The eight-part "The Mind of Jake Paul" docu-series by Shane Dawson has recently come to an end. In the finale, Shane presented Jake with criticisms from our video, ("Parents' Worst Nightmare: Jake Paul",) namely that he is manipulating his young audience by advertising merch for up to 50% of the runtime of his videos.
Jake responded by saying his merch reminds people to be happy, that concerns about advertising to children are "stupid" and "ridiculous" and that we should "Shut up." Jake claimed that his merch advertisements really aren't that effective, and that a kid wouldn't believe that wearing Jake Paul merch would make them cool. There is a mountain of evidence that indicates Jake was lying to Shane and knows otherwise. He is a sophisticated marketer who owns numerous companies whose primary purpose is to deliver brand messaging to child audiences. One of Jake's companies, TeamXGlobal, offers Chinese brands the opportunity to capitalize on the American Social Influencer.

A while ago my little sister started watching jake Paul. Me and my little sister has always been taught to respect money and really question ourselves if it is worth the money. But when she started watching jake Paul it was almost like she changed.. she somehow convinced my dad that she should buy jake Paul’s merch and a hoodie is VERY expensive. + we live in a different country so shipping is also very expensive. She had saved money to buy a super expensive hoodie which was completely not something she would normally do. When I found out I questioned her about it and the only response I could get from her was “but it’s cool” and “I want it” and she only got more and more defensive about it. When the hoodie finally arrived she wanted to buy more, luckily my dad said no. She got extremely upset about that. But it didn’t take long for her to begin questioning what she had done. She regretted buying it since she barely had any money left. And she never wears it anymore, I don’t even think I’ve seen it in months. Now even she can’t understand why she bought it. Watching jake Paul literally changed her during that time. It’s fucking creepy

Just for context how old was she?
He understands that children will save up/convince their parents, buy the merch, and then grow out of his content. When they do that, they hide the merch in shame. This sounds like a bad move, but actually sets it up so that nobody's complaining or causing issues because shame is a motivator, and the cycle continues. Straight predatory.
Thank you so much for this. Shane distorted the absolute truth about Jake Paul, not to mention Shane himself is so nice he wouldn’t ever REALLY go in on Jake to begin with. During the interview Jake looked like he was trying really hard to act like he was being sincere, but anyone over the age of 25 should be able to see right through his BS.

Shane definitely is not someone who should be interviewing controversial people and subject matter. From this documentary and tanacon documentary, we all learned that he is incapable of being unbiased and asking the hard questions and seeing through the subject’s bullshit.
From what I've seen from his content, he's a good guy, albeit spineless. He DEFINITELY isn't suited for the content he chose to focus on, but that's where the money's at.

As the video showed, no, it's not. If given the time to write a script, he can actually be pretty damn clear and coherent. Off-the-cuff, he's less clear, but sh*t, so am I. So are a lot of people, even people who are otherwise good communicators. Speaking takes more brain power than typing, in the coordination sense, leaving less to use on things like making a clear point.

I actually did not buy the entire series. I love Shane but he is not a good narrator, let alone a good interviewer. He set out the rule of "if he lies, i'm out" but he has no one with a sense to point out the lie of this dipshit. All he has going for this is himself, Andrew and a "licenced" therapist who works mostly on eating disorder and sticks to her book of symptoms as the Bible. He got emotionally attached to Jake (just like every person he made his docu-series) and went with the fixer role. And just like any good girls want to turn the bad guys around. You're already known the answer.
Yes, knowing someone's root can answer a lot of questions but what we need is not explanation of the actions. We need to point out that these actions are not appropriate and nothing, nothing else can be excuse for that, except, Jake Paul, you my friend, is fucking greedy and manipulative. It was really surprising; the way he faked being a total idiot in front of Shane, speaking like a high-schooler. And even though Shane's theory of Jake being a 'sociopath' seemed overly exaggerated and silly initially, I'm starting to think it might actually be true. I don't think anyone could be that oblivious or dumb, it's definitely something more sinister.

Shane beguiled his fans thinking this is a negative expose on JP but clandestinely tried to humanize him, without Shane properly investigating him or asking/pressing Jake about the egregious things he has done. What happened to the clip where Shane says "Im worried he's not going to know what this documentary is about?"

I don't even know what the documentary was about. After 8 parts I sat back confused, when it ended I actually checked if it was a mistake or something. I literally can't find what the point of the series was, it lead to nothing.

The second that he got an actual face to face meeting with Jake (or Tana for that matter) should have been a massive red flag to fans that this would be a whitewash. "Brands" are EXTREMELY protective of their image and Jake didn't become rich by being stupid with his, he knew what image Shane wanted to paint and was ready for it

I've liked Shane from the start but his 'doco-series' are just garbage. The only thing he has going for him is his access to these hot-topic people.

He covered the remaining 97-96% by saying "Boohoo.. who cares.." literally. It's funny, I'll give you that.. but it's far from being called a masterpiece.. if we have to compare this to a content cop for example.. or Gokanaru's video about H3H3.. this is pretty shitty.
ReallyUnexplainable it doesn’t cover most of shane’s documentary because most of the doc is either drama between creators or fluff for entertainment, neither of which have anything to do with the direction of this video. i’ve seen every video you’re referring to here and i genuinely do not think that, in terms of conciseness and depth of research, any of them rival what this video is able to do. content cops are great and don’t get me wrong i love them and they’re very well made, but by nature they don’t hone in on one specific facet of criticizing a person and instead usually are broader strokes and thrive on the already established public distaste for a creator. nerd city is fleshing out this one specific part of shane’s doc that they believe to be the most flawed and important (as do i) and are debunking it in a more concrete, factual, and undeniable way than any other commentary piece i’ve ever seen on jake paul or literally anyone else. this video doesn’t rely on anything but the evidence it presents, no funny insults or retorts necessary. and i personally think that that’s something only nerd city has pulled off this well, in this video and most others on the channel.

I completely agree. Lets just make it clear, Shane MILKS such content very much and really well. Building the hype over it for days and maybe weeks. Make a series of 40+ minutes per video. So every video gets millions of views. This is the absolute heaven for content creators to make money and for someone like Shane who knows what YT algorithm wants to even promote it more (so many views in a short time and a long video = very long watch time). And at the same time, the influencer, like Jake here, benefit from the soft tone and questions of Shane.

It’s been ten months and Jake is still building his empire. This makes me so mad. I hope karma gets him good.
Sure he's living life on easy mode right now, but it can't last forever. His boyish good looks allow him to get away with his antics and still capture a young audience, but as he gets older kids won't want to watch him anymore and some other clown will take his place. He will also become less able to easily dodge responsibility for his shitty behavior. When at last he loses grip on his popularity, I doubt he'll have the self-awareness to realize that he never curated the skills needed to create content with lasting appeal. Then maybe he'll stage some desperate stunts to stay relevant before dropping in obscurity.

The fact of the matter is that what he is doing is literally illegal, he chose his target demographic of young children, aged "8 -16" although being honest its probably averaged at lower than that and almost every video is over 50% advertisements. 50% is fucking absurd, literally 7 minutes from a 14 minute video is ad reads, that's over double what the law allows in terms of advertisements aimed towards young audiences.
He literally manipulates small children into buying his cheaply made, unoriginal shirts that he can't even be bothered to purchase original artwork for, instead just finding shitty clip-art from the internet and plastering on there as if he owns it, which is also against copyright laws as some if not all of the artwork is permitted only for personal use, not commercial; not to even mention that he gives no credit or compensation for using said art.
The man is blatantly scamming small children left right and centre to earn his fortune, and you believe it's all well earned money that he deserves, what a joke. Imagine somebody spent 5 years planning a bank heist, something that takes countless hours of work, and a hell of a lot of intelligence, do they deserve the money that they illegally took from other people? I came back to this video after a few weeks of living in the preview of new RUclips that awaits for us in 2020.
And the sad thing is... RUclips has gotten the consequences of Jake Paul's actions, but everyone except from him, is suffering from the punishment.
With the new COPPA regulations, a lot of videos that are not for childrens are being marked as such by the broken algorithm that RUclips implemented. But the MAJORITY of Jake Pauls videos that are CLEARLY for childrens are left alone, showing, once again, youtube's favoritism for the Pauls. I just hope that they sue his ass in 2020 or all of this trouble will be for nothing.

No what Shane did was make an entertaining piece, where he pretended to care, when you do that, the subject tends to let their guard down. Watch Louis Theroux's work to watch the original master at work. Shanes acting was over the top, it was never meant to be deep, but tongue in cheek.
The problem was Shane saying Jake didn't know right from wrong with his aggresive advertising to children 24/7 , he clearly did, the proof is in everything he touches, for Shane not to research that and shove it back in Jake's face is poor journalism period.

I don't think Shane realizes the importance these series have. It might not have been important to prepare better and do research with the Jefree Star one, but Tana's and Jake's should have been done better. Jake's series lacked structure from the start, it was done too much to entertain, and it wasn't taken with all the seriousness it should. I think in the future he will regret not doing a better job.

He managed to get Jake Paul on his channel and speak directly addressing the issues. He wasn't going to be able to do this if he was incredibly critical the entire time. Logan Paul doesn't even want to take the risk because Logan just allowed people like NerdCity to be able to call him out the more he speaks.
@@jonathandpg6115 Personally I would prefer a more critical look and more research. The series was messy from the start, because he started filming, editing and uploading, without knowing how it would end, or even knowing what the whole thing was about. It's nice he filmed from the start, because then you see the process, but once he had everything filmed, he should have re-structure everything and edit everything before uploading.. so that it would have make more sense from a storytelling point of view.
Idk, I just think he missed the opportunity to make a more compelling story with all the footage he had and the attention he is getting. If you compare it to Jefree's series, Jake's wasn't as planned out, the 3 first episodes are a mess in my opinion, you can't layout the whole sociopathy foundation and then forget about it. That is not good storytelling..

Meanwhile in shane's video he was acting all dumb and innocent. And Shane apparently bought it, because he felt the need to explain to Jake why what he does is wrong..

Why is everyone being so over protective of shane? I get that he does not have ill intentions but he is an adult and has shown to make more rational decisions as compared to jake paul. So shane does know what he is putting out and how he wanted to portray jake paul which was to make us feel bad for him by dismissing the manipulating children to buy merch as well as other sob stories. Therefore, shane dawson is actually part of the problem here.
He's an original, older part of the problem which has stayed the same youtubers are amateurs there is nothing wrong with that but they make pretty disposable work but due to the nature of it make insane money which gives them more reach. But notice it's so rare for any of them to manage to stay relevant professionally or produce quality work. Shane made a shitty movie so he scrapped getting better and went back to vlogs, the Pauls are at least honest about how they get disposability and advertising

The fact that Shane didn't even really press Jake at all about "the bad things he did" to Alissa, namely sleeping with other girls constantly while throwing a fit if she so much as flirted with a guy besides him, really made Shane look awful honestly. Not a Jake Pauler at all, but I could see where his mind would separate advertising and manipulation for children (even if the law doesn't separate the two for TV and movies). It's possible he doesn't see why it's so bad to advertise that way to kids vs doing so for adults. Whether it's a lack of empathy, perspective, intelligence, or whatever. He could just see advertising as advertising. "I'm just trying to sell shit to make money, not hypnotizing kids and shit like you're inferring when you say the word manipulating!"
He could also just be lying and bullshitting. That's very possible as well.
@@darkriku12 Advertisement is manipulation. Its about incentivizing and convincing the viewer to indulge in whats being shown. Manipulating people is a core aspect of advertisement. So if your target demograph is children, and you're advertising to children.. you're trying to manipulate children. Thats why regulations on child advertisement is so much more serious and strict than it is for adults.
He definitely knows the difference, as just like this video has shown, he has a strong understanding of how this all works and who his target audience is. Thats part of the reason he's so successful at it; its not dumb luck
