Solid Gold we had it in this bottom island country of the World 🌍 we only had 2channels.Like the other Music Shows so fantastic to see them live on stage an audience to the World 🌍 we viewed like this and so many Artists played on.Firefall what a massive Band setup with the ballads this so catchy they could be a Supergroup some of the guys would helped many others over the years. This could have been so much longer but a huge hit otherwise
Cheryl, I had this going on in my head today. Reminds me of Still the One, and What you're doin' doin' me with your love, songs I was hearing while driving in LA in the '80s.
pondering this so called life we are in that has become nothing but dark times and remembering the way it used to be, I weep for the times we have lost, so much loss, all the moments, gone in the blink of an eye, it is over
Dark Skies, I feel your pain cause I too miss they way it used to be and when music was music and not the crap that it is today. But life is a gift and there are better things ahead. Would be happy to talk about it more if your interested
Miss the days when you could look like this and still be a musician..Today only pretty young kids are in front of camera...Nice to see some age and character in the songwriter/performers face....Today these guys would be songwriters writing a beautiful song like this for Justin Bieber to sing to swooning, screaming teens...Sad...still great song..great memories..btw..MAJOR props for singing live(apparently)...on a show like Solid Gold...Only seen lyp sync on that show.
This song was one of 3 songs in a row that played on the radio on my way home. The other two were Woman right down the line and Together. Gosh music from this time was awesome! 🥰
Back in those days, there wasn't this thing called instant gratification when it came to entertainment. We had weekly programs on TV and had to wait to see the next episode or the next show, like Solid Gold. But, oh god, it was worth the wait!
I feel I owe you and honest explanation, "Zick". This appearance / performance was a total lip-sync and the reason was, Solid Gold had no facilities in their studio that would allow for a live band performance. We were instructed to provide an audio tape to the preproduction department prior to our appearance. The show producers naturally wanted a known 'hit' by the group and "JRILY" was chosen. This presented a huge problem because #1, there was only ONE original member left (Jock, playing the blue guitar), and the new lead singer John Sambataro flatly refused to lip-sync to the original singer Rick Roberts' voice. We tried to get Atlantic Records to send us a mix minus vocal from the original album master tapes, but they refused. Problem #2 was, we had NO recording of the 'new' band playing the song. So, the night before the show, we had to go to a recording studio and cut the whole song from scratch - which we did and we were on the plane later that night to Los Angeles with tape in hand. I think if you compare the original album recording by the original band with ours (done in about 3 hours' time; instruments, vocals, everything), you'll agree that it holds up pretty darn good....
This might be the only time in the history of Solid Gold that a band actually played live. I wonder how Firefall was able to pull that off. I always watched the show during its eight-year run and don't remember anybody playing live, ever.
They actually played to a track that was recorded the day before. My Dad didn't mind performing the song but wasn't going to lip sync to Rick Roberts voice. They went into a sound studio the day before, recorded and submitted it. Then lip sync to that 😊
July 15th 2019: at work, little stressful and i came across this video. Thank you. I was 10 yrs old when this was on the radio. For 2minutes i remember being a kid, i remember my childhood, my mom.
One of the drummers, Michael Clarke, dated my sister, Barbara. We had him over for dinner in Ft Lauderdale, when I was a kid, maybe 15. So that maybe 1979-80. I remember him just starring at my sister. I think I giggled about it. My sister is 9 years older than me. He took her out to Colorado for a few months. Out of the blue, he showed up at our house around 1982 and proposed to my sister. I’m not sure why she said no. They hadn’t seen each other in about 2 years. It may have been his drinking. I can’t remember. I’ve been a fanatic photographer all my life. Im sure I got a picture of him and my sister. I’ll have to look through the thousands of negatives I have in that period. I’m sorry he passed so early. I’ll have to tell my sister. She doesn’t have a computer and could never figure out the Internet. She’s 64 now. I’m sure she’ll be sad.
This is the best song every written. I’ve heard the Beatles, the BeeGees, The Beach Boys ... Beethoven. I’ve heard it all. This song is unreal the way it talks about shit and love.
Saw em in New Orleans, my junior year of high school, when music, musicians and writers were real. Tnx guys for an incredible concert and Everyone was singing along. A beautiful time to be alive
Firefall classy Song up there with the others indeed blend of ballads with Rock they do vibes space age 70s had and head into the 80s words to describe list is endless. We grow old with this it suxs tho getting old omg scary yikes gosh who would have thought in its 40s and 50s
song hits home everytime I hear it our dear lil dachshund Daisy suddenly died of a blood clot in front of us on 7.24.2022 while this song was playing on the radio....we say it's Daisy's song everytime we hear it now..and always brings tears..saw them in concert last year they are awesome.
Patty Chambers Sorry Patty ! I think the recorded version is far superior to this by a long-shot! The singer sounds somewhat "bland" and doesn't carry any feeling to the song!
A nice, easy listening song. But my favorite Firefall song will always be Strange Way (To Tell Me You Love Me). I love the flute parts which are missing in this one. The sax doesn't stand out enough.
The more I hear the new stuff they call music the more I keep going back to my time in the 60,s and 70,s to listen to real music that touch the soul .
Timeless, right?
I concur, except that I want to add the 80s to that list too and even many young people agree with us.
Watching Solid Gold on Saturday night made my childhood so much better

WKRP and Solid Gold were my two favorite shows.
I just think this is the most beautiful song ever. I will always stop and appreciate it every time I hear it.
Cheryl, I had this going on in my head today. Reminds me of Still the One, and What you're doin' doin' me with your love, songs I was hearing while driving in LA in the '80s.
Also, You are the Woman, which I see in the Queue. These are all classics, speaking of which, Classics Four and Traces of Love.
@@robertfeinberg748 ABSOLUTELY..there is a feeling with these songs that you kind of cannot explain.
So grateful that I grew up
@@michellerjackson5776 Michelle, you're Still the One!
i concur
John on lead vocals AWSOME and whole Band as well.
I was 20 in the 70s and now 70 in the 20s. The greatest decade was, without a doubt, the 70s.
GREAT SONG !! FANTASTIC GROUP !! THE 70'S HAD SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC !! LOVE THIS SONG 💙💙💙💙
Rite on
Had to absolutely buy this on 8 track in 70's

I grew up in a cult. My times sucked. I think the entire point is to listen & hear/believe the lyrics of this song.
2023 and I still play this fantastic track over and over. 🎶💞🎶💞
It's a magnificent tune indeed
Me too
Got through many hard moments with this song- this is when music was good!
I miss you Bob Gaffney.. Great job with this music.. blessings in heaven
What an utterly lovely and beautiful song. Wish I was that age again, when it first became popular.
Hello, how are you,i hope you enjoying this great song?
This band is awesome. The lead vocalist puts it into gear. It definitely brings back old memories for sure!!!
Rite on this tune off the chain

What a cutie!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful song by Firefall!!!!! So soothing to the ears!!!!!!!!!! Lovely, lovely!!!
This is one of my all time favourite songs. ❤
Beautiful song..😎
I suffered a TBI in a car accident the summer of 77'. I went thru 5 45's of this and 3 phono needles. It helped me a lot.

Great recording of an actual LIVE performance of this classic! No dubs, lip-syncs, 'auto-tune' or other 21st century gimmickery.

If you'd like a real treat, look for "Firefall / Nashville Now". THAT was TOTALLY live, on camera. ruclips.net/video/d6Gy8qtOq3M/видео.html

Mmm....Sometimes it's just enough to hear a song again....

That's really neat to hear. Wonder what she thinks of him after all of these years.
Yes he was drinking heavily all his life, so sad that he left us so soon.
Miss the 70's, good music, good times

Good song the Band still rocks

This live version is way better than the recorded one. Love this! One of my all-time favorite songs. Makes me cry each and every time I listen.
You miss him? What happened?

Patty Chambers Sorry Patty ! I think the recorded version is far superior to this by a long-shot! The singer sounds somewhat "bland" and doesn't carry any feeling to the song!
Respectfully disagree. Rick Roberts' voice was what made Firefall great. This is a cheap substitute and big disappointment.
Thank you, Patty. This was actually a re-record because Solid Gold would not allow us to perform live on air.
My favorite song .A+
I like the little guy he's pretty cool he gets with it
There is much truth in the lyrics to this classic song. Adonai

Most Solid Gold live guest performances were lipsynched with the recorded studio version. These guys are doing it live.
Somewhere from 84-88 with that lineup.
Thanks for letting me know
