Probably the first person I’ve ever seen in an interview who showed so many of their set backs and was also so critical of them. Quite impressed with his honesty, humility and self-awareness regardless of hindsight or not. Many never realize it at all and seems to have molded him into a great leader which the rest of the interview certainly highlighted. Fantastic story!

The best 5 hours I’ve ever spent on you tube for sure! My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Jason at our friends the Haas’ house a couple years ago. We had no idea of his history and never would have guessed it given the very humble and easy going conversation. He and his wife were chatting with me about raising our teenagers and the challenges of parenting. Only later did I come to learn who this incredible human is and all he’d experienced. Recently our 18 year old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor and now has epilepsy as a result. Our world has been turned upside down in an instant and the most precious gift she’s received through this harrowing journey is a copy of the poster Jason put on his hospital room door. Scott and Carol Haas have supported her more than they could ever know by giving her that gift which sits on her bedroom wall for daily inspiration! Thank you Jason, from the wife of a Marine and mama of a warrior beyond measure, you have no idea how much your story of strength and resilience keeps us all going!

I’m blown away at how deeply this has touched me, at a dark time. Which in hindsight is nothing compared to this man, this fucking hero! Well put, I am a civilian that over that last few years has come to really appreciate our military through the many veteran friends that I have. I find myself tearing up at the national anthem during sporting events now thinking of our brave men and women fighting for our country and not being appreciated. I also have developed a deep respect for our local military, our police forces, that in many face the same trials and challenges with much less training. Jason Redman is a great man in my book. Cheers to you brother and thanks to Shawn for shedding some light on this.

Then on top of that half the population doesn’t believe in what they/we were fighting for. Seems to be more of a lack of appreciation for veterans now more than ever because of everyone having growing distrust for the government. Thanks for your appreciation and support brother.

I started drinking to self medicate at a very young age it was the only way I could get to sleep without having nightmares every night but it meant literally drinking myself to sleep every night. I somehow managed to take care of most of my responsibilities but any time I had to myself involved drinking like it was a sport. Drinking ended up becoming a chore it literally became a chore to drink as much beer as I needed in order to get and stay drunk, I know a lot of you will say why didn’t I just drink liquor well I did that for years and almost killed myself on multiple occasions. I ended up getting to the point after decades that I just didn’t want to do it anymore so I stopped. That was almost 6 years ago and I’m thankful I haven’t looked back now I can have drinks in the fridge for the family without it bothering me I’ve even gone to a couple bars with family on special outings/ vacations and not only did I not drink but I didn’t even feel like it.
Quitting drinking was the best thing I ever did and now that I’m sober I can’t even fathom how I allowed myself to be drunk all the time and not on my best at all times.
I got in a fight once after drinking a 30pk all day and I didn’t exactly lose but I didn’t win and it should have been an easy win but I was highly inebriated and it became obvious to me that I couldn’t just expect to have the same physical abilities when I’m drunk as I do sober.

But recently I made a mistake at work and I felt an instant inclination to hide it, to shift blame. I think it’s somewhat natural, but it shamed me that the thought would even cross my mind. One thing that everyone should take from this is to be honest. Even with all of his mistakes, Redman still appears heroic when compared to the average person who refuses to own up to their own shortcomings or mistakes.

So many lessons learned from this conversation. As a retired USN aircraft mechanic, it's humbling to listen to all of the obstacles (some self-induced) he endured and conquered after finally holding himself accountable. This was an intense interview, thank you both for shedding a light on what veterans experience, both during and after the military, the good, the bad and the ugly.

I was glued to the screen watching this interview and by far was fantastic and overwhelmed with emotions to hear how JR went thru the controversies in the teams and was besting himself up mentally, but he got off that high horse and overcame those barriers and obstacles in his life...and he is living proof that no matter what happens and how life throws a curve at you...face it head on regardless of the outcome...it's your attitude that will affect the way your life will lead...Shawn Ryan thank you brother for this segment of your show..much love!!!! Be safe...

Fun fact, during good sleep with multiple cycle repetitions, the brain literally shrinks with reduced blood flow so the spinal fluid can flow in and wash out the ventricles of the brain including the toxins build up. If sleep isnt good enough where you go through good cycles to wash the brain out, then plaque builds up and causes long term ill effects if it gets bad enough. And thats just the brain portion, not including hormone balancing. Sleep is absolutely vital for *long term* health
