The first time I picked a coral mushroom I did research and found quite a few coral mushrooms that were toxic. Also, a good practice if you don’t know what a mushroom is and you’re curious, take it home with you and try to identify it online. There are many obscure mushrooms that are great to eat so it’s worth identifying everything you find if you don’t know what it is
It's usually pretty good advice to give mushrooms a decent bit of salt. Mushrooms are a saturated sponge, basically. Salt helps draw out some of the moisture and gives them a firmer texture.
first, get it right, ALL MUSHROOMS ARE TOXIC!!! that's right kids, all mushroom contain a chemical similar to rocket fuel. It is gassed off WHEN COOKING!!! WITH THE LID OFF!!! or boiling... All Coral mushrooms are "edible", will they make you sick? Yes if you are stupid enough not to cook them properly. Different species have different levels of hydrazine in them, as with all mushrooms. rule number one; YOU CANNOT OVER COOK A FUCKING MUSHROOM, google it. ps, stop using toothpaste that has fluoride in it, it would save me a lot of time.....theregoes15minutsofmylifeIwillnevergetback... God Bless. and remember, there are Old Mushroom Hunters and there are Bold Mushroom Hunters, but you will not find any Old and Bold Mushroom Hunters. iggy
fuckkkk be spelled it wrong but otherwise wasn't joking. yes that shits in mushrooms and also jet fuel..... it's an A not am O but I can't spell for shit so that not hate. damn so dude buddy, how the hell should I cook my medical cubes? I'll look up what temp breaks down my silly and then cook below that forever I guess. damn. I love mushrooms, sad news, they're bad for you.
wait.... IDK if it's in ALL, it's in bottom and Portobello though.... I already knew those where hella bad for you. will someone with a mycology degree please tell me if this deadly chemical is in all mushrooms or not??
I am so fond of you. I used your videos when it was too snowy to trek outside for my survival training class for afjrotc in highschool. Hope you don't mind :) my major and whole class liked you. I just love how much knowledge you have in these things.
Dang, I'm new at this and was just in a state forest photographing mushrooms and now I realize over HALF of the mushrooms I saw were edible! I'm going back there! Thanks!
Thank you for this vid! Nice to see all those colorful mushrooms. I always thought the corals are poisonous, but these seem not. Do you know the latin name of the species you prepared? Greetings from the Netherlands ;-)
I was wondering, do you have to soak them in salt water? We catch morel mushrooms in iowa and we have to soak them in salt water to get the bugs out of them
It must be nice to have a memory that allows you to remember all the details of what you can and cannot eat...I am too stupid to do that.....too many shrooms over the years...I always take a pack full of big Macs when I go trekking...and a fifth of Jim beam.....this helps keep me warm and fed on long hikes.....and I don't worry about bears...they like Jim beam also....it has saved my sorry azz numerous times.
What?? No gwaaa---vy? 😄 (I like to add some green or sweet onion and finely chopped mild garlic with some brown rice,...mmmmm. I am starving....) I wonder what part of the country this is? I have oodles of mushrooms in my woods, but I can only positively ID a couple. I found a patch of reishi that I need to go gather, now that I am sure of them 😁 Thank you.💖Much Love🕊Many Blessings🌟
Hi nice video but where I am there are many look alike to the coral fungus and one must carefully examine the branching at the tips in order not to make a foolish mistake.
If the puffballs are not white on the inside, am I to assume they are the poisonous look alike? I haven't picked any. This is just for clarification. I wasn't sure if that's what you meant or if you meant that when they turn brown in the middle they have gone by and are no longer edible.
You can have a few number of things. The possible Amanita she is referring to will have the basic shape of the mushroom inside its egg when you cut it open. Scleromderma is also a possibility, it would be black inside.
informative video. you handled the unknown (possibly poisonous) mushroom immediately before pulling up the mushroom that you were planning to eat using the same hand. shouldn't you clean your hands after handling unknown (possibly poisonous) mushrooms?
I just want to reiterate what Yee Haa said, you can't be poisoned by handling wild mushrooms, even the ones like Amanita Virosa or others. You'll only be poisoned when you actually eat the mushroom.
Anyone else enjoying a new flush of Polyporus squamosus? Pheasant Back, Dyrad's Sadle, the common names. A great tasting mushroom, but you need to know a few things to enjoy them on the plate.
There is one poisonous coral mushroom but it stains brown or something. There's another one in the Pacific Northwest but it's actually a jelly fungus. Like he said do your research.
nice video. You can wait until mushrooms are almost done to salt and you wont pull out all that water that dilutes your flavor. Noticed everyone commenting that not all corals are edible, are you still kickin"?? LOL
Went to a Euell Gibbons lecture way back when while I was in college. The one thing I came away with was don't eat fungi. He said the risk is not worth the return. When we were in high school we'd go out and pick psilocybin mushrooms. Man we were dumb. Nothing quite like puking your guts out while your tripping.
I almost died from eating poison mushrooms as a kid back in the 40s.... However I love mushrooms.... I am very careful what I pick out of the wild..... I really do enjoy your videos....
The good edible coral is a white one that grows light brown with ageing (sparassis crispa). I wouldn't eat the bright coloured ones. Not very dangerous but not pleasant to eat either.
To everyone watching. Don't rip a mushroom out of the ground or right off the stump or tree. Take a knife and a small pair of scissors. Cut the stem of mushroom. That keeps less dirt from getting in your basket and helps insure that the mushroom will grow back next year. There are some dangerous coral mushrooms as well. If u are a beginner never watch a RUclips video and decide to go mushroom hunt. Find someone in your local area who is an expert and they can show you the ropes. Always cook all mushrooms as well. The cellular walls of the mushroom (chitin) needs to be cooked so it will break down, otherwise the mushroom could be tough for your body to process.
that is a myth. They are not plants, they are mushrooms. The stem you leave in the ground will just rot away. The only way to ensure the mushroom will grow back is to not cut down the trees it may coexist with, and to not shovel out the ground where the mycelium networks are. the mushroom itself is but the fruit of the mushroom. much like you would not hurt a tree by taking its fruit, or cutting apples in half from the tree and taking only those, leaving the other half attached.
@louiseleu I made this comment when I was first started out, haha. I had read that it was toxic. Some Ramaria species are edible, but a few are mildly poisonous.
I enjoyed this and have something to research now from looking threw the comments. also don't eat button/ Portobello mushrooms.... they're insanely toxic.
You aren’t a responsible mushroom hunter! You supposed to cut the mushrooms at the base of the stalks, leaving the roots intact in the ground, not plucking the whole thing out of the ground! You want to leave their roots in the ground so that they can regenerare and produce new mushrooms!
He means well I’m sure but there’s a good amount of bad info in this video. Do research. Be certain. Most mushrooms won’t kill you but a few can and a lot can make you sick. Mushrooms are awesome just do your research and stay safe
+Bobby Harper Mushrooms are wonderful, they do actually have protein, excellent antiviral/antibacterial agents and are a clean sustainable source of food. try a few of the famous wild ones like chanterelles and the flavor will blow you away. :)
+Bobby Harper Yeah they don't have tons of protein but they do have some nice proteins. Mostly carbs though. They have good trace minerals and phytochemicals. They also do all contain muscle-wasting toxins, though one would have to eat copious amounts for them to have a negative effect. Ironically, ones that are known to have more medicinal value (shitake for instance, which among other benefits can lower cholesterol loevels) have higher toxin-content. So I've read anyway lol.
butter doesn't make you fat. sugar and shit like that does. I literally have abs and eat hella butter..... I was shocked by how much he used though too.
「mαѕquєrαdє」 moderation and eating organic are key imo. I'm sure too much is bad, but unless you burn it, I understand butter and the cholesterol in eggs are both really good for your brain.... might not be right, I heard that on a healthy talk radio show a long time ago.

Yet another great video Josh! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your next one.
Nice video. gave me a craving to fry some mushrooms up. thanks for sharing
got to get a field guide for mushrooms, I could eat them all the time. Great vid man, much appreciated sharing wisdom. keep it real
Gotta love the shrooms, great nutrition and knowledge to have when your out in the woods. Thanks for the upload
I guess I need to do a walk-around again! I haven't seen any chanterelles since early summer but sure did love them then!
It's usually pretty good advice to give mushrooms a decent bit of salt. Mushrooms are a saturated sponge, basically. Salt helps draw out some of the moisture and gives them a firmer texture.
Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge! I look forward to watching more of your videos;)
Great video! Thanks alot for the upload, you're a very good teacher
not all corals are edible and some are in fact toxic.

did you not believe me? Hydrozine. that is the chemical in all mushrooms. um, why would you ask a question like that after my post?
rjiggy07, do you think I ought to cook my cubensis?
fuckkkk be spelled it wrong but otherwise wasn't joking. yes that shits in mushrooms and also jet fuel..... it's an A not am O but I can't spell for shit so that not hate.

COOOORAL !!! THAT CARL KILLS, COORAL!!
Thank you for this vid! Nice to see all those colorful mushrooms. I always thought the corals are poisonous, but these seem not. Do you know the latin name of the species you prepared? Greetings from the Netherlands ;-)
Mother Earth News had some good articles about growing your own mushrooms. But it also teaches you about wild ones.
Do corals associate with specific trees?
Thanks alot I really want to know about mushrooms because I live in Scotland
dang dude, you're a pro lol
I was wondering, do you have to soak them in salt water? We catch morel mushrooms in iowa and we have to soak them in salt water to get the bugs out of them
i find chanterlles in the same area i find coral mushrooms. down slope about 25 yard and I'm on em.
Can you find corals in oklahoma?? If anyone could let me know and what time of year it would be greatly appreciated

I thought some or most corals will give you bad stomachache/diarrhea?

Yellow tipped coral mushroom is toxic 😮
@louiseleu I made this comment when I was first started out, haha. I had read that it was toxic. Some Ramaria species are edible, but a few are mildly poisonous.
its best to cut them. not pick them to ensure that future mushrooms grow.
Alpha Centauri, don't repeat things just because you hear them goes for you too mister.
show your work or hush, mycicelim is very fragile.
don't want to take chances, i rather go to the supermarket. not a big mushroom eater either.
I would never do this on my own. I would need to go with a teacher who could show me.
I did once abd got one mean trip on a batch of them lol
That is a damn good idea
The one after the coral looks like a cortinarious (from its webbing). Don't eat that.
GOOD VIDEO BUT YOU NEED A HAIRCUT BRO
Nothing drives me crazy like hair hanging down when people are cooking 🤮
That doesn't look like a blewit....
I enjoyed this and have something to research now from looking threw the comments.
also don't eat button/ Portobello mushrooms.... they're insanely toxic.

They have no food value so I leave them be in the wild.
they have enjoyment value
Rob Martin Have some lawn trimmings to go with it.
***** Things that live under a rock are a good source of protein and fat. A mushroom has no fat and almost no protein.

Most of those corals u ate are toxic 😂
the first mushroom you took you pulled the root structure out..... big NO NO
Why is Mike handcuffed?
