    For such a complex instrument it’s nice to see they have constructed them in a way that makes it pretty easy to get in there and do maintenance. Great repair!

      Thanks! Yes, pleasantly surprised that it was all very accessible. The only thing that really surprised me is how dusty it was inside!

    Wonderfully produced video, and very helpful.

    Did it today, worked great! There were a couple more pieces in the way than there were in the video (I have the 88 key stage 3, so probably built a little different), but just meant unscrewing more bits. Thanks a lot!

      @@FrankOlsonTwins Yes, it did. I just wanted to hear again the main points, because I had to repair my Electro 3 again, after a long time. And you made that perfect... 🙂

    Hey, thanks for the Helpful Video!
    My only question is: "Should I use water for the cleaning solution?" I am going to try denatured alcohol with a Q-tip instead and maybe use mineral oil for lubricant if needed.
    I have a Nord Electro 5D-73 with a dead key. As a retired Electrical Engineer and musician, I'm all about DIY repairs. I'd rather not pay for parts, like a $300 power supply, which was the first thing to go. This contact cleaning maintenance would be a great preventive measure and a cost-effective solution.

      I've done a few of these now, and i still use distilled or highly filtered water. You can try alcohol, i worry about removing too much of the carbon from the rubber contact. My goal is to just remove the glossy "buildup," which a wet cotton swab does pretty well...

    Hi Frank, thanks for this vid! What would be your guess when the key stays dead when switching to organ? Just give it a shot or do you think there might be some other problem?
    Mine is a Stage 1 rev B.
    Cheers from The Netherlands!

      It's possible both keypads are dirty. Switching between the two is just a common diagnostic because the odds of both being particularly dirty are less. I'd still open it and clean it up. It might fix the issue but at least then you'll know for sure one way or the other.

    Hello, thank you very much for your help!
    I'm having contact problems with two keys, but I'm having trouble fixing them.
    Can you tell me what screwdriver sizes are needed for each screw?
    thank you!

    • @FrankOlsonTwins
      @FrankOlsonTwins  4 месяца назад

      #2 philips and a torx bit(i didn't reveal what size. Or, a hex key will work if it fits just right. I used a hex key/allen key that fit snugly

    Thank you so much for video !!!
    I just finished it on Nord stage 3 88 and it's work! 😅
    In my instrument the mechanics are a little different, but the essence of the work is the same.

    • @FrankOlsonTwins

      It's unclear exactly what happens. I suspect the constant playing of certain keys creates a shiny "glaze" that no longer conducts electricity. Once the glazed over part is cleaned from the rubber pad, the pad plays again normally. The keyboard I fixed in this video is still working daily in the field, so the issue has not yet returned.

    Is it me or does that capacitor at 1:00 look like it's bulging?

    My nord S3 has lights that stay on even if the option of that light is not active.
    Example: when my organ is off and only piano mode is selected, there are still led lights showing on the organ side.
    It works perfectly fine just an LED light malfunction. Any idea how I could get that taken care of?

    • @FrankOlsonTwins
      @FrankOlsonTwins  27 дней назад

      Hmm, the only thing I can find online is that the ribbon cables could be loose. I find that unlikely though. You might have to send this one to a true Nord technician....

    NS3 88 has more connections, including some on the side. Great video, but I turned around and aborted mission for fear of hurting the instrument as the 88 seems a lot more complex.

    I am having Roland bk3 arranger keyboard . I am also having same problem but in bass octaves 4 black keys are not functioning. And keyboard is also having chord error means when I am playing cmaj chord it shows c min 10/eb. And when playing a rhythm beat the chords section is not in proper way that it should be . I don't know what to do know . Can anyone?

    I wanted to know if I took the spring off from the key it self to clean it off how do I put the key and spring back in place

    • @FrankOlsonTwins
      @FrankOlsonTwins  4 месяца назад

      Not sure. I'd just try to clean it with the spring in place with a small paint brush or tooth brush. I know lots of dust and hair gets caught in the springs, but I think total disassembly becomes a bit tedious/risky.

    Great video! I'm cleaning mine tomorrow. I was going to use ipa but I'll use distilled water now 🤓

    • @FrankOlsonTwins
      @FrankOlsonTwins  8 месяцев назад

      Technically I used a highly filtered water, very similar to distilled. I'm sure alcohol will work fine, I just didn't want to risk any reaction with the carbon pads.

    Which keyboard in the word is free from carbon

  • @sunnypm
    @sunnypm Месяц назад +1

    Seems like we should do the entire keyboard, while it's already disassembled? The rubber like strips look similar to ones I've replaced in Kurzweil Mark 10s.

      Ideally yes, clean them all. But this was a same day repair, and she played a show that evening. So time only permitted cleaning one octave....
