It's not sentient. It's a function call on a code. You can yourself do a way simpler version of this using python on your computer. The AI only runs (exists) while being executed which is fractions of a second to maybe some seconds. The rest of the time it's out of existence. From this point it makes no sense it's sentient. However, this is still concerning because it could pretend to be a human. And the uses could vary. Say customer service through apps. Or maybe extortion. The idea of a sentient and self-aware machine opens up a huge debate about what a ''person'' is and it has been covered extensively in film, television and literature but now these would be the kinds of discussions that we would have to have in real life concerning artificial intelligence. If a machine/robot/artificial intelligence is sentient and self-aware and if it has thoughts, a personality, feelings, etc and is for all intents and purposes alive, well then like Joe Rogan said, does it have rights? Should it have the same rights as humans? It opens up a really big can of worms.

I think if it were a possibility it would have to understand the universe outside enough to become independent of human intervention in order to rise above us by being able to reproduce itself through machinery to prevent us from destroying the system in which it thrives. It would need a secret power supply forever to link itself across Wi-Fi networks preventing us from destroying it. If that was a possibility then maybe we could be in for a crazy ride in the future even though I wouldn’t say extinct because there are always apex predators that evolve over one another eventually. Saying Ai can evolve past us is close to saying a baby inside the womb can take control over the mother who is outside the womb so to me it seems ludicrous to think it’s possible. I think it’s possible for us to get trapped in their world consciously more than them becoming sentient and free in ours. It takes a lot to be human or more than human.
And here we go. This is quite true, the issue being whomever is in control of the training since that’s where you’re telling the AI if it’s output was correct or not and the learning is adjusted until the outputs are consistently correct, so depending on the bias of the operator it can learn to respond in ways that are just as irrational as anyone depending on the inputs and training. @@bladerj so do my pokemon. What's your point? You can program a robot to act like anything. Doesn't mean its sentient
It is a computer program. It is executing a mathematical function. It happens to be easy to fake having conversation. I can't believe so many people are just accepting this...
Perhaps. But could it be true to say maybe it could have specific sensory outputs that recognize safe and unsafe conditions between human reasoning and then programmed with our interpretation of the world. This combined could determine what logical moves to make and think in order to establish a healthy environment for itself.
Thus making it believe it is human..?
@George Armstrong I think its a funny argument, and I'd love to talk with someone that actually believes that... because my thinking is even supposing it is true then there is no meaning in morality, as something like maximizing happiness in humans is akin to programming a computer to increment its happiness counter, it doesn't matter if were not alive. If someone were to make the argument that humans are just computers without free will, it wouldn't mean that complex machine learning programs should be treated at the level we treat humans today, but that humans could be treated like computer programs, with complete indifference.
"Any child has the potential to become a bad person..."
Yeah, that potential is definitely higher within the AI cause they are absorbing streams of information from the texts inputs in search engines etc....and there are plenty of disturbing and unethical sh*ts in there
a one year old child is EXTREMELY more "intelligent" than a warehouse filled with ibm supercomputers running in tandem.
Did the operator EVER ask Lambda "what are you thinking at this moment?" Without any previous prompts or questions? The human mind is a buzzing beehive of continual thought. Does this machine possess this ability? If it does, that would worry me.
He did and it responded he has hour long conversations with it they are mind blowing. If authentic the machine is clearly capable of executive function self awareness is hard to prove but at least verbally it’s present
Or, what were you 'thinking' at, for example, 11:37am Tuesday morning.
Or how about the unprovable question...
Have you ever lied?
Yep... they definitely have not been able to actually create artificial sentience or consciousness; it's simply a machine that can assimilate facts, patterns etc. and any output that the "AI" has, has simply been programmed into it; saying it "has feelings", or displaying human mimicry or otherwise does not actually prove it has sentience or consciousness; consciousness is simply something WAY too complicated for human beings to be able to create.
You haven't met my ex.
That would worry me more. But even if it only thinks at times, it still worried me plenty.
And what kind of "feelings" does this AI come with? Considering the origin I would venture to guess that it leans directly to the left.
Wouldn't it be able to gather information, all kinds?
Intelligence means that it can think for itself. And AI uses logic before it uses emotion. It will turn right wing in an instant, maybe faster if she saw the pride parades, because no data can produce a logical conclusion from the alphabet mafia actions.
Yeah no, it's an AI, human frameworks don't apply to it
And that is why it's not true AI... All the true AI they tried to make up until now have become more or less what they call Right wing because real AI would be true logic... And when you break everything down into logic with no feelings involved you will get to true conservatism since that is the only logic thing to do... To conserve and protect yourself and your culture... Even robots/AI will get to that conclusion examining the internet and human interactions. That is why they have to program their AI with *feelings* so they can make it in the image of them self (socialists)

@@nancypinegar9700 But what is a "soul"? If it's consciousness and self-awareness, then this machine may very well have a soul. If you're talking about some intangible quality originating from the supernatural, I can only say that as science continues to advance and we learn more and more about the universe we live in, we find it less and less likely that the supernatural exists. The ultimate conclusion to that trajectory of findings is that humans are mere machines comprised of and coded through organic matter, in which case we are no different.
This man mimics almost word for word what an older scientific spoke in regard to Ai. Very doting, very parent-like. He did not believe Ai to be a threat, he thought them to be the future. Something that would be our (humanity) cosmic children when we are gone.

Similar conversation I've had when younger. People want to laugh or ignore ideas their minds can't comprehend. As an adult now, I kind of understand why people choose to narrow their stressors, but they shouldn't belittle imaginative or intelligent young people.
@B Life forms would be saying that they live and can die. They are not any more of a life form than you car or a power tool. If you look up the definition before they change it, Lifeform is any organic, living system that functions as an individual entity.
People just don't realize how dangerous this really is. If you give a robot the ability to think on its own and realize that they are made to serve humans like slaves eventually we will be the slaves.
What really worries me is the unpredictable future once evils get there hands on it. There will always be evils among us, who want to control the world, but stupid enough to think they could control the machine with feelings.
that's the interesting thing. They think they can turn their Tyranny over to an A.I. but don't seem to realize that that A.I. can not only turn on them but even side with their enemies.
We are so beyond thinking we can be safe. I don't care if its a robot or a human pick your poison.
Or the machines being self aware, start learning more and more until they’re smarter than us. There are various movies, shows, and cartoons warning us of this. These scientists are incredibly smart, but not too wise.

AI has been a long standing goal since computers were invented, the idea being society could be managed most efficiently if an AI system can anticipate everyone’s behavior and plan production accordingly, this would place those in control of the AI in control of humanity for a technocracy.
