  • Hello everyone,
A few weeks back, Lawrie got invited up to help out during the Tanfield Railway's Gala for the evening - but he wasn't expecting just how amazing the weather was going to be the next day - so join him as he explores the gala.
A massive thank you to everyone at the Tanfield Railway for inviting me a long. If you want more information on the railway for future events and their stocklist, click here: www.tanfield-r...
The majority of the audio in this video was captured by a Binaural 3D microphone from Audio with Intelligence, which not only allows sound to be captured in such a way that headphone users can really hear where the sounds originated, but they're also super at resisting the effects of the wind -without it, there would be hardly any audio in this video! Have a look at the range here! www.sr3d.co.uk/
A video featuring, shot, and edited by Lawrie.

I’m so happy to see my local railway featured in such a positive way, this was an excellent video and beautifully showed off why I love it so much, especially seeing familiar faces from when I used to regularly volunteer in the permanent way gang before my job working on network rail killed my spare time, and just the novelty of track I’ve helped work on being featured on camera

Glad to see my local featured! It is a gem and has a great sense of atmosphere, probably because it's exactly the same as the past 100 years! 😊

The Tanfield has such an atmosphere. It’s like part of the landscape somehow, as if it was dug up rather than built on top

Thanks Lawrie. Some really great video and audio there. I used to visit the Tanfield Railway and the Bowes Railway long ago when I was working locally. It is really nice to see all those industrial locos working.

Anyone visiting the North East of England, this little railway is an absolute gem. Even on a non Gala day the place is just a delight. You ride in period carriages (not BR mk1s in "drag") the little engines mean that there is real theatre in the way they attack the inclines. The staff are friendly and helpful and just a wander round the Engine and Carriage sheds is a treat. Also, if you are coming from further afield you can combine this with a visit to Beamish "The Living Museum of the North" which is within walking distance (or 5 minutes by automobile).

I haven't been to Tanfield since the 2017 great war event, and since then they've gone from zero working Andrew Barclays to two working Andrew Barclays, so I really need to drop in at some point to get some mileage behind Horden and Stanley.

Truly honest question, but how would I go about getting a job like yours? I have always loved steam trains but we don't preserve them the same way here in Canada 🙁 It's my dream to drive them and care for them. Love your work and all your videos
