i guess the fitbit paywall puts these two devices in two different price categories. 80$ per year means in two years use you will pay double the price of the vivosmart 5. this is no small sthing to mention only as a side note. the charge 5 is NOT on the same price tag of the vivosmart. without the premium it serves as a gimmicky band.
I wouldn't say that. Yes it sucks that are a bunch of things behind a paywall, but some people don't need all the data that comes with premium. Also have a GPS built in is pretty big as well. But if data is very important to you than the Vivosmart is the way to go
@@FitnessWithFrost I've seen a review on YT, DC Rainmaker if I recall correctly, which states that the accuracy on the HR sensor goes all over the place if you activate the GPS at the same time, so... basically connected GPS that one also. And yes you're right, data means a lot. These bands' purpose is to motivate people to go out and move, and achieve that goal by showing you data, like: look, past two months you basically sit on a sofa, or look. you're going up in weight since last Christmas, or on the reverse side: hey, you're runing much faster this summer compared to the last one, good job! Please stop validating such a brutal habit of hiding you're own hard collected data under a premium subscription on top of the device purchase price.
It's so stupid what Fitbit does with their subscription model. I really hope they change it. I have heard some people run into accuracy with both the heart rate and GPS active. I didn't run into it myself, but I have heard a couple of people with that issue. The bigger issue with the Charge 5 is the amount of people who have said their battery drains in a day. I've had a decent amount of people comment about that
I do agree with @mommi1979: if to have the same features, you need to pay a premium subscription with Fitbit, then the 20 something price difference when buying is ridiculous ..
I believe another key note to add is the Charge 5 only allows you to preload the band with 5 workouts. Kinda sucks when I want to track a multitude of activities/sports. I have the Charge 5 and am frustrated with that. I read that the Garmin device can hold 10 preloaded workouts? Thanks for the breakdown!
I had a Fitbit charge 5 but lost it. There is no way unfortunately to track it if you loose it. You can only track your phone from the Charge 5, but not the other way around. I am thinking of getting the vivosmart 5 this time. Do you know if it still has the same issue? Also some points I would like to make about the Fitbit Charge 5 is that if you want more data you need to buy Premium membership for around $10 per month. Garmin already includes most of the data free. That is one important turnoff with Fitbit. That makes the Charge 5 more expensive for those who want more info. That is an extra $120 ($10 x 12) in a year on top of the price.
Yes I've had fitbits and any technical problems within the two year EU warranty period and they were replaced by Fitbit. With the Vivosmart 5 the unit popped out of the strap a couple of times after 7-9 months. The second time it could not be found. Garmin customer 'care' were hopeless. 30%;off a replacement model to.have the same again happen in less than a year. No thanks. In summary, Garmin don't care about their customers!
I have gone through 2 charge 5s now. Both have failed the same way, they go black and dont turn back on. They keep getting moisture into them from sweat and I dont wear it in water. My charge 5 is almost out of warranty so after this next one breaks I'll get a garmin.
Same here, charge 5 never worked right. Hanging on to my Charge 4 until forced to quit in early 2025 when Google enforces their log on. Google bought out Fitbit to destroy their competition, a sorry end to Fitbit.
Do you happen to know if the Vivosmart 5 supports run/walk interval alerts ? I checked and it might be customizable with the Garmin Connect app activity settings for the "Run" activity, but I haven't been able to confirm.
Have you had any issues with the Charge 5 losing gps connection? I have seen other reviewers say that the band has to be worn very loose or the gps will not work.
@@FitnessWithFrost yeah I'll give it a chance, it was a pretty useful video 👏🏻 👏🏻 I'm kinda surprised that you felt the sleep tracking even more accurate on the V5, pretty curious about that! My sleep is definitely challenging, I'll test it myself :) basically I like they got focused on hydration feature (that you can track on the device itself) but even more I love the overall Garmin ecosystem.
The Garmin ecosystem is better in my opinion as well. Decent amount of that due to nothing being behind a pay wall. I was very impressed with the sleep tracking on it.
@@FitnessWithFrost yeah, stuff behind pay wall is pretty disappointing, they also removed the basic breath feature that was pretty useful. I'll keep you posted as soon as I'll get mine, thank you again for this video!
Do not buy the charge 5 it is a pile of crap. It will constantly let you down I have returned 3 in 4 months due to locking up completely stop working & not monitoring my steps ,hart rate ect. I have never had such an unreliable device in my life. Absolute rubbish.
@@FitnessWithFrost I heard Google had acquired Fitbit. That will be the end of Fitbit. I got my money back. After going through 3 in 4 months I reckon I gave it a fair go. It really is a pile of rubbish with little to no support or interest in fixing the multiple issues this product has.
Yeah the salt water is not going to be ideal for anything that has any plastic. Even the band and how it connects should be a metal so it doesn't degrade
I just cant treat a review seriously anymore when i hear "it has GPS built in" as an advantage in final conclusions. Have you tested how shitty it works? Have you did ANY research to understand why it will NOT work properly? Cmon.
Holy cow, slow down the talking pace! We're trying to look at two watches while you are talking about the features at the same time. Great review otherwise, thanks!

Some Garmin devices can do it. It is more of a niche use case, but it definitely is helpful for those that need it. I'm glad I could help otherwise

great video dude! one thing it woould probably be good to mention the bars on the garmin are due to camera and do not apear in real life.
Yeah I do need to be a little bit more clear on that. Thank you

Great video mr frost i must say no music control on charge 5
Thank you very much. That is my mistake on the music control playback control.
Have you had any issues with the Charge 5 losing gps connection? I have seen other reviewers say that the band has to be worn very loose or the gps will not work.
I didn't see it in my testing and I tried different fits too. I saw other reviewers with the same issue, but I couldn't duplicate it
Keep the good work mate ! Exactly that’s what I was looking for
Thank you so much! I'm glad I could help
Did you Whoop sleep match accurately to the vivofit 5?
Fairy similar. It did miss a bit of my REM
the charge 5 is smaller? did you mean the vivosmart? (~7:35)
Yeah that was my mistake
Great video. You say that both devices have music control, can you confirm this, please.
Yes I can 100% confirm that both can control your music. Hopefully that is helpful
Buddy you can't control music on charge 5 I've checked on the net bit of a bummer

I hope it is for you!

Must say Vivosmart is a hideous looking device
It's not my cup of tea, but it is a fairly popular device

Please don’t call it menstrual health.
Do you have another suggestion Ecthelion
