I have a brother-in-law who has a condo in Kauai, and he is trying to catch bonefish over there in Hawaii. I visited him a few weeks ago and it was my great pleasure to take him a dozen of these beautiful flies to try over there. Yes, I know they are a take-off on the old Crazy Charlie, but these seem just a little more appropriate to give somebody fishing in Hawaii. Great looking flies. Can't wait to see if he has any luck with them.
Very simple, yet very nice! I really like this pattern
Fantastic fly!
Suberb little fly, subtle tan Charlie's work for a great many species here in the UK, keep up the good work!
Another Beauty Fly! Thanks.
Great video
I have been fishing saltwater for 30 years. and it is so funny to see the same patterns I have been fishing all that time turn out with other peoples names on it like they invented it. a Clouser is a Clouser no matter what color or material is on it and the same with so many other patterns like this Koga's Hula charlie. I have been fishing ones like this forever. Just me spouting off a little.
Consider this though. If we were to have posted this video and simply called it a Crazy Charlie we would no doubt be getting comments like "that's not a Crazy Charlie, the original Crazy Charlie had a calf tail wing and certainly didn't have an underbody darkened with permanent marker and mottled with Krystal Flash". I believe the name "Koga's Hula Charlie" is spot on, it pays homage to the original pattern by including the word "Charlie". It gives the name of the originator of this particular version "Koga". And, it even hints to where it's especially effective "Hula".
I mean a snake is a snake but I'd far rather accidentally step on a Garter Snake than a Timber Rattler. Sometimes, specificity really matters.
you are right!
Sweet!
Thanks Jim, great to meet you at the Atlanta Show.
