    For an unconscious resident it is important to ring out the sponge, so it's not too wet, to prevent pulmonary aspiration.

      Yesenia Aguilar at my school it says in our packet to use a tooth brush with tooth paste and then to rinse their mouth with 10ml!! My instructor was SO mad. She’s been an RN for 30 years and never has done it that way! I can’t believe the way they want you to put liquid into an unconscious persons mouth here in MN! That’s why I think these state test outs are a bunch of bs.

      @@hailey8941 Using a toothbrush, toothpaste and 10ml is cruel to the unconscious patient! What are they thinking! I wouldn't follow their cruel procedure on a resident or patient!

    I had this skill for my state exams today! I PASSED AND MISSED ONLY 6 POINTS OUT OF 231!! Thank you so much. I don’t live in California and some of the things are different in my state but even just watching your motions and you talking to the mannequin really helped me a lot!!

      Mysvie Hi, congrats! Quick question. Did you have to ring out the water from the swabs?

    • @itsveasworld
      @itsveasworld 4 года назад

      Jacqueline Tapia you have to push the swab on the side of the cup

      Hi! I was tested on mouthcare, lower body range of motion and measuring height.
      For the skills test, go over the steps as much as possible for each skill and check yourself if you forget anything try and add that next time that you practice. For the written for me it was a lot of scenarios and you have to chose the best answer. I hope that helps if you have any other questions let me know.

      what is the proper handwashing technique, a couple of my classmates they failed because they didn't do the handwash properly. We use her videos to wash our hands, did you watch a specific video for handwashing, if so which one?

    • @rosaliaa4875
      @rosaliaa4875 3 года назад +2

      @@tarac647 hi I didn’t look up specific videos for hand washing technique. If you described to me how you wash your hands I can tell you if you are missing anything. A couple of things that you have to be sure not to forget are the time so count in your head, keep fingertips bellow elbows and don’t shake your hands to dry. Dry hands carefully and close the facet with a dry paper towel.

    My teacher didn’t even bother teaching us this skill. He only spoke about it once and left it. Our test is this Thursday and he barely taught us the gait belt and perineal care on Sunday. My class has been watching your videos and teaching each other cause he ain’t teaching us lol

    Awesome videos. However, the unconscious resident should be in the lateral (side-lying) position. In Fowler's position, the unconscious resident is at risk for pneumonia (and hence possibly death in the worst case scenario) via aspiration because the resident cannot swallow excess fluids from oral care. In lateral position, excess fluid can be drained out of the mouth easily since the head is turned greatly to one side.

    • @jenniferlangan478
      @jenniferlangan478 3 года назад

      I think that’s true if you’re actually brushing their teeth. Here she is just performing mouth care.

  • @christinacastillo1201
    @christinacastillo1201 4 года назад

    Aren’t u supposed to get the excess fluid out of the residents mouth with a dry swab?

  • @lilyburt9101
    @lilyburt9101 7 лет назад +6

    Shouldn't the resident be place on a side-lying position, instead of turning her head to the side?
