Wouldn't a single tower here would be more optimal in this situation? After all, you are still using money by wasting peon's time on defending. Also, you are risking them and you can screw up and let them die. A tower has a ton of DPS and it just counters it hard his strategy which allows you to do what you want while he wastes a talent point and time going to your base.

Woah such a nice move to devour the unit he wanted to teleport xD
I know that you clicked the devour and selected the unit already before the tely came up, but still just such a nice coincidence to watch.
That slow Kodo was just at the right place at the right time, came in really handy. A pity the map isn't bigger so this would have mattered more :D
Also that influx of dryads to that same long ongoing fight is something different.
He really lost some advantage when he did that bad TP bargain attacking into your base with reinforced burrows while you had a free go at his expo with raiders.
I wondered however how you would fare with 1-2 demolishers to target groups of dryads or ensnared ones.
Great job by him for keeping that pressure up so much although he got beat quite a few times.

You tend to spend a lot of energy and time on fights. You keep macroing low HP units from danger and then again into battle. For me it seems that they cannot contribute much into a fight. I personally would cycle them back to base. Is there a reason why you are so aggressive in a fight? When you started fighting him on a map, I would had retreated multiple times to heal up. Grubby however seems to do or die fighting. Even in fights which for me seemed he didn't had the advantage or was even at disadvantage.

Everything that does well vs. dryads gets obliterated by demon hunter, his only chance to win would've been to secure an expansion or tower the NE base at the perfect window of timing when he still had an early game advantage. Once NE has access to Teleport to base & Back with the demonhunter, if the Orc doesn't cement a huge lead before that, the power spike will make the night elf win (as happened in this game)

Orc has alot of spells to click if you don't go mass headhunters
For nelf you have to learn a weird play style early with ancient of war and being pressured in your base as nelf feels intimidating and hopeless.
With undead you don't need much speed early since the base kinda builds its own you only have 5 workers and just one builds everything. Ghouls are woodcarrier but also feel nice to clear early camps with.

Countering dryads with raiders is fun, but you need to have a lot of them. It is much easier to counter with headhunters - they, like raiders, are a natural antidote in terms of armor/damage types, but are not so vulnerable to knitting.
Dryads are the lousiest of all formally "combat" units. They have barely 2 food stats for a 3 food unit. I think unupgraded dryad can lose to the level 2 serpent ward. If you don’t expose your army to dryads strengths and tricks, if you make meaningless their knitting and dispell, then dryads almost useless on the battlefield.

    • @collinpurdy2678
      @collinpurdy2678 2 месяца назад +1

That's just it - with the demon hunter to tank, super easy transition to bears at any point since they share production /upgrades with dryad, huge movespeed of dryad combined with slow poison, staff for additional saves, you can not "make meaningless" the advantages night elf brings to the open battlefield. if you are not able to use early game tempo to secure a lead, you are lost. This large mid-game advantage Night Elf has requires no detailed analysis, it's available in plain sight. Grubby played very well, getting multiple hero kills on the opponent early and killing the expansion right after it was built. If you put Grubby in that same scenario against any Orc or Human player, the game is simply over. Did Grubby still have some chances to win? Yes - but the fact that the path to win is so narrow even with good play is perhaps indicating a slight problem in design

They slow you down, deal poison damage, and make investing in magic pointless. But they can be crushed if you move your mindset closer to StarCraft... Or even Red Alert. Build a large army of range units and crush them. Their tricks are meaningless if you don't play any tricks yourself.

    • @masterexploder9668
      @masterexploder9668 3 месяца назад +1

They are a very cost effective unit unless the enemy has plenty of piercing or siege damage to respond. Magic immune is also a nice bonus, they are very versatile and you can't really go wrong with them, especially vs Orc who is more into beefy melee units. Raiders can be a good counter to them if massed in proper amount, but they are not that easy units to use. Dryads you just A-click, try to kite and make sure you don't get bombed by mortar teams or something like that.
Also NE has staff of preservation to save units/heroes for moonwell healing, I feel that also made a big difference that DH could come back in a couple of seconds with full health bar.
It also seems that NE economy started to take over Grubby. DH and Keeper died a couple of times and expansion got destroyed, but Sonik eventually managed to rebuild it. To be fair he played the matchup well, so my post is not just a straight "NE is imba".

That is an option. Situational maybe and depending on how well the fight goes, but I am leaning towards get the expo.

@@MWcrazyhorse agreed, mass dryad, DH into kotg is a good open field army, and comes with a lot of options to control the opponent - speed, mana, & buffs. So they're a hard army to fight into when you're doing a raider build. But dryads can't kill fortified armour well at all, so why fight the enemy where they are effective. Speed scrolls and town portals are worth getting moonwells killed, especially if pillage is helping recoup the hit and run costs. Even if you can't do hard damage, forcing the elf on base defense opens up orc's opportunity to expand with less threat

@@ambion19 Exactly! It combines well with your own expo.
Grubby hit the perfect timing. Everything was going great. Expand, hit the NE base for distraction. Run or teleport.
There is also the option to go t3 for a tiny hall as you raider lame and hide behind towers.
      The NE cannot stop it.
He can't kill your base. He can't zone out your expo AND defend his base at the same time.
All he could do is try and camp his own expo.
Grubby could add even just 1 wyvern to harrass lumber wisps.
Ne cannot fend off raiders AND expand without having lumber problems.

Raiders will work against dryads if you mass enough of them, but when he started losing in economy he indeed couldn't keep up anymore and got peppered to death. Grubby had to stay low pop to get more gold, expansion allows you to go into higher unit count, but upkeep forces you to look for a brawl.

I'm really having a hard time understanding why Grubby lost. Grubby had such a good advantage early, killed dh couple times, killed the finished expo. Took a small loss in the team fight after ward traded blade with kog, but I don't feel like Grubby did any major blunder, yet the mass dryads strat which was not even supposed to work managed to turn the tide? Was it just because Grubby didn't retrain the SH to lvl 3 serpents?

Sonic had the economic lead, mining some extra gold which translated into more dryads, who are quite cost effective and solid NE unit. He simply ended up peppered with spears to death. Maybe he needed a catapult or SH going snakes, because focus firing DH after he levelled up stopped working. I just feel he needed some ranged options or at least camping with that tower and shop on NE expansion spot. Raiders are good enough with siege damage vs dryads if you manage to get a critical mass of them, but Grubby started to be overwhelmed with number of dryads and couldn't keep up.

I wonder if one forward tower outside your base, once fortified defenses is up, is worth it? It would zone out the sieging dryads and free up mobility around the orc base, and drop any dryad ensnared in range. It seemed once they hit critical mass, there just wasnt enough orc dps to do the job anymore, especially with walkers padding out thst much needed food supply

I do not play this game, but I wonder about strategies. I noticed that in this game it is trivial to tech up and most pro players do it. Grubby for example went straight to T2 without any units. However, my impression is that you should first to reach unit count of 40-50 before you hit upkeep. This establishes dominance and it prevents greedy plays. Only then go for upgrades and tech transition. The idea being that you replace lost units with higher tech units which you want. Preferably after forcing a fight when you have numerical advantage.
Does anyone knows this game well enough to comment on such a strategy? Would work in this game or against what Grubby is doing?
Btw: I did not played this game online, but in general my playstyle back then was to create a swarm with footman and Paladin healing. When I would lack surface area, I would add Rifleman. Only then I would tech up to add human casters as a support. Then again to T3 and start replacing footmen with Knights.
