You express yourself so well that I don't mind the solo mission. I agree with the vast majority of what you said. The only thing I would say is that I feel like Doechii is carving out her sound but it's been in the singles she's released before this mixtape. Songs like "alter ego" and "mph" blend in more house, electro, and punk elements. But I can't help but think about the mentions on this mixtape about her label not getting her sound plus a recent interview where she talked about wanting to incorporate sounds from Berlin underground rave music. It makes me wonder if she has more unique music in the vault that her label is not allowing her to release because they don't think it will be as commercially successful. But I do hope for the full album we get the more experimental side of her.
8/10 is fair. It's more of a 9 to me, but I'm older, and this mixtape speaks to my generation. I have a feeling she'll release a remix version of the mixtape with a bunch of features. Have you heard her feature on "Pro Freak"?
Yeah at the end of the review I mentioned her collab with Smino. I think there’s a couple songs on this project that could have used him as part of it but Doechii seemed hellbent on making this mostly a solo effort
Very nice mixtape. Great blend of styles & genres. Love the old school nods! A few times I heard a possible Ladybug (Digable Planets) influence. I agree that it does feel a bit too long. Sometimes instead of “adding” it’s better to “subtract”.
