    Jessie So very happy for you dear! I was a high risk ultrasound technologist/manager for many many years. The metallic, "penny-like" taste you have at this stage is called dysgeusia, it's very common dear and its from the hormonal rise that happens during 1st trimester of a pregnancy. So what happens Jessi is: when there's a quick increase in hormones - such as estrogen and progesterone, it can change the pregnant woman's sense of smell and taste which tend to make certain flavors seem different than norm or create this continuous metallic taste - sometimes it can be a sour sensation that you feel. Jessi the best suggestion I can tell you to do: try to eat and/or drink citrus fruits or beverages, lemonade. Rinse your mouth with salt and baking soda and of course water, it really helps Of course continue to brush your teeth and tongue and please please keep hydrated Jessi, this is super important. One of the best books out there I can recommend that alot of uts techs and docs recommend is, What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff - it gives you a week-by-week overview or another good book that's been recommended to mothers is, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth for a natural approach to birth or Bumpin': The Modern Guide to Pregnancy. Oh sorry I wanted to also tell you, the excessive saliva you have is called ptyalism gravidarum, which too is a perfectly normal, (yes it can be annoying but it's side effect of early pregnancy also due to hormonal changes. These weird symptoms you're having usually come about in the early stages - they can continue to the end of your 1st trimester but don't worry the won't affect your baby Good thing to have on hand is suck some mints or sugar free gum brushing your teeth frequently, using a pregnancy-safe mouthwash, or sucking on ice cubes or lemon ices or lemon slice at times. Moisturizing your skin will help to soothe your skin if it itches due to hormonal changes that can happen and the stretching of the skin can which will cause dryness and itching Moisturizers with ingredients like ceramides and glycerin can help protect your skin from irritants. Gently massage though while applying moisturizer - it definitely helps relax you. Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter is highly recommended. or Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion is another good one.

      One more suggestion, if you use mints, something with xylitol as a main ingredient is not only good for your teeth (it helps fight cavity) it will help baby too. Just be careful, xylitol is deadly for dogs so don't leave where they can get access too them.

    Maternity Nurse here.
    Congratulations 🎉
    First tip: Once linked to an OB doctor- discuss ANY concerns and questions with YOUR doctor, NOT Dr. Google. Everybody’s pregnancy is different. Your first will be different from your tenth. Listen to YOUR medical team…. Not everyone else’s.
    Check reputable websites like NIH and CDC and American Pediatric Association and ACOG. (American college of OB Gyn)
    Many good books - go to your local book store and enjoy browsing the parenting section- choose 1-3 that are right for YOU! Same for a pregnancy app.
    (My personal favorite is What to Expect When You’re Expecting series, but again there are many good ones out there.)
    Around 20 weeks look at your delivery hospital or birthing center website for perinatal classes - many free ones out there or may be covered by your insurance company.
    Lastly, embrace the pregnancy symptoms…. Yes, even the horrible metal taste, bc it means answered prayers. 🎉
    Best of Luck! Wishing you JOY and Excellent health throughout your pregnancy and beyond. 🙏🏽🙂🎉

      100% agree with this. But if you are worried about chemicals in moisturisers and stuff you put on your skin then I recommend just simple organic coconut oil and a little goes a long long way and doesn't leave you feeling greasy. Coconut oil is good for your skin so if you're concerned about anything just stick to basics xx good luck guys very happy to see all of your heart ache and hard work is starting to work out for you both❤

      I was starting to type something similar, I had endometriosis and PCOS so I had a hysterectomy and never had a baby, but I have stretch marks from really bad periods due to my conditions. Lotions and oils are great but really she should worry more about everything feeling comfortable than what her body might look like after.

    • @cstaszko9927
      @cstaszko9927 4 months ago +10

      Agree. My midwife said there isn't really anything you can do. Maybe you minimize them at best but sometimes you have a big baby (like me) & you can't prevent the stretch. However, I have stretch marks from losing my baby weight when I hit puberty but surprisingly didn't get any while pregnant with a 99% weight/height boy. Go figure!

    • @CKaffeineIVStat
      @CKaffeineIVStat 4 months ago +7

      @cstaszko9927exactly! You should keep commenting that in bold writing stretch marks are a sign of living. And sometimes they appear sometimes they don’t. And if you can have a 99percentile baby and not get permanent stretch marks it’s far less what you rub on your skin and more about luck and genetics and your skin elasticity.

    • @shammyhambone
      @shammyhambone 4 months ago +15

      Yes! Stretch marks are largely genetic so there is not much you can do to prevent them. Maybe you can minimize the severity, but if you are genetically prone to them, no lotion is going to stop them from forming. I wear mine (and my big vertical C-section scar) as a badge of honor after my infertility journey. How lucky am I to have those when I thought I never would!

      And also wanted to add, I've always heard coco butter and aloe being the best for stretch marks. Olive oil would work just as well in my opinion lol. I always rub it on my arms when I'm cooking with it and it gets all over my hands. As far as books to recommend, any book is fine. Every pregnancy is going to be so different for every person that I don't think there is any one book that could cover it all. Which is probably why there are so many books out there and why it becomes overwhelming. Avoiding lunchmeats and salad bars because of listeria is the only thing that stood out the most when I was pregnant.

    • @24Lorn
      @24Lorn 4 months ago

      @chinacetacean What an awful take. Partners of all genders endure suffering themselves, when their loved one is going through something so hard. Besides, they're BOTH going through this journey, and they're both responsible partners and already extremely invested parents. I know that some behaviours should be expected by your spouse, ... on the other hand, nothing, NOTHING tops the gratitude for experiencing beauty and true love even in times of suffering, like having such a wonderful life-companion. Men or Women. It doesn't matter. A healthy family, a healthy relationship is not something we can take for granted.
      One thing is to be satisfied with the very least; one other thing is being grateful for something so beautiful.

    What to expect when you are expecting. Great book. Cocoa butter for the stomach!!! I was just like you. After 9 years of trying, we decided to do IVF. I had to switch doctors at around 11 weeks. My OBGYN saw me once a month and every week at the last month of the pregnancy. My twins are now 10! I am so so happy for you! Actual tears for people that i don't personally know. 9:55 Definitely moisturize regularly, but still manage your expectations. Ultimately, how many stretch marks you get is dependent on genetics. My sister got gnarly stretch marks, and my best friend didn’t get any with all four babies, and all of them moisturized regularly.

    Huge congratulations! Such wonderful news. I also has the metallic taste and increased saliva with one of my IVF pregnancies. It was awful but did disappear around 10-11 weeks. Interestingly it was with my frozen embryo transfer and not my fresh!

      When you are considered high risk you should be seeing a specialist all through the pregnancy. You should be having regular visits for measuring and progression. Hopefully they will do this for you
      The doctors you're seeing now should be recommending a doctor for you also your insurance company. They should not be leaving you hanging like this! Good luck and God bless! ❤
