No way man. I like the piece, but the soloist is what makes this stand out for me.
I think some bars are different from the famous IMC Edition! Naturally always bowings!
Is this an "edition" of the great Maestro Stoll?
Thanks a lot
Min. 5:34 till end makes wanna cry. I hope one day I can play like this.
@samdajellybeenie14 It has a humorous appeal, I admit. I've listened to it more than once---so it must have something to it! =)
@dcco76 To continue. I'm glad you and others love this piece. It's important in a lot of ways besides on a compositional level. It's a integral part of music history. Therefore, even if a person doesn't like the piece, we can still be aware of it's importance--and like the fact that other people really enjoy it. And thanks for answering my question. You are quite logical and articulate. I like that. And I concede that you probably know this particular piece better than I do.
Espero que pronto pueda leer mi libro "avísame cuando despiertes"
esta y la de goiliav son las mejores versiones que esc uhce!!!!!!!!
Это настоящий КОНТРАБАССИСТ!
@kurd55 Personally, I love this concerto (apart from the repetition of mvt.1 in mvt.3). I think it is one of the best concertos written for bass. That being said, I also love the popular violin concertos (Tchaik, Beethoven, Sibelius, etc.) I wouldn't say it is as great as the acknowledged masterpieces, but it is up there. The cello suites are one of my favorite compositions ever, and are a definite masterpiece. I still don't see how this piece is a novelty or how you define a "novelty".

@multifaros Have you heard Koussevitzky play his own 2nd Mvt?
@dcco76 I think it's obvious that Koussevitzky's "inspiration" for this piece was due to the lack of repertoire for basso. Due to that very extensive lack of repertoire, proves that this piece is a novelty by definition. A novelty is: state or quality of being novel, new, or unique. Koussevitzky knew he wasn't a composer by a long shot. That's why he didn't do much composing. He tried to fill a void and hoped composers would follow. Eventually, composers did follow--Hindemith & Druckman etc.
Maravilloso. Donde puedo conseguir las partituras? Para montarlo en la orquesta donde toco! Puerto Piritu!.
Great playing---terrible piece! o_O
Espero pronto poder comunicarme con usted, se le quiere hermano
@kurd55 nah... this piece is great!
@dcco76 Okay. But I need to understand more about where you're coming from. 1st, do you think this concerto is on-par with the great concertos, like Tchaikovsky's, Beethoven's, Schoenberg's, Mozart's, concertos, or even Bach's cello suites? Surely you can't think that all "classical" pieces are equal. Now if you tell me that you believe this Koussevitsky piece is as great as the acknowledged masterpieces, perhaps I can go from there. In other words, how great do you think this piece is?
looks like he listen to old Koussevitzky recordings. but Koussevitzky have a problems with hands while recordings, so this "sliding" not appropriate. However, i like this interpretation))
@kurd55 I don't quite understand how it is a novelty piece. Please explain what a novelty piece is, and how this concerto fits that description. Also, what piece(s) would you classify as a "Non-novelty", and why?
@kurd55 What are you talking about???
@kurd55 You are entitled to believe whatever you wish.I would just like to point out, however, that Koussevitzky premiered his own concerto at age 31. With his illustrious career he obviously knew something about music and how to perform. He knew what music was terrible and what was wonderful. This composition, I will admit, has a big flaw in the 3rd Mvt. but it is definitely not a novelty. A novelty would be writing only for the strings for this concerto. Clearly the whole orchestra is involved
@dbassgabrieltd e tambeim a Chavez nao?
@kurd55 Haha. Still, it's not as bad as Dragonetti's or Botessini's concertos. I think this is alright.
great performance, but theres waaay to much portamento in my opinion... makes it sound like he has to slide to hit the right notes... which i dont think he really needs to!
just my opinion though, this is a great bass player of course!
@dcco76 And you are entitled to believe what ever you wish. No serious analysis class or seminar would characterize this piece as special in any way. Sounds like a novelty piece to me. In and of itself, being a novelty piece is not really that bad, and I'm glad people continue to perform odd pieces like this. However, another strike against it was that it was written in the early 1900's. Sounds like a cheap imitation of Tchaikovsky music written 30 years before!
Link funktioniert nicht. Weg mit dem Mist!
@dcco76 I'm saying anyone with a minor grasp of music literature for this time period knows this piece is a big pile of poo-poo. The playing of the soloist is quite nice, however. I also like the orchestra. But again, the composition is a novelty at best, in my humble opinion, of course.
