  • A VERY brief tutorial on how to enter On-Board-Programming mode by keycode entry and then how to program any R-Net controlled electric wheelchair (e.g. Permobil) using this method.
    I've attached download links for the user manual PDF's below if you want to read up about each setting in detail, otherwise I recommend visiting the forum called 'WheelchairDriver' for more information, help, or advice.

    Thank you for posting this Joab.
    I’m a little late, 3 years lol.
    I’m new to being in a wheelchair just over a year now.
    I don’t have insurance that covers these medical devices so I have to buy everything used for the time being.
    I recently bought a Permobil F5 2018 model that has the higher grade motors on it for 7.5 mph. I bought it for that reason so I could go out with my wife as she jogged also Dan from totally normal recommended it through his videos. (Great guy Dan is, he help me live life again with his videos)
    I spoke to a few dealers about getting it programmed from
    6 mph to the 7.5 mph and they want some ridiculous amount of money and some of them want to install additional parts, all that I can’t afford.
    I feel like they’re taking me for a ride, no pun intended.
    I just ran across your post and I was wondering if you knew if this procedure worked on the F5 year 2018 model to program the higher speed ?
    I don’t have the standup version chair just the sitting version.
    I wanted to ask this question first before trying it and possibly messing up the stock program by trying to get into it which, I’m sure would end up costing me more or put me without a chair.
    I really feel like the dealers know they’ve got some of us by the balls and if we want something we’re going to pay for it through the nose.
    Thanks you again Joab.

      Hi Jay,
      Firstly I'm really sorry that I'm so late in replying to you but I had no idea that RUclips had held all the comments for review for some reason so only just found a whole heap of them by chance now.
      Anyway that must be such a pain having to personally purchase all your equipment that need and particularly too if you're only new to using a wheelchair on top of that! We're very fortunate here in Australia that the government pays for our equipment if it's considered "fair and reasonable".
      To answer your question though about the speed on your Permobil F5, I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to increase it if you already have the higher grade motors on it. There's the possibility that it might need to be adjusted using the R-Net PC Programmer software rather than just using the on-board programming, but with access to a programming dongle, it would only take someone about 2 minutes to make the adjustment for you. So it's definitely not a hard task and wouldn't require any further hardware.
      I personally think it's such a shame that even finding information on how to make changes to the programming on your own wheelchair is so incredibly hard to find! For cars you're free to change any setting you wish but when it comes to wheelchairs, all the manuals and software are so heavily restricted that you have to really search hard to even know they're available to you.
      Anyway, all the best and if I can help you any further then just let me know.
      Cheers,
      Joab

      As explained in the video, on-board programming by keycode is disabled on many chairs. You will need someone with a dongle to enable it on your chair.

    • @Joablo
      @Joablo  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Jordan,
      Sorry for my late reply, but yes I'm afraid it's only enabled by default on some wheelchairs. I've found it enabled on the odd chair, but for the most part, I'd guess that the majority don't have 'on-board programming by keycode' enabled by default, unless you're just lucky!
      But as such you'll need to connect a programming dongle to your chair to get that feature enabled. Once it is enabled though, then if you follow that keycode sequence, then you'll no longer need to have the programming dongle connected to enter on-board programming mode, and you can program your chair on-the-fly.
      Personally I'd maybe try contacting a wheelchair dealer in your local area and see if you could pay a service fee to have them change that programming setting for you? As long as it's not the same dealer who services your chair, you might find one that's accommodating to do the job and it wouldn't take them more than a minute or so to do.
      All the best, Joab :)

    Hi Joab, The OBP mode PDF the illustration shows the Dongle hooked up to the joystick as well as a power supply ..any idea what kind of power supply would that be?

    • @Joablo
      @Joablo  6 лет назад +3

      Hey Bruce, I just looked up the diagram image so I could see what you were talking about, and the diagram looks a bit misleading now you've pointed it out. As in reality, you simply just connect the dongle to the joystick 'in-line' or in between the joystick and the wheelchair's OWN power supply.
      That illustration makes it look as though you're connecting the programming dongle completely separately to the chair using a separate power supply, however that's not the case. i.e. On one end of the programming dongle, there's a plug and on the other end is a socket. So to connect it between the two, the cable that normally goes direct to the joystick now goes into the socket end of the dongle, and the dongle's plug end is connected back to the joystick. So now the dongle is simply between the joystick and R-Net modules.
      If that doesn't make enough sense though, then just let me know and I'll take a few photos of it in place or draw a quick diagram to help. Admittedly I just didn't think to add that part to my tutorial video at the time...
      Cheers, Joab :)

      I'm so sorry but I never got any notifications about new comments so I'm only finding these now... But to answer your question, then the only way it can be unlocked is by plugging in a programming dongle and using the PC software to change it. There might be a local wheelchair dealer or builder that could do it for you as it would literally take them about 1 or 2 minutes at most. Otherwise you might be able to find someone who lives not too far from you and is willing to help you by asking on the wheelchair driver forum that I've linked to in the video description. Is the anterior tit function locked out by permobil on the f3 & f5 chairs? I was told by someone that if you khw the "codes" it can be unlocked to use anterior tilt function. My chair does tilt & recline & has seat elevator & power legs. I just need the anterior tilt function, is it possible to unlock this ability? Or does it require actual physical parts?

    • @Joablo
      @Joablo  2 года назад +1

      To be dead honest with you... I haven't got a clue! I tried to find out for you but even if you did already have seat tilt, recline, elevation and powered legs... Then it looks like you would still need another actuator to tilt just the seat forwards. I can't say for certain that's the case without connecting it to a computer to see the list of actuators available, but my best guess is that it does still need another part.
      All the best!

    Hi Joab, I am struggling to fix Sunrise Grove medical chair for a disabled person in Pakistan where no help or support is avialable for such electric wheel chairs - the wheel chair power lights keep flashing and chair does not move..
    Controller was checked by a professional Electronic Eng. and is suspecting an issue with Microcontroller programming (otherwise all circuts are operational and giving required voltage on all outputs)
    Kindly advice how to reset / restore microcontroler programming
    It would be great help.. thanks

    • @Joablo
      @Joablo  2 года назад

      Hey there,
      I'm afraid there isn't really any way to "reset" one that I'm aware of. You could connect a programmer to it and then create a new template to write to it, but if the power module or joystick is dead, then it won't be of much use. I can send you a copy of the R-Net technical manual if it's any help to you? It doesn't mention any reset but it does list the trouble and fault codes. All the best!

      I'm so sorry but I never got any notifications from RUclips about any of these new comments so I'm only finding them now...
      But to answer your question 3 years too late though, the R-Net dongle will work on any R-Net joystick so assuming your Permobil has that then there shouldn't be any problems. So I'm not sure if there's a loose wire somewhere or if your programmer is faulty, but I do know that the HH DTT is the older model compared to their dongle so maybe see if you can find a local wheelchair dealer or builder who can enable "on-board programming by keycode entry" for you so then you can at least make basic changes without a programmer even needing to be plugged in. All the best!

      What are you wanting to program in your R-net?

    • @Joablo
      @Joablo  2 года назад

      Sorry but I've only just seen this now... Anyway when you say LCD display, do you mean the R-Net Omni2? If you do then just follow these steps:
      - Hold down the Profile button and then hold down the On/Off button until there is a short beep. (Note the normal power-up sound will sound prior to this beep.)
      - Release the Profile button, but continue to hold down the On/Off Button until there are two further short beeps.
      - Release the On/Off button, there will be a longer beep and OBP Mode will be entered.
      After the sequence has been performed and while the system remains switched on, the Mode button can be used to sequence through all system modes and to return to OBP Mode. If there is no OBP activity for 5 minutes or you turn it off, then the keypad sequence will need to be performed again.

      it depends on if your controller is already enabled for "OBP by keycode entry" or not. And if it's not then you'll need to have that feature enabled using a dongle to then be able to enter programming mode without the need to have one plugged in.

      Oh I should have mentioned that! I've just got a toggle power switch and a speed control knob at the bottom of my joystick that's all. I was always bumping the top power button on & off each time when I was getting in and out of it, so in the end I just disabled it. But the same method applies to either way and it doesn't matter which power button you use.
      Cheers
