00:56 I enjoy your clarity on screen but I wished that you would have explained more the exact measurements and names of spices you placed into the pot. What you have shown did look pretty easy though. After experiencing and vlogging about it in Spain, I now love kamayan boodle fights! Cheers!
Actually most Filipinos cook by feel. We do taste tests during cooking to determine if it is lacking spices or not, as long as the general rule is observed, that is, it is okay to add little but not too much. By the way, garlic fried rice is simply composed of garlic, rice and salt. It is up to you if you add additional spices to it and how garlicky your fried rice is. I personally want my garlic toasted (but not burnt) and lots of it. I also add pepper to add some kick.
Loved this video!! Especially the end where you demonstrate the actual motion of kamayan! ;) ok and seriously impressed you prepared all that by yourself in a few hours.
"BOODLE" comes from the english word Kaboodle (as in the whole mix of everything) Philippine Army have a lot of english expressions/jargons like bonkie (bunk mates), gademmit (godammit), shabby, etc. The "FIGHT" in Boodle Fight comes from the fact that it's soldiers eating side by side their upper class men, and since the seniors always get the upper hand and more benefits, during boodle fights, lower ranking soldiers can get to the meats first (ulam) and hide it under mounds of rice so their seniors can be left to just eating veggies and rice! That's where the concept of "fight" comes from. ts a fun way to encourage camaraderie among our troops. ♥️ Eating with hands is the traditional way of eating for Filipinos and other Asians. We use our right hand and ideally, keep the left hand dry to use it to reach for the soup bowl and beverage.
Hi Jeanelle! I've been a subscriber for almost a year now and I took a trip down memory lane in your channel. I'm surprised at how long you've actually beeen doing this! And I saw that this is your first video with 100K+ views. Maybe when you reach 1M subscribers, you could make another boodle fight spread but this time, instead of pure Filipino, you also cook foods that represent some of your family, friends and other content creators, as well as the most memorable foods you've had in your journeys! Best of luck!
Kamayan feast is done by Filipinos long time ago using their bare hands when eating but without a whole banana leaf but instead they use any organic materials to use as plate, then this tradition came back when filipino soldiers introduced it through eating it with a whole banana leaf with various dishes on top thus the name boodle fight came from them.
