@@honeygoldfamilyfarm5623 OH WOW! I can't wait to see it. Faux leather :D :D That's awesome! I've heard folks try it not sure if it's holds up as well as on microfiber. Can't wait to hear from you again!
I gasped at how nice this turned out. I have a half leather half microfiber couch that I really like, but 5 kids, a husband, and a bunch of pets on our farm, I need something wipeable.
I inherited some really sturdy couches that were left out in the sun so now the faux leather is peeling. Searched for hours on a solution and stumbled upon this awesome video!! My only problem is they don't sell the Valspar clear protectant anywhere in my town and I can't order it online. Do you have any other recommendations on clear protectants? 🤔 I really don't want to get rid of these coaches if I know I can fix them up myself! 😔
What kind of paint are you using? Valspar? Interior or exterior? Flat? Satin? Acrylic? Also could you clarify, you say 3 coats before applying the leather effect. are those 3 coats just paint without fabric softener? Do you add any of the Valspar sealer to the mixture? I'm thinking I might test Zinnser Peel Stop or Lead Defender Sealer, maybe as a finisher. Great technique and video!
Wow, I've never heard of doing this before. I don't have this issue with our leather couch (our leather looks good, but the couch has lost it's firmness and not comfy anymore). I'm saving this just because it was so cool!

Hi Lily..... out of all the videos I've watched you made me feel confident and comfortable enough to try this. I have a cream-colored Microfiber sectional which I love except everytime my drink sweats and it drips on couch it shows a watermark and then when I try to clean it then I have a bigger Watermark, it's like I have to shampoo the whole couch every time just to get rid of one watermark!! So I wanted to paint it, and I'm a stickler for following directions to a T. I'm using exactly the same products you mentioned and I'm at my first coat and it feels crunchy and I'm kinda freaking out....so I'm hoping when I get the second coat and then the third coat on things will change. I keep re-watching your video to see if I am doing something wrong.... was your test swatch only one coat?
Great video!! What color and brand of paint did you use. I bought a faux leather couch with super glue on it and.just can’t get it off. So i am going to paint it. Thanks you are amazing, Suzanne
😬 Thank you Chalice! I wish I could host like an open house or something so you guys could actually see and feel the couch! I still can't believe it feels so soft!
Hi Beverly, thank you. I'm happy to hear you liked it. The paint on the couch is still holding up really well. I haven't noticed any cracking or peeling. Still looks just like the day I painted it. :D
I painted my microfiber lounge chair according to your directions pretty much. I mixed latex flat paint with fabric softener. I mistakenly bought Downey ultra, which is very thick. I used it anyway for the first coat. It was easier than painting, wood furniture, and covered very well. Although the texture was a bit rough but flexible. No cracking at all. For the next coat, I mixed in thinner fabric softener and added a bit more 1/2 cup fabric softener to one and a half cups of paint.. this is what I used for my second and third coat. My chair is absolutely beautiful. Looks like a brand new leather chair. But feels still a bit rough. I think it would’ve been better if I used gloss paint instead of flat. It’s so opaque. What do you suggest I use on top of the paint? My chair is thoroughly dry after 2 days. You mentioned clearcoat.. what is it, paint? Polyurethane? Please respond ASAP.
I would go over it with minwax polcrylic. They have it in any sheen. You can do satin for a more natural leather feel. If you want it to be waterproof you can do gloss polcrylic and satin over the gloss. I did this to seal my dinning table and we never get water rings. Try a small area first and see how it holds up before doing the whole chair! Congratulations on your project! Your chair sounds beautiful
@@diylilyardor3435 I did use a semi gloss poly acrylic water-based clearcoat. And I added the same ratio of fabric softener to it. This worked very well to make my chair wipeable. Thanks again for your instructions. Of all the videos I watched for painting fabric furniture. Yours and one other had the best info on painting microfiber.
Hello your couch is BEAUTIFUL!!! I like the clear coat effect how much do I add. Im going to paint my black .How much paint ,clear coat and softer ? My couch is like the same size.please help me out ,thank you so much☺
Hi Brenda, than you so much! I talk more about all the paint and clear coat on the blog. You can check it out here- www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/ If you try it let me know how it goes or if you have anymore questions 😊 cant wait to hear back !
!!! Literally have a same color microfiber couch that I've wanted to try painting with and have been looking for a way to make it look like leather. This is perfect. Did you sand in between coats? Did you apply a wax finish at the end?
OH perfect! This will fix your problem. No I didn't sand between coats. I didn't do a wax finish it cracks if you do that.. I talk more about why wax isn't a great idea on the blog and what works better. www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/
I wantto do this too, I have a couch in an ugly brown color and want to paint it red. But I am not sure what kind of paint i need to use. Did you use latex paint or acryllic paint?
I have a couple old Lazy Boy Chairs and Couches n the leather " faux" etc is peeling on or rubbed off in sections and trying to find Leather Paint to patch it n due to the colour n amount im going to need really looking close at doing the fabric softener / acrylic paint I have a Brown couch and a Black couch and a few chairs as well seems to be a trend of people throwing away lazyboy chairs at the moment.
I'm not sure how this would adhere to metal. I've never tried it. I would assume it might be to soft for metal and might scrape off easily. You can give it a try. It should work well with other fabrics. :D
Do you think this would have the same effect on other fabrics? My couch is a canvas like material & I'd love to give it a leather look. Btw, your couch turned out beautifully!
I REALLY need to do this to my couch. Urgent question before I do though. We have a pleather couch and half of it has peeled and completely rubbed off with pilling pleather. Do you think I can successfully add some life to my couch by doing this? The structure is fine it's just super ugly and needs a face lift. Also its black... I'm wondering if this method would look ok in black without looking fake. Thanks! Planning this project for next week.
I don't see why not. I haven't tried it on pleather my self however I've heard from more than one person that it worked for them. :) Maybe give it a try in a less visible area first. 🙈
Do you think chalk paint with a fabric softener will work on microfiber? I bought special white chalk paint to transform my olive green soft three years ago and have been hesitating ever since.
Hi guys for more info on the exact paint color and brand I used check out the blog - www.lilyardor.com/paint-your-couch/

I know I'm a bit late to the party. But while using the final mixture did you sand between coats ?
Which paint did you use, I am confused by your video and link which one you used because you spoke of clear coat also? Thank You
I wantto do this too, I have a couch in an ugly brown color and want to paint it red. But I am not sure what kind of paint i need to use. Did you use latex paint or acryllic paint?
I have a couple old Lazy Boy Chairs and Couches n the leather " faux" etc is peeling on or rubbed off in sections and trying to find Leather Paint to patch it n due to the colour n amount im going to need really looking close at doing the fabric softener / acrylic paint I have a Brown couch and a Black couch and a few chairs as well seems to be a trend of people throwing away lazyboy chairs at the moment.
wow, great job on painting it :)
Thank you Jess :D D:
I'm definitely going to try this! Would this technique work on other surfaces? I have a metal table that I want to paint.
I'm not sure how this would adhere to metal. I've never tried it. I would assume it might be to soft for metal and might scrape off easily. You can give it a try. It should work well with other fabrics. :D
Wow! 😍 You are amazing!!
SO happy you liked it! Thank you 😘🤗🤗🤗
Nice job!
Do you think this would have the same effect on other fabrics? My couch is a canvas like material & I'd love to give it a leather look. Btw, your couch turned out beautifully!
Great video!!!! Do you think this would work with a different material other than microfiber?
Yes it should. I probably wouldn't do it on velvet but, you can always try it out on something smaller and similar first. :D
You used flat paint for the den correct? And how many coats of top coat did you use? Trying it this week (: great video!
This is a great discovery !!! Would this work on suede?
YEs it should :) I would try it on the bottom of the furniture first :D
@@diylilyardor3435 thanks 🙏
Very very nice. Have you noticed any paint peeling off or cracking?
Thank you 🤗😊 Nope no peeling or cracking
Can you this on a peeling faux leather sofa?
I’m not seeing the info on what kind of paint you used! Was it acrylic or latex paint??
Do you think chalk paint with a fabric softener will work on microfiber? I bought special white chalk paint to transform my olive green soft three years ago and have been hesitating ever since.
