Jim New Hampshire USA aka Boston Strong

I'm speechless right now how this man after what he's been thought can sit there and tell his story. The pain is so crazy I feel it through the phone. My man I have more respect for you than you will ever know.
25 mins into this episode and I'm shocked by how he is able to revisit all his experiences in a calm matter. This guy has been through some real traumatic events. I hope our government can look out for him and vets like him seamlessly just as easy as they put him and others in places like that to experience the worst at a young age.
Your interviewing skills are getting so much better, thank you for not cutting him off. Excellent interview, I've been following Hector since the beginning of his channel! Cheers to both of you.
Bravo seems like he's a real one. As men and as soldiers, sometimes we feel the need to carry more than we should or we have to on our shoulders. But we have to be told and reminded, we're only human too. You're young man, keep on keeping on brother. Thank you for this interview.
Thank you!!! It took me until I was in my late 40s to really understand why my father was so crazy, some time. He was a WWII combat Vet who fought in the Pacific theater. He wasn't violent towards the family just very angry & distant from showing love and compassion to the people closest to him. He was a hard worker and respectful but really hard to understand... RIP old man!!!
My step-dad got a 14-year sentence in the US in 2011 for drug trafficking. He had a completely clean record, up to that point. They are normally very lenient on first timers, but he was made a scapegoat for a Mexican kingpin. He died in prison 6 months into sentence at age 51. He was tortured to death by the prison guards because he had refused to cooperate by giving other names. He refused to be a grass, basically. He'd been married to mom 30 years, and she was never the same again. She was the truly innocent victim in all of this. She died 7 years later. A peek into the US justice system for you.
From the very beginning, you can hear the stress in this man’s voice very emotional rest in peace to your combat buddy, thank you for service and your fallen service members ❤🇺🇸🙏🏽
Surrender to win… once I understood this concept, that it wasn’t weakness, it saved my life. This man is a real one, great interview I wish him success in everything.
I respect the hell out of you brother. It was a real honour to hear your story. I am similar with you in the sense that in moments of extreme violence and tense unknowns, I will stand in my mud and draw my line. As a man, that is one of few things that represents your moral integrity. I know this life and have been in prison myself. I respect the hell out of you for how you carried yourself throughout career and never faulted on your integrity, morals or resolve. Thank you for sharing your story.
His entire interview was all heart. You can tell that Hector really wanted this interview to really mean something. Not just for him or for RUclips, but, every single person he spoke of. He wholeheartedly honored their names, their memories, & the great impact that they all had on his life & in the lives of their families and friends, too. He dug deep within himself & he was so sweet, kind, sincere, humble and thoughtful. Those moments of vulnerability & raw emotion; beautiful. It's not being weak when you reach outside of yourself and ask for help. He made that statement loud & clear. Why? Because, he has a heart of gold & wants others who need help to know it's OK to ask for help. 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💫💫💫✨✨✨✨ God Bless Hector. His beautiful family. And, every single person who stood next to him in The Army. God Bless all of our servicemen and service women yesterday, today, tomorrow & ALWAYS❤️🤍💙🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✨✨✨✨✨💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💫💫💫💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌷🌷🌷🥰🥰🥰🥰

The part about staring into the abyss, ive been there. It takes alot of self control to not go to far. But something happens to you that makea your nerves stand on edge and feel alive when things pop off. It gives you a high.
CO physical fitness requirements were removed because the physical duties are restraint, immobilization, storming a cell, etc which relied mostly on weight and body mass, and they execute action as a group vs 1 prisoner.
Ian, I remember years ago, as a tourist attraction, you could pay to be locked up in one of Alcatraz's solitary cells for a night. I'm not sure if they still offer it.
To Hector. Brother I went through basic in 78. Had drill Sargents from Viet Nam war this was back in the day when they could cuss you,, hit you. Had one drill Sargent who use to drop to his knees and beg for anyone to hit him who didn't like him or his Job. Their favorite thing to do was yell at you telling you if you were married or had a girlfriend that they were whores and your mother's also. They went hard on the physiological training. Thanks for your service, sir. After almost three decades on active duty and several combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, I can relate. To me, one of the worst things is that they trained us to never report. We could do everything for them, but you better not say anything..
And people wonder why we struggle...
Wow Hector thank you for being so honest. I never knew all this about you. From your homie from calexico
And my Thursday is lit
When he spoke about prison murders, I thought about LA Mexican rapper Moneysign Suede who was killed in prison in Salinas.

The part about staring into the abyss, ive been there. It takes alot of self control to not go to far. But something happens to you that makea your nerves stand on edge and feel alive when things pop off. It gives you a high.
Yep, Veterans used to find out about benefits by talking to each other. I did 7 years active duty got out and went to college for computers.
CO physical fitness requirements were removed because the physical duties are restraint, immobilization, storming a cell, etc which relied mostly on weight and body mass, and they execute action as a group vs 1 prisoner.
I was IAG gang taskforce for some years, and I agree and understand the activity inside prison.
Another great one Ian! 👍Dude definitely has done & seen some 💩 in his life for sure!
Ian, I remember years ago, as a tourist attraction, you could pay to be locked up in one of Alcatraz's solitary cells for a night. I'm not sure if they still offer it.
I just ran into Ian ‘s show a couple weeks ago. I have been watching your show Hector. Nice!!!
His constant clearing his voice…swallowing demons. Feeling for you bro..

Great interview!
Ian another awesome podcast. Keep them coming brother.
Very good interview
