I love these little motors. Iʻve owned mine since new in 2008. One time a rogue wave swamped my canoe, and my motor sucked in some seawater, and bent a valve stem. Ordering new parts was easy, and so was the repairs. Just make sure you have inch-pounds torque wrench. Recently my kill switch fell apart, but an aftermarket one on Amazon had her working like a charm in 30 minutes. I highly recommend these motors. Made in Thailand to Japanese Suzuki standards so a nice quality affordable motor.
I give you my highest compliment for a product review! You are to the point with the highest level of mechanical common sense while withholding common subjective opinion... Great job show everyone how a proper breaking should be done and reminding those doubting souls that it's done a certain way for a reason... Drive it like you stole it isn't always the proper answer 🙏 BRAVO! 😊
Steve's the man!! Always passing down knowledge. Especially for us kayak anglers. And today just about every small craft is running a small outboard. Awesome stuff Steve. 😎 🌊 🎣
Great video Suzuki should be paying you.
Steve, those Suzuki motors are excellent! My friend just bought a 300 HP Suzuki for her boat, runs great! Take care and keep making your great content.
I bought a Suzuki 2.5 to use on my Sea Eagle 285 inflatable pontoon boat. These are great little motors for the money. I highly recommend them. I broke mine in like you did.
New toys are always fun
Just bought my 2nd 2.5 Suzuki. Great video, super helpful!
hello i just wanting to thankyou for your time making these videos, i just got a old Elgin aluminum 12 foot boat then found a df2.5 Suzuki motor
i follow your instruction on how to break in motor
,later today will take to lake kaweah in Visalia Cal and see how it works thanks again sincerly Hector
PS my first boat ever LOL
Excellent! I'd like to recommend if I could to spray down entire everything, every crack, crevice, hole, & moving part below the cowling with some CRC fogging oil or WD-40 shower after fresh water flush & wash down. That is my regiment between every use & has served me well over the years to prevent salt build-up or corrosion.
After your first start up session, running the fuel totally out of motor leaves your new motor unlubed and unprotected by running it dry. Probably didn’t hurt it however leaving that step out in the future might be more beneficial.
There is no oil in the gas so it will not hurt anything. During break in you are burnishing and lapping parts together so it will not hurt anything to run it out of fuel.
Great video I am going to purchase a new one very soon and your videos are very informative thanks for doing it !!
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome, Steve
I sincerely appreciate the way you explained the instructions. I am also comparing it to the instructions manual. One question I have is, you never mentioned estimation on speed miles per hour. Although I know different boats would have different effects. In my case I have an eight foot Jon boat. I’m not at full break In yet. But so far I’m getting 4.8 miles per hour at half throttle. I’m hoping by the time I’m done. My Suzuki 2.5 would go a little faster. 6 or 7 miles per hour. I called Suzuki customer service and was told possibly 8 miles per hour. But I doubt that. Any thank you for the video, I watched it several times
Sincerely Roberto
I want to buy a tandem kayak and do the outrigger myself for it. I have a 2.5 and a 6 gallon tank. I can't wait to see how far I can go with it
Steve...do you have a video of HOW YOU MOUNTED YOUR SUZUKI?
Thank you, excellent tutorial, much. appreciated!
Mercury Tech Tip. You seam to know what you are talking about BUT.. Why remove the power head. We don't remove that to replace the water pump. However the drive shaft to power head and shift rod splines do have to come apart. It is easer to R & R the lower foot and put Anti-Seize on both drive and shift shaft splines. While you are there once a year might as well put a new impeller in the pump. For salt water use Anti-Seize should go on every bolt you pull out as well as grease on prop shaft. Even to 4 you mentioned. Just pull them out and put Anti-Seize on them and re-install. Other than that all good tips.
Shoot. I put 14oz of oil in my brand new motor…that was my understanding from manual. Now I know it was only supposed to be 7oz. I hope the motor isn’t ruined. How often do you recommend I drain oil and replace with the 7oz of oil? Is it at all like a car- where sometimes it just needs a tad of oil added rather than full drain and replace, or no?
Ciao, il mio fuoribordo non ha la pompa della benzina, la pompa di questo 2.5 com'è installata? Ha solo 2 tubi uno di entrata e uno in uscita?
It’s confusing when they say put 7oz of oil in and then tell you to fill to the high level. I did 7 at first and couldn’t see an oil level so I went 3/4 and changed it after 5 min idle warm up / 20 min idke in gear .
Sounds like you know motors. I worked at the Boat House and Duck Key marina.
I've been looking at these motors. I intend to use it on a square-back canoe. I transport my canoe on my truck on a rack so in transporting the motor, it wouldn't be attached to the boat. Are you supposed to lay these motors down for something like transport to the water? Do you mount them upright somehow in a truck bed? How would you do it? Thanks kindly.
Do you have any video's on your outrigger set up, is it homemade or is it branded ~ ifso where can i get one?
Im dying for a video on how to change the impeller. I have to do mine :(
Fast forward to 5:30 ruclips.net/video/mJ5sZhRXlEk/видео.html
Take 2 bolt off the lower unit slide it off. Open impeller housing, slide it off the shaft. Swap parts, reassemble. Should take less than 15mins
Around where i live, its hard to find oil for boats. Is it okay to use regular car oil?
Hi Steve.
Your vid is excellent, surpassing factory recommendations.
I just put a deposit down on a 2022 for a great price. I'm looking forward to using.
One thing. It seems you have four Suzuki 2.5 outboards.
Why?
Gear rentals
Hi Steve, I just bought the suzuki 2.5hp for my rev 13 and wondering how do you calculate the fishing trip? Let say 3/4 throttle, how much distance do you normally cover with full tank(1 liter)?
do you have a promo code for the esky rods ?
I thought the manual said 5 minutes on neutral in idle with arrow just by the lowest speed and start position and then 15 minutes in gear (Forward?) in the same speed setting. That's what I did... Hopefully didn't mess it up?
Do you have to use Suzuki oil for the warranty to be honored?
No. Any Maine rated oil is sufficient. Do not use synthetic though as it's too slick and break in will not be fully achieved.
I like your videos, is it possible to have the video with the translator in French, because I have been following you for a very long time and most of the time I do not understand your language, I am French and I live in Mayotte.
Hello fellow Conch, can I purchased the little kicker in town?
is that an expensive kayak?
👍🏻💯
He has the 2.5 Suzuki bone yard there. I see a total of 4. Steve is 2.5 Suzuki Guru!
👊🔥😎
😀👍👏👏👏
is an outboard suppose to be peeing all the time while in use ?
does the pee have to be above the water, or is it ok if it sits below the water
Yes, it should be squirting all the time. If it goes under the waterline, you might want to go on a diet.
Miss those jigging videos.
but i just want to put it on and go , you mean i have to change the oil before ever using it ? well thats not fun.
lmao dont need to do any of this just get on the water and use it lol
