    Thank you for your reply. Please try to include in this next video (if possible) the gilding and the way you give a patina to a restored part between two old ornaments.

    Ha ha 😂. Though, when alls said and done, a really delightful decorative object. The starting point of many conversations for its owner. Your video production and your ease of presentation are significantly superior to initial work. Thanks for posting Ruth. Have a good week

    First of all thank you very much for your videos I think you're the only gilder who do instructives things like that on RUclips. I'm an amateur gilder located in France and I have a request for you : can you please make a video about sanding complexe decoration covered with gesso like flowers for instance? Do you use sandpaper ? steelwool? Thank you. (glad you use french products by the way !)

    • @RuthTappinGilder
      @RuthTappinGilder  Год назад +2

      Decoration is alway hard to sand. You can wet polish with a hot wet rag. There are gesso cutter like reverse chisel to cut in veins in leaves etc. When something giltwood comes into the workshop I'll see if I can make a video.

    Do you perhaps have a video of gilding steel? Is it even possible? I want to gild the pommel of my sword. The pommel is made of hardened steel. The sword is being handled quite often (I am a historical fencer) so it should be able to withstand a bit of scratching. Is it possible to gild it without the gold coming off?

    • @RuthTappinGilder
      @RuthTappinGilder  3 месяца назад

      You can gild metal this is a video gilding copper ruclips.net/video/yOP7WXlGuBo/видео.html and this one gilding a key ruclips.net/video/_nJwUFwvQT8/видео.html
      It will get scratched easily so you would need to seal it with a good varnish. Traditionally it's shelack.

    Hello again Ruth : )
    What would you recommend to use in place of button polish to seal porous surfaces up with?
    I can't seem to find it anywhere here in Australia. Thanks

    • @RuthTappinGilder
      @RuthTappinGilder  Год назад +3

      Button polish is shellac, you may be able to find that, flakes or made up as french polish. If not any sealer like varnish it will just take much longer to dry.

    Great Video! Is is possible to gild and burnish the teeth? Would that be water or oil gilding for something like teeth?

    • @RuthTappinGilder
      @RuthTappinGilder  Год назад +3

      Thanks. If you want a gloss finish i would probably go for the Kolner Instacoll gilding. You can't burnish oil gilding, you will need 4-6 coats of bole to get a burnish on water gilding. Give the Kolner Instacoll a go.

    seems that gilding with Instacoll Base and Instacoll Activator is not very stable and is only for objects that are not touched?

    • @RuthTappinGilder
      @RuthTappinGilder  Год назад +1

      Any gilding would need to be sealed if it is to be handled. The gold is so thin it won't last.

      @@RuthTappinGilder To get good strength one may need a gold plating with yellow gold or palladium 500 which is electroplated onto copper items for good adhesion?
