    7:43 Before puberty, I was a malnourished little scrawny kid. Then, during puberty, my thighs started to grow and I started to get stretch marks. Now, I have awesome thunder thighs, and lots of stretch marks. I get stretch marks fairly easily, but they aren't a bad thing. I love my thunder thighs, they make me feel healthy and not a skinny scrawny kid anymore. I had to stop wearing skinny jeans though, which was all I was able to fit in before puberty. But other than that, stretch marks are cool, and be proud of them. At least for me they're cool.

      oh wow, same here! I was so underweight I wasn’t even on the doctor’s bmi chart (not intentional, it just runs in the family and also my meds reduced appetite) until a few years after puberty and now I have stretch marks to show that I’ve gotten up to a healthy weight :]

    I recently watched a documentary about Audre Lorde‘s years in Berlin (called the Berlin Years) and there‘s this moment where she‘s at a party with friends and they dance together and they‘re all just vibing and having a good time ✨ I think about that moment a lot because like zai_rambles said at 1:55 it‘s kind of easy to just see the suffering and fighting all the time and lose sight of what we are fighting for. just the fact that in the 80s/90s there were people discussing racism and queerness and intersectionality like Audre Lorde did- and at the same time having just cute lesbian gatherings with homemade food and dancing arghhh it‘s so wholesome. the documentary used to be on youtube but I can’t find it anymore 😞

    7:48 Something I would add to this is that restrictions of commercial advertisement to children up to the age of 12 _do not_ go far enough! By the time we're 12-14, the dopaminergic functions in the brain are already fully online and functioning. However, the pre-frontal cortex (responsible for many of the functions of impulse control, emotional regulation, long term decision making and investing in or delaying rewards,) takes nearly 25 years to finish developing. What's this mean? It means kids can become addicted to things like gambling, before they ever have a reasonable chance to comprehend the hows, whys, or consequences. A 12 year old could be an addict, but they could not be a rational agent in informed consumer decisions.
    It's no wonder Pokemon popped off with adolescent demographics, right? If you were like me growing up, you may have collected pokemon cards, regardless of whether or not you understood or even liked the card game aspect.. and that's not a mistake; that's a result of marketing to children, specifically to hook them on collecting things from random chance gambling mechanics like trading card 'booster' packs. Nothing boosts dopamine like, "maybe," and a goal to chase. See also: video games.

    the only thing wrong with GM crops is that generally they are patented by mega corporations. the crops themselves are fine, it's the business practices surrounding them that are the problem. (that and they encourage monoculture farming which is terrible for biodiversity)

    • @monstrousmoss
      @monstrousmoss 2 года назад +1

      yeah! stuff like golden rice can actually be extremely healthy (which isn’t really tied to body size anyway), it’s just that big corporations often deliberately allow their patented-genome plants to crossbreed with smaller farms nearby so that they can sue them out of business

    • @asanyr9902
      @asanyr9902 2 года назад

      I disagree! As an indigenous person, GM seeds and crops are a huge threat to us and our food sovereignty. Also, GMO seeds grow faster and produce higher crop yields, which sounds good, but this means they outcompete non-modified seeds which means farmers will only plant GM seeds, which severely reduce biodiversity. For many seeds the GM features do not pass down to any seeds harvested from the plants, or are just completely sterile. Commodity seeds/GM seeds leave no room for the rich history and sacred nature our seeds and crops have in indigenous communities, and undo hundreds of years of cultivation and adaptation our seeds have gone through throughout the generations. Indigenous people and farmers are never included in the discussion of the ethics of genetic modification and its exhausting

    No idea why being against self diagnosis makes someone homophobic/racist/bigoted. I’m queer, but admittedly I am not a person of color. I’m against self diagnosis because of my own experience with it along with the fact that a diagnosis is meant to help get the right treatment. It is not meant to just be a label. I’ve seen a lot of people self diagnose a disorder I have that is very difficult to diagnose in the first place, only to fetishize it and play into bad stereotypes.
    Edit: I am open to learning, I am simply speaking from personal experience and understanding.

    • @cozie-mango
      @cozie-mango 2 года назад

      The reason why being against it is racist and all of the other reason, i personally use tone-deaf especially coming from non-black/non-poc or amab people is because many of us don’t have the resources to actively get an diagnosis not only is the waiting list long, but it’s also really expensive. And for someone to be against because they don’t want people to “fake” a disorder or “take” resources we just look in disbelief because people who fake disorders most likely have one and need help and you can’t really take resources that aren’t already there. And people who do fake disorders are rare to come by.
      Not to mention women especially women of color fly under radar a lot of the time or get misdiagnosed with mood disorders or personality disorders which isn’t bad if they did actually have one.

    • @cozie-mango
      @cozie-mango 2 года назад

      And finally a lot of the time getting an official diagnosis can cause people to lose their job, if they want to adopt kids in the future (a lot of states have actually made it hard for disabled people to adopt), or if they want custody of their child, etc etc
      Also if you have been on the internet for the past 2 years you would also have seen that cops really don’t like black/brown autistic people and will shoot us for “resisting”, so yeah….

    • @cozie-mango
      @cozie-mango 2 года назад +6

      Plus people don’t usually just look at a tiktok and or piece of media and say “oh ig i’m autistic now”, it’s usually researching and coming to the conclusion or they might look at a piece of media and relate and then realize slowly through research that they might be autistic or might suspect they have a disorder. Not just the first option.
      Also people who do self-diagnosis, me as an example are going for an official diagnosis, and some might not but people have reasons or they might not and it’s okay.
      If something helps you learn about yourself and helps your overall mental health then go for it.

    • @arandomcatheehee
      @arandomcatheehee 2 года назад +2

      @@cozie-mango I agree with that mindset, but I have seen a lot of people recently treating disorders like quirky personality traits rather than something to work on. I did plenty of research on DID/OSDD, and genuinely thought that was what I had. It in fact, was not. I have a disorder that does have overlapping symptoms.

    • @cozie-mango
      @cozie-mango 2 года назад +5

      @@arandomcatheehee It’s not so much a mindset as it true, but if that really bothers you that someone might be out there trying to self diagnose themselves with DID/OSDD or any complex personality disorder in that cluster you do you. But don’t completely write off self diagnosis as a means of diagnosing just because of that there are nuances to everything and to just sum up self diagnosing to people treating their disorder as a personality or to be “quirky” there’s conversations that need be had on why you feel that or just further research on your end.
      And for some people treating disorders like a personality (i’m ignoring the “quirky” part since i already discussed like just now) maybe it’s because they have just been diagnosed or they finally realized why they were struggling all these years and finally feel free to express themselves. It’s like when people both outside and inside (😐) the LGBTQ+ community say being gay is not a personality trait, and it’s like okay let people be people they didn’t know they were gay or even had knowledge and language to express how they felt throughout the years.
      Anyways i’m done responding especially if you’re not willing to make a change in your mindset and see things from different angles.
      So peace.

    • @someoldytaccount
      @someoldytaccount 2 года назад +4

      It's a difficult one. When unpacking this idea, you have to recognise the emotional mindset people are in when seeking out "happier" content. It's escapism for them from the atrocities and bore of life. The issue in this that's related to race is the historical context of escapism. It was initially "leisure time" for the white aristocratic societies, which directly refers to the class and racial divides in society, and further insinuates an inability or inappropriateness of non-white people trying to reach this level of content in life, let alone associate with ideas of peace. Because the social construct of class was manufactured to cause constant suffering to those "less fortunate", seeking experiences that were never traditionally allowed of them (literally were banned) directly disrupts the functioning of the classes and what is allocated for them to participate in. And so, with all of its historical context, those viewed to be of a lower social standing are still blatantly excluded from certain experiences that were never awarded to "their kind" in the past. Therefore, correlating happiness with a content for one's life, you can see why we still relegate all that is harsh in this world to the stereotypical experience of non-white people. The idea being, "why should they be happy when we built a system that is meant to directly oppress them into sufferable positions and experiences?"
      Just my deconstruction :)
