LIP BALM ADDICTION

  • Lip Balm Addiction
If you apply lip balm multiple times a day or panic when you don’t have chapstick on hand, you may be wondering if you’re addicted to your lip balm
Turns out that lip balms don’t contain any addicting ingredients but there are a few reasons why you may need to continually apply your lip balm:
    1. You may have formed the habit of licking your lips more often because of the flavor of your lip balm
    2. Your lip balm may contain irritating ingredients that irritate your lips making you want to apply it more often
Ingredients to avoid: Camphor, Menthol, Peppermint, Castor oil, Fragrance, Propolis
    My recommendations:
    -Vaseline original
    -CeraVe healing ointment
-Aquaphor (not their lip balm, but their regular ointment)
Finally, if that fails, consider switching your toothpaste! Many toothpastes contain ingredients that irritate the lips!

Hi I’m Elizabeth and I’m a lip balm addict… its been a 25+ year/multiple applications daily habit. About 3 years ago I was going to Disney and needed a lip balm with spf and at the store my only option was Herpicin L and it has SPF 30. Not only did this help me not to get sun burnt, but it feels more like a hard lotion than a balm, and it has not only softened my lips when I use it, But… I have been able to significantly reduce my habit from multiple times a day to every so often or only when I go out! I was embarrassed buying it at first because I didn’t want people to think I got cold sores, but I quickly realized I don’t care what people think (nor should anyone else), and it is the best lip balm I’ve ever used.

As someone who have tried out many lip balms, I can confidently say that vaseline isn't the best kind. I mostly use clear lip balms, and most of them doesn't soak into the skin it just remains there waiting to be smeared dry upon lip's contact with something and thus provide no help for the chapped skin, it felt even worse if small hard dead skin pokes out from the lips. Not to mention, application just look bland and plain on the lips as it doesn't compliment the skin at all, most also darkens the skin like some deodorants does to Armpits. While vaseline is very affordable and might work good for moisturizing certain body parts, it doesn't work best for lips. So I settled for Tender care; although not tinted, it isn't greasy or liquid-ish, even the container is small and adorable but the most important is the product. Although containing no colour the one I'm using) it makes my lips soft and pink-ish proving it's magic in moisturizing, furthermore it doesn't have any sight effects and works wonders.

So yes, I have been picking my lips ever since I was ~7 years old and now I'm 22. It get worse when I'm stress. I pick my lips to the point that the bloods drips down to my neck. TBH I love the pain. It's something indescribable. I think it allows me to focus on the physical pain instead of my mental pain which is stress.
Back to the main topic. I just put a punch of pawpaw Lucas ointment on (by a punch, I mean a lot, like a thick layer of the ointment). So the urge to pick the lips somewhat go away.
But regardless, lip-picking is a habit that mainly triggers by stress so no lip balms can alleviate it.

The only thing that has helped me is anytime I’m about to put on a product on, I make sure my lips are wet with water. The products I use after I wet my lips are aquaphor or vanicream moisturizing cream. And at night I use lactic acid from the ordinary to exfoliate. It’s done my lips wonders.

Turns out most lip balms do more harm then good so I threw away all of my lip balms and after about a week of super dry lips, they were finally healthy and normal. So to anyone else who struggles with really dry lips, please try stopping using all lip balms! You’ll have really awful and crusty lips for a week but they’ll be so much nicer afterwards 🥰
A tip if you’ve stopped using lip balm and your lips are really suffering: put a slice of cucumber over your lips. It’ll help soothe the dryness naturally.

This is actually a big thing with flavored chapstick. The tasty flavor encourages you to lick your lips which can make them more chapped. They also contain alcohols that irritate and dry out the lips (just like you said). Then you use more chapstick.
Chapsticks that have no alcohols or delicious lickable flavors will help a lot. I used to have chapped lips A LOT back when i used a lot of chapstick. I stopped using chapstick (once i figured out their manipulative scam) and my lips stopped being chapped. I just used coconut oil or olive oil to keep them from cracking. Now i rarely need it. Crazy.
It's the same thing with cough drops. They contain sugars and alcohols that act as irritants to make you start coughing again and -shockingly- reach for another cough drop. Use Horehound candies instead. Works 1000x better and doesn't irritate your throat. You can go through a bag of Halls a week or a bag of Horehounds a year. I choose Horehound.

@@69231 I haven't noticed any irritation or sensitivity with SPF in lip balms but my face is a whole other story. I have crazy sensitive skin and every single face product with SPF breaks me out. I just wear giant hats when I'm hanging out at the pool and whatnot. I have spent a small fortune trying to find one that doesn't break me out.

I love lip butters. Once you try them, you can never go back. It’s so moisturizing for the lips.

the addiction is feeling how soft your lips are and never wanting to have them dry again. + vaseline is the only lip balm i use and will forever recommend it if you have super dry lips.

Absolutely not ! Vaseline is the worst . The reason I picked up an "addiction" was because of Vaseline . My lips got sooooo dry to the point that I would have to use it every 10 mins and it also darkened my lips so much . My lips are almost black now and I have no idea how to get my lip colour back 😖😖
I have stopped using Vaseline for a long time now and it has my lips have become a bit better but is still very dark

My mum is addicted to lip balm. She uses the pink nivea lip balm, she can't use anything other than that brand and that certain flavour. She can't stand using anything else. 🤣

I'm addicted to lip balm. My favorite is the cocoa butter lip balm by cococare. I've only seen it at beauty supply stores. If I run out, Vaseline is the way.

I was addicted to Vaseline. Eventually weaned myself off it and realised that my lips weren’t chapped/dry as much. The other game changer was wiping my lips after brushing my teeth. Toothpaste apparently has some ingredients that can chap lips!

succeeded on fighting my lip picking addiction with lipbalm addiction. first i tried the stick ones, only liking blue nivea because it doesnt leave that shell feeling on my lips. then i tried lip butter and oh how i love nivea vanilla macadamia lip butter. but because the only shop here that sell them took so long to restock it, i moved to vaseline and experienced the thing that i concerned the most on why i dont choose em since the start when its basically everyone’s favorite: the product gets under my nails because i need to scoop em. anyway, now im secure with pure paw paw ointment for daily use moisturizer and sebamed spf 30 for sun protection.

Vaseline already sells it’s only form of lip balm. Looks like regular chapstick but it’s just petroleum jely
